As is usually noted, a lot of patience and understanding are usually accorded to white people who prefer not to follow the rules, no matter how easy those rules are to follow.

I like it when you don’t even have to raise your voice —they defer to you. I’m amazed as silver “daddy” type how well I get treated in lots of different social or customer situations, in all parts of Manhattan. Even when I know I don’t deserve it.
