LGBTQ+ Americans consider move to Canada to escape Trump: ‘I’m afraid of living here’
by Anonymous | reply 71 | September 10, 2025 4:23 PM |
It's hardly gotten to the point that gays are being fired from jobs, pushed into ghettos, and shuttled off to work camps. Dump is assaulting and going after all kinds of people. I frankly don't see much of an assault on LGBTQ people.

From the article:
"Since returning to office this year, Trump has carried out an unprecedented assault on the community: announcing that the US would only recognise two genders; targeting diversity, equity and inclusion measures; and signing executive orders that sought to exclude transgender people from the US military, limit their access to sport, and curtail gender-transition procedures for people under 19.:
Isn't that the position of a lot of gay Dataloungers who bang on, on a daily basis here, about trans people?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 8, 2025 3:35 AM |
R1 I always say and find it quite puzzling that gay people are the one group Trump has never publicly disparaged. I’m not defending him now but this man has talked shit about black people, women, Muslims, Mexicans, handicap. The right wing nutso chamber has said that Obama used to be a gay hustler and would smoke crack with elder gay pimps. Remember that old loon, Fox News paraded. I hate to even repeat it but it’s just yall. DL can handle it and doesn’t easily believe propaganda. Trump has never even brought that up. I think it has something to do with the man who influenced him the most outside his own dad, Roy Cohn. As he gets older approaching the end of his own life, he feels guilty.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 8, 2025 3:42 AM |
R2 Didn’t you know Trans are the current face of gay rights, despite the fact that many trans still are attracted to the opposite of their cisgender.

R5 yeah true good point. It’s just that the GOP hates gay rights and gay activism and it would be such an easy wedge issue for Trump to bring up in some way, with his own ignorant insults in the form of jokes, or exploit the story of some neurotic gay who did something egregious. You know how he does. He has never bashed LGB and it is just mind boggling to me. Perhaps there are way more closeted Mos in the Republican like many of you state all the time 😂.

Not most but some of them are. Trans are less than 1% of the population yet have hijacked the gay rights movement. It’s fucking annoying. You can’t really blame the trans themselves. I blame the media particularly gay media.

R6, Canada has higher taxes than the U.S., yes, but so does Europe & Scandinavia and most of the Western world. The higher taxes help fund a better social safety net and publicly-funded health care system. The U.S. is the outlier.

R12 Your comment cuts both ways and I have mixed feelings about it. History does seem to repeat itself but also it seems offensive for what the Jews eventually went through in their UNdemocratic society. Also you really could just say what the Nazis did to gays, making the same argument. And I’d still have the same mixed feelings about it 🤷♂️.

No. If someone from the US wants to become a Canadian citizen they should come thru normal immigration channels and be able to contribute to society.
Canada has lots of space, yes, but, our resources are strained and there's already a shortage of housing. The very last thing this country needs is more fake refugees - there are enough real refugees whose lives are in danger that we need to help. Everyone and anyone who seeks asylum from the US should be deported.

R2, time and time again, whenever there’s an article claiming bad things happening to LGBTQ+, almost all the examples in the articles are just about trans. You read the headline and think, oh no, gay men are losing their rights, and then you see it’s actually just another bathroom or women’s sports action, which obviously, many people on DL actually agree with.
In the Guardian article, there are two specific cases cited, one for a “non-binary”, and another for a trans. About the trans, here is their concern, and fyi, this is nothing even close to what happened to Jews in Nazi Germany:
[quote] The last point, in particular, has left Ansari preparing to show that there is no other US state in which her client could be safe. “If she goes into a federal building, she cannot pee in the right bathroom,” she said. “If she’s locked up in a federal institution, where are they going to lock her up? Are they going to lock her up in the male institution? Are they going to provide her with gender-affirming care?”

Of course the trans want to leave. They are the ones being stigmatized and their rights ripped away. Behind the scenes, however, Trump and the GOP are ripping away funding for gay issues—hotline, science research, AIDS care and pushing an end to gay marriage. Don’t thing you’re not next to be publically shamed
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 8, 2025 11:26 PM |
I watched in real time how the GOP settled on trans to politicize.
About the last midterms. DeSantis’ communications director tweeted something about Gays being pedophiles. It was around when DeSantis was pushing his Don’t Say Gay bill. The typical bots kept pushing the “Gays are pedos” line. They were also testing the “Draq Queens are groomers” BS. When “Gays are Pedos” fell flat, they went with the Drag queens are groomers and the GOP was routed in the midterms. They didn’t gain anywhere near the number of seats the opposition party usually gets.
For the presidential campaign, however, the complete dropped both Gays are Pedos and Drag Queens are groomers and shifted to Trans are hurting your kids. (Note, all of these are about kids, something time tested to work constantly)
That’s struck a nerve because few people know trans folks and are suspicious of them. Everyone was still baffled by the whole choose a pronoun, cis vs trans business, and pregnant people language
So, like clockwork, they vilified a minority. We’ve seen this happen over and over again throughout history
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 8, 2025 11:35 PM |
R41 you're so full of shit!
First of all, Democrats are the ones enforcing trans/nonbinary ideology and continue to double down on that issue. They're the ones who turned LGB into LGBTQ+, so that the average person now believes that gays and trans are one and the same. Go to GLAAD's website (or any other formerly gay organization) and you'll see that it's become all about trans/nonbinaries.
Secondly, trans/nonbinaries don't just "want to live their lives." Emboldened by the Democrats, they have become obnoxious drama queens trying to infringe on women's rights and spaces.
During the Biden administration, people were seriously being cited/canceled for misgendering trans/nonbinaries.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 9, 2025 4:08 AM |

Vito Russo would like a word with some of you.
[quote] If I'm dying from anything -- I'm dying from the fact that not enough rich, white, heterosexual men have gotten AIDS for anybody to give a shit. You know, living with AIDS in this country is like living in the twilight zone. Living with AIDS is like living through a war which is happening only for those people who happen to be in the trenches. Every time a shell explodes, you look around and you discover that you've lost more of your friends, but nobody else notices. It isn't happening to them. They're walking the streets as though we weren't living through some sort of nightmare. And only you can hear the screams of the people who are dying and their cries for help. No one else seems to be noticing.
[quote]And it's worse than a war, because during a war people are united in a shared experience. This war has not united us, it's divided us. It's separated those of us with AIDS and those of us who fight for people with AIDS from the rest of the population.
[quote]Two and a half years ago, I picked up Life Magazine, and I read an editorial which said, "it's time to pay attention, because this disease is now beginning to strike the rest of us." It was as if I wasn't the one holding the magazine in my hand. And since then, nothing has changed to alter the perception that AIDS is not happening to the real people in this country.
[quote]It's not happening to us in the United States, it's happening to them -- to the disposable populations of fags and junkies who deserve what they get. The media tells them that they don't have to care, because the people who really matter are not in danger. Twice, three times, four times -- The New York Times has published editorials saying, don't panic yet, over AIDS -- it still hasn't entered the general population, and until it does, we don't have to give a shit.
[quote{And the days, and the months, and the years pass by, and they don't spend those days and nights and months and years trying to figure out how to get hold of the latest experimental drug, and which dose to take it at, and in what combination with other drugs, and from what source? And, how are you going to pay for it? And where are you going to get it? Because it isn't happening to them, so they don't give a shit.
Nothing makes me despair more than when we fight each other rather than the actual enemy.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 9, 2025 11:59 AM |

That, and I saw a thing from his nominee for CDC director that was talking about selling organs. We’re in a Michael Crichton novel, or one of Michael Douglas’ forgotten roles in the film adaptation of same.
I would love to say the idea of being rounded up and having my organs harvested was a conspiracy theory, but it doesn’t seem that far fetched now. They want registries of trans people, of people with autism…

Not all queer people want the same thing. If you don’t care about marriage, having children and moving to states that might not be 100% blue then you’re probably going to be OK. It’s the age-old battle about who gets to define what “gay” is. I hate how rigid we have to be. And that goes to both extremes. I got shit on for being heteronormative when I got married, I got shit on for not being heteronormative when my soon-to-be-ex-husband and I kept our relationship on life support by being open.
All the stuff about pronouns and all of that…it’s just kids trying to figure themselves out. We all did it. We all tried on different costumes to see what fit. But for some people, unless you look exactly like they do, it doesn’t matter.
