Trump Administration Drops Biden Plan for Flight Delay Compensation
The Trump administration said it will drop a Biden-era plan to require airlines to compensate passengers and cover their expenses for lengthy delays or cancellations caused by carriers, a setback for aviation consumer protections.
The proposed federal rule, which the Biden administration announced in 2023, would guarantee passengers $200 to $775 in compensation as well as free meals, lodging and rebookings in cases where U.S. flight disruptions were caused by circumstances under airlines’ control, such as a mechanical issue or a system outage.
The proposal was opened for public comment last year, though there was no timeline for it to take effect. President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Pete Buttigieg, his transportation secretary, promoted it as a game changer for travelers.
“When an airline causes a flight cancellation or delay, passengers should not foot the bill,” Mr. Buttigieg said in May 2023.

Pretty soon, no one will be able to afford to fly anyway.
Especially after Spirit goes under.

This is the absolutely the type of thing the democrats should obsess over. Not freeing some maniac who continuously assaults people and then gets the rough end of a fight and dies.
This goes across political lines. We’ve become more polarized politically sure. White people increasingly think they are getting the short end of the stick as it pertains to life and are more likely to blame Dems, but most people aren’t ideological. They just want cheap groceries, be able to pay their rent, and maybe take a vacation out of the year. Why should we have to pay for expenses the airline caused. This would be so unpopular to middle America. But they have to know that Trump is doing it first and that democrats are the ones who created the protection that Trump is now eliminating. It’s not even a protection, it’s compensation for a problem the airline caused. This has nothing to do with a natural disaster or weather.
