Death Becomes Her (1992)
I watched Death Becomes Her for the first time last night. Such a fun film to watch in anticipation for autumn and Halloween.
The leading foursome are great; Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, Bruce Willis, and Isabella Rossellini.
Favorite quotes? Scenes? Who do you think is the weakest link?

Everyone is still waiting for the infamous Tracey Ullman cut. The film was basically redone when they decided to go for the darker ending. Many of the original’s cut’s scenes are in the early trailers.

R2 really? Why did they change it? Did Ullman get paid?

In my top ten all time favourite movies. I adore it. Everyone is excellent...even Ian Ogilvy is a camp surprise. Its just great fun.

I remember it as being a critical and financial disappointment when it came out and, not being a fan of any of the four leads, never saw it.

R3, the original ending had Mad and Hel, still looking young and beautiful, but bored and empty, observing Ernest and his wife, played by Ullman, having a picnic in Switzerland, old but fulfilled and still in love. Mad and Hel make snide comments about them, but we realize that they are envious of them and regret their choices.
Test audiences hated this ending, forcing the studio to demand rewrites and shoot a new ending.

R3 Of course she got paid. What a dumb question.

R6 How do you not like Isabella Rossellini?!

The scene where Goldie Hawn keeps pressing 'rewind/play' watching Meryl Streep getting murdered, smiling and eating frosting from a can while they carry her away is the very essence of Datalounge.

The ending is fun but also inconsistent. In the beginning, Madeline falls down the stairs and is so pliable that her head twists around backwards. At the end, she’s so brittle that she falls down the stairs and shatters.

Is it, R16? Decades have passed. Think how many other times they've been pasted back together, reconstructed, God knows what.

I remember seeing it when it originally came out and liking it but also left the cinema thinking, "that was cute but felt like an overly long episode of Tales From The Crypt".

I love the look Isabella Rossellini gives Meryl when she Meryl guesses her age as 38

R16, the first time Madeline fell down the stairs, she was still alive and had muscles, tissue, skeleton, and blood coursing through her veins. The next time we see her fall, she's been dead for several years, so she's an empty vessel. All her insides have rotted away and all that's left is husk and her immortal soul.

They look awful at the end

R21 plus, Madeline and Helen had been using spray paint on each other to look alive instead of pale, which I'm sure hardened their dead bodies.

This movie was available to watch on a flight I caught last week. Like current day Bruce Willis is has not aged well.

Sidney Pollack's scene as the doctor is by far the funniest part of the movie. That's a problem.

R24 so annoying when people say things like that and then don't elaborate to make their case.
