Eldergay Makes his first Feature Film
FAIRYLAND
[quote]Fairyland is a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of San Francisco’s vibrant cultural scene in the 1970s and ’80s. This captivating film chronicles a father and daughter relationship as it evolves through an era of bohemian decadence to the sober and heartbreaking era of the AIDS crisis. Starring Emilia Jones (CODA), Scoot McNairy (A Complete Unknown), Cody Fern (“American Horror Story”), Maria Bakalova (The Apprentice), Bella Murphy (Coming 2 America), with Adam Lambert (“Glee”), and Geena Davis (Thelma & Louise) and introducing Nessa Dougherty. The film is written, produced, and directed by Andrew Durham.
It looks kind of lovely. The director's only prior credits were two short films from the 90s that he directed and being a production coordinator on several projects in the 90s. Wonder what his story is!

Looks like it could be good, but I don't think I want to relive the horror of the AIDS crisis again. What a terrible, scary, sad time in SF that was, and you just know things aren't going to end well for dad in the movie.

I haven't read the memoir the film is adapted from, but, judging from the trailer, the AIDS crisis is not the primary story here, but, I can understand the sentiment of not wanting to relive the experience, R1.

Thanks for the notice, OP. The title seemed familiar, and indeed it premiered in January 2023 at Sundance and is just now getting released. In 2013, American Zoetrope announced it had secured "the screen rights for Alysia Abbott's memoir Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father, and that Sofia Coppola would adapt the book with Andrew Durham."

A long history in being made, but maybe it's good.

Funny to me that Adam Lambert’s listed reference is Glee.

The memoir is superb—loving, gripping, and evocative.
