It's gotten quite stale.
Gen X is now 60. Millennials are now 40. Gen Z is 20. And none of us get along and we're not making the country better. And it has absolutely nothing to do with Boomers.

Boomers are still the problem. Look at congress and their refusal to retire even when they have the funds to do so.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 6, 2025 9:54 AM |
R1: are they the problem though? Because a lot of what I see coming down the pipeline isn't any better.

Generations have a 15 year spread which makes these kind of conversations pointless. I wish people would shut the fuck up about it. You may as well talk about astrology.

At a certain point, it starts to feel like beating up on old people rather than taking agency for our own actions or lack thereof.

R1: There's an entire subreddit on Reddit dedicated to Boomers. /BoomersBeingFools.
At least 75% of the posts on there are not Boomers.

All of it. The Boomer Blame Game, the Let's Shit on Gen Z tiresomeness, the 'Actually it's Gen X who really sucks because they voted for Trump 3% more than the Boomers did", etc etc etc etc.
Fuck all of it.

People here shit on Gen Z and millennials more than Boomers
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 6, 2025 11:25 AM |
Generating fake generational outrage is profitable, the end.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 6, 2025 11:27 AM |
R7: Oh they've been shitting on us millennials here for decades now! And they were all so extremely gleeful about it, too. Gen Z hasn't even experienced 1/100th of it yet.
I still think the Boomer Blame Game needs to end.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 6, 2025 11:30 AM |
Looks to me like the shitting on millennials (which was a primary feature of Datalounge back in the late 2000s and early 2010s) has simmered down simply because the millennials themselves are sliding up toward middle age now, and there's an entirely new crop of younger people to ridicule.
Except it comes across kind of pathetic now when it's 62 year olds sneering at 22 year olds, vs how it was then (47 year olds sneering at 22 year olds).

R10, that's where we come in handy.

Many people think Millennials were born around 2000. So they’ve been catching a double dose of shit aimed at both 40 and 20 year olds.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 6, 2025 11:45 AM |
R12, we're used to it. ;) We have a thicker skin than we sometimes get credit for and we can throw down, too.

Why hasn’t GenX changed anything?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 6, 2025 11:49 AM |
I continue to think that these "generations" are just a game. Sure there are trends within an age group, but the only generation that has meaning as a social phenomenon is the (early) Baby Boomers, because of the changes in society that they experienced (tv, 60s, yuppiedom), and earlier and later generations cohere only in juxtaposition to them. These generalizations about "Gen Z" and whatever are just silly attempts to understand societal trends.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 6, 2025 11:54 AM |
R15 oh yes. The Baby Boomers. So very super super special.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 6, 2025 11:56 AM |
Agreed, R15. And a word about GenX, remember most of us GenX cohort came of age and formed our worldviews during the 12 long years of ReaganBush.
Sadly the same will be true for today's teens/teens/early 20somethings and the Trump era. If you are age 16 today, you can get your license and drive a car, and you'll be able to vote pretty soon, but you have no real memory of the Obama years.

R14: Gen X is usually the one stirring the pot. They love to point fingers. But when somebody criticizes them? OH MY GOD. The world must absolutely stop. They've been offended.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 6, 2025 12:44 PM |
I’m getting a little tired of the Generational blaming. Yes there are some broad patterns, characteristics and trends - but it’s a flat way of describing demographics. Ignores the many people who sit on cusps as well as differences in region, ethnicity, religion, economic background, education, immigration generation, and the hundreds of other ways of living and growing up in America
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 6, 2025 12:58 PM |
But R18 is not stirring said pot at all.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 6, 2025 1:11 PM |
R16, I wasn't saying the Boomers are super special, I said they've been treated that way because of the cultural changes that shaped them—and the other "generations" were invented to cast them in relief.

Do they have participation trophies for that?

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
