I went to the eye doctor today for my annual checkup and was told I have early-stage cataracts.
The first thing out of my mouth was that's for old people. The doctor laughed and said that everyone eventually gets them and that it won't be a problem for me for a few more years. WTF? What's next, hip and knee replacements?
My young, fresh, and dewy days are slowly slipping away. Comfort me, DL.

OP sometimes cataracts develop earlier than the average because people don't protect their eyes from the sun or bright lights. The surgery is a piece of cake. No worries.

Not everyone gets cataracts. Your doctor is wrong.

Here you go. Twice a day.
2% N-Acetyl-L-carnosine
You're welcome.

Just smear blended gerbil juice over your eyeballs, OP—it’s the correct and proven treatment.

Wear a darker caftan so the sun's reflection does not speed up the development of your cataracts. Or just give up and get a guide dog.

I was told the same thing and that I could wait. It's been about 5 years since that diagnosis and my vision hasn't changed since then. If the doc told you surgery could wait, then relax.
I hate wearing sunglasses and have never worn them in my life. Oh well.

Why are you recommending pet medication to me R5? That is not comforting.

He may have said that to make me feel better, but a quick Google search shows that it's very likely.

Well, I never.

OP, I love telling people all about my cataract surgery, because it was so easy, and I was back at work the next day! You will be fine--just follow your doctor's orders pre- and post-surgery (keeping eyelids clean and using the Rx eyedrops).
I was 51 when I developed my cataract (just one--maybe it was my best friend's frisbee that hit me in grade school, who the hell knows), and I was almost blind in that eye within a year.
Now I'm mid-50s and my eyesight is perfect but cancer came knocking, just a few little door taps.
You will be all right, OP! 🙏🤛

I’d condole you, OP, but I am too young and hot to be fussed about such things.

Well maybe do some research, r9 ,on why I suggested them - and why I take these drops to prevent cataracts, based on this ingredient and the research behind it.
Or don't. And whine. And get cataracts. I don't care, honestly.

What's very likely? Yo getting them, or all people? My dad never got cataratcs. I'm almost 70, I've never had them. Many people get them but not all people.

It won't be a problem for a few more years so try to look on the bright side. While you still can.
