CBS News staffers ‘freaking out’ under new Paramount boss mandates

CBS News staffers are “freaking out” over a mandate Thursday from the new boss of parent company Paramount Skydance ordering all workers to return to the office five days a week ahead of an expected cost-cutting bloodbath, The Post has learned.

David Ellison, who completed the long-stalled $8.4 billion merger with the media giant last month, gave employees the option to return to their desks full-time or take a buyout, according to the memo obtained by The Post.

“People are freaking out and wondering if they’ll survive at the company until Thanksgiving,” one source close to the situation said.

“They are hoping to get a lot of attrition.”

Paramount Skydance — home to ratings-challenged CBS News, along with struggling cable channels MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon — is looking to slash at least $2 billion from the budget, The Post exclusively reported last month.

Currently, each business unit has its own work-from-home policy.

Ellison said the “phased return-to-office” will start in January and would mandate employees to return to work in their Los Angeles and New York offices five days a week.

“I believe that in-person collaboration is absolutely vital to building and strengthening our culture and driving the success of our business,” the son of billionaire Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison wrote.

So??

by Anonymousreply 1September 5, 2025 10:43 PM

It's interesting how nobody really thinks these five days in the dreary cubicle farms is either necessary or even desirable. It's always instituted as a kind of collective punishment or some excuse to get a lot of people either to quit or get fired. It's obviously just shit on the face of it, but of course, shitty decisions for shitty reasons are the essence of modern corporate "management."

brain-dead corporate speak nobody is expected to believe.

Oh, well, dead inside corporations get a few more years I guess before collapsing completely.

Millennials and Zoomers are going to have to leave the comfy confines of their homes and go to the office five days a week ? Seriously ? And they're going to have to interact with others and s-s-s-s-socialize ?

by Anonymousreply 4September 5, 2025 10:47 PM

Jesus take the buyout. Isn't CBS news about to become a Free Press Bari Weiss led Israeli propaganda outfit anyway?

by Anonymousreply 5September 5, 2025 10:50 PM

Eldergay alert @ r4 = one of the remaining who still watches CBS "News".

by Anonymousreply 6September 5, 2025 11:00 PM

Will Gayle King of CBS Morning News with Gayle King, Featuring Gayle King leave when her contract is up next summer? She already took a pay cut last contract.

by Anonymousreply 7September 5, 2025 11:02 PM

Until her contract is up, Gayle's ass better be in her office chair Monday through Friday!

by Anonymousreply 8September 5, 2025 11:07 PM

It's not 1971 anymore when there were only a handful of tv channels and everyone watched the network news at night. A lot of people don't watch broadcast tv anymore and just watch streaming thru Roku or Amazon Fire stick. The network news is a RELIC from the past.

Larry Ellison's son is a right-wing nutter and only has his job because he's a nepo baby

by Anonymousreply 10September 5, 2025 11:24 PM

Ahem

Uh, government Boomer workers are outraged over being called back into the office too, hon.

by Anonymousreply 12September 5, 2025 11:37 PM

Also, r10, he has evil eyes.

by Anonymousreply 13September 5, 2025 11:37 PM

R12: Uhhh the Baby Boomers are retired if you haven't noticed. You must mean Gen X? They are the asshole corporate overlords now and they deserve to be recognized.

by Anonymousreply 14September 5, 2025 11:53 PM

R12 Boomers are retired, sweetie.

by Anonymousreply 15September 6, 2025 12:18 AM

No they’re not. Boomers are still working.

by Anonymousreply 16September 6, 2025 1:30 AM

The youngest of the Boomers are in their 60s. If they haven’t retired or been laid off - - - they soon will be.

by Anonymousreply 17September 6, 2025 1:54 AM

never watching cbs or paramount again

Working remotely is a new status symbol.

by Anonymousreply 19September 6, 2025 2:18 AM

R15: You know, the way that Gen X turned "Boomer" into a slur? I think it's their turn. It's high time for Gen X to step out from the shadows of Boomers and to feel and get all of the credit that they so richly deserve. They've been ignored for far too long.

by Anonymousreply 20September 6, 2025 2:22 AM

I would be so more productive working at home. The amount of time busybody cubemates talk to me about nonsense or deciding where to order lunch from easily takes an hour out of my day.

by Anonymousreply 21September 6, 2025 4:02 AM

They pay Gayle King and her wigs at least $4 million a year.

She hasn’t been on her own morning show in two weeks and she is perpetually gone. Like, ALL the time. So much so that NY tabloids often mock her for it. They should cut her entitled ass and leave lower level employees alone.

by Anonymousreply 22September 6, 2025 12:34 PM

R20, hon? GenX didn’t turn the word “boomer into a slur”. That was Millennials. You sound like a drooling simpleton.

by Anonymousreply 23September 6, 2025 12:35 PM

[quote]No they’re not. Boomers are still working.

Boomers were born between 1946-64. The oldest boomer is now 78, the youngest is 61. The youngest will be eligible to retire next year.

by Anonymousreply 24September 6, 2025 12:45 PM

R23: You're giving us far too much credit, which is highly unusual for your generation in relation to ours, HON. I very clearly remember Gen X ragging on Boomers when we were just wee children.

But, I understand. You're getting old. You might be getting a little soft in the head.

by Anonymousreply 25September 6, 2025 12:50 PM

Boomers are retired or very soon going to be. And Gen X had nothing to do with boomer being turned into a slur, that would be millennials and z on TikTok.

by Anonymousreply 26September 6, 2025 12:54 PM

R26: NOPE.

You guys were hashing it out in the 80s. Remember Family Ties?

Half of millennials weren't even borne when that show was still on-air.

by Anonymousreply 27September 6, 2025 12:56 PM

Ms Gayle and her wig was in her anchor chair this morning after weeks away. She'll be here this week, except probably for Friday, then likely missing at least half of next week. There's NO way the new owners of that network are going to keep her. Sister doesn't want to work. She wants to party and talk with celebrities. She's obsessed with celebrity culture, especially for a woman her age. This whole narrative of her being some 'serious' or 'respected' journalist is a load of shit and that B.S. is on full display every day.
