I found this documentary with some things I was not aware of, etc. So I have posted it here, since tomorrow is September 6th.
I had no idea Diana and her brother Charles had a huge falling out before she died. Apparently she had asked him to please allow her to live in a "cottage" on the grounds of the Spencer estate, so she could escape the high level of media attention she was subjected to in London at Kensington. He refused her insisting that they would just follow her to the Spencer estate. So they weren't speaking. Then he gets in a snit about his role in planning her funeral. He was/is an asshole.

I don't think the level of fame and public adoration Diana had would be possible in today's world.

The boys looked so vulnerable and so young.

Yeah. Everything about his eulogy was vomit-inducing. (As was the Candel in the Wind bit.) Diana's relationship with her brother and with her birth family in general was at least as troubled as her relationship with the royal family. He himself was a disreputable husband, and his pledge that his family would have a role in the lives of the princes ended as soon as he sat down from delivering the speech.

Are Diana fans the same kind of people that worship and adore Meghan Markle? I dont get how someone can be a fan of someone who did nothing but get pictures taken of them. There's no art to appreciate.

Many aspects of that funeral were an abortion. Just compare it with the taste and dignity of Prince Philips's funeral. But the Queen was pretty much held hostage by a psychotic populace at that time.

Oh, God. This floozie got knocked up by a prince. I'm not sure that I understand the hagiography about her ever since.

Yeah. It was really out of control. The turnout of mourners for Elizabeth II probably exceeded that for Diana, but everyone was sensible in recognizing that they were simply recognizing the Queen for how conscientiously she did the job, and the personal sacrifices she made to do it and the fact that the country had lost a figure that had been part of public consciousness for almost a century. Nobody veered into this historical adoration.

The Queen should have retired. She was there too long. I like Charles and Camilla has done a good job.

Diana was the first time a Royal was accessible and showed their humanity. The RF had always been formal and aloof. And then, of course we all lived out the drama she and Charles created. It was the world's biggest reality show. Behand the scenes the Queen must have been shitting bricks at the behavior of Andrew and Fergie and Charles and Diana. So messy. But really great drama. And the two little boys were adorable. Things were changing and Diana was a catalyst for it. She refused to just g o away. Fade into the background. Take the money and disappear. I loved that about her.

Diana was the Kim Kardashian of the 80s and 90s. Only no sex tape that we know of

The only good thing you can say about her is what she did for AIDS. Otherwise, she was really just a publicity-mad narcissist who would have been a deeply messed up obscurity if Charles hadn't deigned to marry her.

R13 in 1997 and for years after that those who liked Diana, and there were tens of millions who did, didn't see those less attractive aspects of her personality. And now they do, partly because of the revisionist history Charles and Camilla encouraged. I am saying that while Diana was difficult and given to histrionics, and tried to make sense of the attention she generated by trying out different strategies all for naught, she was still a very extraordinary public figure.

What you are saying may apply outside Britain. By the time she died, people were starting to tire of her and her attention seeking. She died soon enough avoid sliding into public disapproval.
I guess I was one of the prescient one. I couldn't stand her from the moment she entered public life.

I thought she was foolish and immature, but I didn't dislike her. She was too young to marry Charles and had a ridiculous expectation of marrying Prince Charming and living happily every after in a castle. Reality was much different.

Many people tend to idolize beautiful famous people who die young in tragic circumstances. If Marilyn Monroe had lived a long life and died of old age, would she be the icon she is today?
