Approaching six months since it premiered. Hulu usually renews or cancels a show within three or four months after the last episode airs.
Why hasn’t Mid-Century Modern been canceled yet?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 7, 2025 5:54 PM |
Don’t know but the cast options should be expiring soon.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 5, 2025 10:46 AM |
One "option" already expired.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 5, 2025 11:26 AM |
I enjoyed it. Such as it was.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 5, 2025 11:49 AM |
Because MCM is timeless. It will never be canceled, at least in our lifetimes. In fact, as time progresses I believe architecture will move closer and closer to the MCM esthetic. People like clean, airy spaces. The styles you'll likely see dwindling in the future are the fake reproduction styles such as colonial and italianate.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 5, 2025 11:58 AM |
I liked it too r3. It was fun and light. Even the supporting actors like Richard Kind added something.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 5, 2025 12:12 PM |
It was a light sitcom, funnier than many. Do we want mainstream representation, or high art? Because guess what, the two don't usually go together.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 5, 2025 1:00 PM |
It’s most likely dead. They might give it one more season.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 5, 2025 1:03 PM |
I really hope it gets another season.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 5, 2025 1:39 PM |
Seems unlikely. They do not typically allow themselves to get this close to the cast options expiring.
Didn’t I read that one of the creators suggested that unless you were shipped increased, it was unlikely to earn a second season?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 5, 2025 2:14 PM |
If Vicious in UK got a second season, MCM deserves one. At least not as depressing as- and more funny - than the last “representation” of elder gays in sitcom.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 5, 2025 2:16 PM |
Haven’t seen it. But Richard Kind is on it?
HARD PASS
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 5, 2025 2:17 PM |
It's just embarrassing that Matt Bomer is in this dreck, after doing several prestige projects.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 5, 2025 2:21 PM |
R12, a girl's gotta eat.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 5, 2025 3:41 PM |
At least there were no stereotypes in MCM.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 5, 2025 3:55 PM |
They need to find someone to replace Linda Lavin, but unfortunately Bonnie Franklin is also dead.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 5, 2025 3:57 PM |
R15 I'm available!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 5, 2025 4:05 PM |
Is it really "unfortunate"?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 5, 2025 4:06 PM |
If they want to replace anyone, start with the writers. Oof.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 5, 2025 4:31 PM |
I loved it. But then, I’m a 90s bitch, so the retro feel was most welcome.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 5, 2025 4:36 PM |
The show is about as funny as a brain tumor.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 5, 2025 4:36 PM |
Hi, Heather!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 5, 2025 4:39 PM |
I couldn’t be,I’ve those guys were friends. There was no chemistry.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 5, 2025 4:44 PM |
Good God, I just realized this thread is about some TV show I've never heard of, and not MDM architecture.
Color me dumb.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 5, 2025 11:53 PM |
It's not entertaining. The actors say their line then mug for the camera. The laugh track is annoying. The portrayal of gay life for a 69-, 57- and 48-year-old seems unrealistic. The show certainly does not show gay men in a positive light.

Like Magic Mike XXL?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 6, 2025 3:49 AM |
Plastic Matt Bomer is the weakest link in everything he's cast in.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 6, 2025 3:52 AM |
R9 what does shipped increased mean?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 6, 2025 3:56 AM |
R27, I think that was a talk-to-text mistranslation of “viewership increase” at R9
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 6, 2025 4:01 AM |
They are still negotiating with Faye Dunaway.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 6, 2025 4:03 AM |
I do think Midcentury Modern may have exposed Matt’s lack of comedic skill. He seemed out of his depth. If depth is possible in MM.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 6, 2025 4:28 AM |
R4 R23 I just thought you were expertly trolling.
That’s how cynical I’ve become on DL.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 6, 2025 8:51 AM |
Bah humbug. I'm a bitter, mean, foul-smelling, unfuckable old gay codger, living in a trailer, so beautiful Matt Bomer must be untalented and unsuccessful.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 6, 2025 9:36 AM |
I think Marty’s wooden quality works is the Jerry role.
He’s supposed to be repressed Mormon, after all!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 6, 2025 10:46 PM |
Matty’s
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 6, 2025 10:46 PM |
The show was awful. Nathan Lane mugged to the balcony in every show. Matt Bomer seemed lost and NLG just didn’t fit into the equation. When Linda Lavin is the best part of your show, you’ve got problems. Then she dies! In no way did I ever feel these guys would be friends. So……the writing was terrible. Makes me think Will & Grace was a lucky accident.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 6, 2025 11:57 PM |
Richard Kind is a friend of mine -- not close, but friendly.
He is one of the nicest people I have ever met -- the only actor I've ever been able to connect with. On other words, he isn't all about himself.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 7, 2025 12:03 AM |
Bomer should just go right in to porn. She’s pretty, but can’t really act.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 7, 2025 12:07 AM |
I like the show.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 7, 2025 12:09 AM |
Someone posted this screenshot on Reddit last month.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 7, 2025 12:13 AM |
Could Bette Midler be Matte Bomers mom who escapes from mormon territory and replaces the L. Lavin character, making up for a lifetime of being pious ?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 7, 2025 12:32 AM |
As if Bette Midler could ever have a son who looked like Matt Bomer.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 7, 2025 12:41 AM |
Blythe Danner should play Boner’s mother.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 7, 2025 2:51 AM |
I am not friends with Richard Kind, but he lives in my neighborhood, and he's as down-to-earth as can be. I once had a conversation with him about salads outside Sweet Green, of all things. And a few weeks ago, I took the bus back uptown, and he sat right in front of me. He is utterly unpretentious, and he's funny.
So I don't get the Richard Kind hatred for a second.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 7, 2025 3:17 AM |
I love Richard Kind!

Me neither.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 7, 2025 4:03 AM |
Get rid of Bomer and it could have a chance
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 7, 2025 4:09 AM |
I actually knew Richard Kind’s dad back in the day. He was a jeweler in Princeton and a great guy.
People in the business rave about Richard.
Now back to MCM … it is hard to fathom how these guys are long-time friends (or how a character who as a flight attendant deals with the public at their worst remains so naive). They have them break into song and dance to suggest a shared history but it’s just superficial nonsense.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 7, 2025 2:09 PM |
Sometimes superficial nonsense is ok.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 7, 2025 3:57 PM |
A good friend of mine who is very much a NYC theater person agreed that MCM was trash, but that it was always good to see Richard Kind. The guy has certainly generated goodwill amongst his peers.
