Channing Tatum ‘Concerned’ Crew When He Lost 70 Lbs. for “Roofman” Role

Channing Tatum dropped so much weight while filming Roofman that the crew became “concerned” for him.

Roofman — based on the real-life story of Jeffrey Manchester, who broke out of jail and lived inside the walls of a Toys ‘R’ Us — is “a really thin guy. Like, he's not as big-boned as me,” Tatum, 45, told Variety. He shared that he’d wanted to lose some weight to play the “wiry” Jeff, as he’d recently bulked up for a role.

“I got up to like 240,” Tatum said, likely referencing his dramatic weight gain for the thriller Josephine. But for 'Roofman," Tatum explained that he’d planned to stop his weight loss when he hit 185 lbs. Once I was already going, it's just the days of shooting, it just kept coming off and I got down to like 172.”

“Our assistant director, Mary Ellis, she was concerned,” director Derek Cianfrance said.

“She's like, that’s it … get him a steak right now,” Tatum quipped, adding that the weight loss was, in part, due to an “emptiness” and “sadness” he felt in the character. “I just see myself and I would just seem hollow and the movie ... for me was a lot of, like, loneliness.”

He continued: “A real meditation for that and wanting to be full and trying to, like, fill an empty vessel. That empty feeling sucks after a while,” Tatum added with a laugh.

Cianfrance told the outlet that Tatum had originally planned to lose weight as “Jeff was The Roofman, and he had to get into tight spaces and he has to live inside the walls of a Toys ‘R’ Us.”

“It's harder to do that when you're bigger,” Cianfrance explained. “I was like, whatever you want to do.”

In March, Tatum said he’s finished with gaining and losing weight for roles in an Instagram post where he thanked his chef, nutritionist and trainer.

“I couldn’t make these big swings in my weight without you guys. But I won’t be doing any more fat roles haha,” Tatum said. “It’s too hard on the body and too hard to take off now.”

He wants an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 2September 4, 2025 4:45 PM

Channing looks so much better when he's heavier.

He looks gross when he's thin.

Yes, I prefer 'fat' Channing.

Yum...

Did he Ozempic?

by Anonymousreply 5September 4, 2025 5:03 PM

It doesn’t seem very healthy or smart to be dramatically going up and down in weight and muscle the way he does, now that he’s in his mid 40s.

by Anonymousreply 6September 4, 2025 5:10 PM

I thought Bill Cosby was roof-man???

I wasn't healthy at any age.

But, he was a slim, muscular guy in his 20s.

Other guys his age should take notice and do the same. There’s no excuse for being hefty.

by Anonymousreply 9September 4, 2025 5:15 PM

What a waste of time for a film no-one's going to see.

by Anonymousreply 10September 4, 2025 5:15 PM

Two words...Shelley Winters.

by Anonymousreply 11September 4, 2025 5:24 PM

He went from Orson Welles to Karen Carpenter real fast!

by Anonymousreply 12September 4, 2025 5:26 PM

Why is his navel grimacing even though he's lost weight?

by Anonymousreply 13September 4, 2025 5:26 PM

He's 6'1". I dunno, I'm 6'1" and 172 is my goal weight. It's crazy how much he's lost when these last 10 pounds are clinging to me like a spurned lover

by Anonymousreply 14September 4, 2025 5:29 PM

At his age, his body is meant to carry some bulk. He looks "methy" at 172 lbs.

by Anonymousreply 15September 4, 2025 5:30 PM

He does look like everyone’s white trash, meth-head cousin.

by Anonymousreply 16September 4, 2025 5:34 PM

He's lucky he doesn't have any visible loose skin.

by Anonymousreply 17September 4, 2025 5:48 PM

Been there, done that.

"Fat" Channing Tatum is the DL definition of "fit-fat."

by Anonymousreply 20September 4, 2025 6:00 PM

Yet another one who looked hotter fatter.

by Anonymousreply 21September 4, 2025 6:03 PM

I’m a bit over him.

I know he cultivates this affable persona, but my spidy sense is telling me he must be a bit of a dick, considering how his career has really stalled.

The multiple high-profile relationships are a red flag, too.

by Anonymousreply 22September 4, 2025 6:05 PM

Contrarian voice.. 172 is teenage thin for him. But I bet he looked fine at 182.

I will see this movie because I followed the true story and it's interesting.

by Anonymousreply 23September 4, 2025 6:07 PM

We’re so used to fat and flab, we’ve forgotten that how he now looks is what a normal adult male should look like. Your belly is not supposed to stick out beyond your waistband.

by Anonymousreply 24September 4, 2025 6:11 PM

It's shady the magazine did not edit out all Tatum's "like,"s

by Anonymousreply 25September 4, 2025 6:14 PM

Never got the big deal about him. Don't find him that attractive at any size.

by Anonymousreply 26September 4, 2025 6:16 PM

Nothing TOO special and that was his charm. He was a delicious piece when he was young.

My "ideal weight" according to BMI charts is about 20 lbs below the weight where I start to look gaunt and sallow and walk around in a mental funk with a sour stomach constantly. I think these formulas were set in a concentration camp.

by Anonymousreply 28September 4, 2025 6:28 PM

Tatum doesn't look like a concentration camp victim at 172. He looks like a mature skinny guy. Still dime a dozen in some countries. Italy, France and Netherlands have lots of low body fat 45 year olds.

by Anonymousreply 29September 4, 2025 6:42 PM

I still can't believe that in 2025 this guy is still considered a "Hollywood leading man".

In that before/after pic, he looks now like Shane West.

by Anonymousreply 30September 4, 2025 6:48 PM

[quote] Did he Ozempic?

No, he Ketoed.

by Anonymousreply 31September 4, 2025 7:09 PM

They’re all ozempicing, though perhaps at a low, “maintenance” dose.

See Britney’s flat ass for proof.

by Anonymousreply 32September 4, 2025 7:43 PM

Oh yes he's such the method ACTOR.

You can almost hear the conversation he had last year with his agent - I'm TIRED of playing beefy Magic Mike guys. I want to be taken SERIOUSLY as an actor. How do we do that?

"We need to expand your range - let's do a serious film where you transform yourself. Of course, because it's a smaller film, you'll get paid practically nothing - but you may be able to get some back on box office percentage if it does well. In any event, we can play this whole thing up - it will work WONDERS for your career!"

This meathead isn't serious.

by Anonymousreply 33September 4, 2025 7:47 PM

The real clue that he’s on GLPs is that he kept losing weight without trying.

Tirzep really does kill your appetite. A little too much. Days 1-5 after a shot, I have to force myself to eat anything at all. Appetite comes back a bit around day 6.

I spread my doses out a bit more so I have a few days of feeling semi-normal before the next shot.

by Anonymousreply 34September 4, 2025 7:53 PM

Are you a skinny hung silver zaddy now, R34?

by Anonymousreply 35September 4, 2025 7:56 PM

Fat Channing: cum rolled off.

Skinny Channing: cum pools up.

by Anonymousreply 36September 4, 2025 8:04 PM

Fat!

by Anonymousreply 37September 4, 2025 8:15 PM

R34 how long have you been on tirzep? How much weight have you lost? I'm tempted, (but might just microdose it as a dementia prophylactic)

by Anonymousreply 38September 4, 2025 8:16 PM

He looks terrible in the before, bloated pic. Stupid, dead-eyed, and blubbery. I am impressed how much fat fell off his formerly fat face.

by Anonymousreply 39September 4, 2025 8:22 PM

R39 is the “FAT FACER!” troll!

by Anonymousreply 40September 4, 2025 8:40 PM

R35 and R38, I wanted to lose about 40 pounds and I’ve lost 35 truly without trying. This was over a period of about a year. I only dose every 10-14 days, so it works out to about $250 / month that way.

by Anonymousreply 41September 4, 2025 8:43 PM

R41 you have to pay for it?

by Anonymousreply 42September 4, 2025 8:46 PM

R42, yes. Wasn’t covered for me by insurance.

by Anonymousreply 43September 4, 2025 8:48 PM

R41 any issues with muscle loss, or "Ozempic face", or any other negatives? You've definitely got me thinking about this

by Anonymousreply 44September 4, 2025 8:56 PM

I, too, am concerned about Mr. Tatum's body weight.

by Anonymousreply 45September 4, 2025 9:50 PM

Lol R37.

by Anonymousreply 46September 5, 2025 4:03 AM

Was he "pooped!"?

Did he have the "Slimmer's Disease?"
