The colour isn’t all bad for her skin tone. But it hasn’t been blended properly with her hair underneath. Like she tossed in on her head as she dashed out of the house. Where was her stylist?

I love how it's claimed that her hair lightened 'naturally' during her sunny vacation in Greece. Sure, Jan. But it's not a bad idea for her to go lighter as she ages, instead of frantically covering up gray every month. With her health history she is probably reluctant to put toxic chemicals on her head on a regular basis.

She needs to cut it. Too long.

She was likely going grey before the chemo. She was likely already coloring it.

Chemo might have accelerated that, so why not try something different.

It just looks like it isn’t real. Angelina Jolie lightened her hair a similar colour but hers doesn’t look fake. A swinging, curly ponytail might have showed off the new colour better.

She did say she was cancer free; and when she toured the cancer hospital she didn’t know what a cold cap was, so it’s unlikely she followed a treatment protocol that caused hair loss.

I really dislike this color on her and I'm a big Kate fan.

For some reason ash blonde color has come back in a way I haven't seen since the early-to-mid '70s, when many women still sported a bouffant. And it looks TERRIBLE on 90% of those people. My 4th grade teacher's hair was the exact color of Kate's wig, but it suited her natural coloring. Can't have ash blonde hair look flattering if your skintone is ashen, or your undertone is anything close to grey.

Kate's ash blonde wig/tracks absolutely wash her out, and that's too bad, because even with the cancer and weight loss, she's still a nice looking woman.

Like someone else said, she should fire her hair and makeup people; no reason she should look this drawn, grey and unwell in public if she's truly cancer-free.

That’s not extensions, which she’s used for ages. That’s a wig and she is either (1) batshit and edging towards Baby Jane territory or (2) Intentionally wearing a shitty wig she bought from Kim Zolciak to let people know that she really is too ill to work and to make people think her hair used to be real (and a lot of it was, but she’s been augmenting it for decades).

There is no way that is real hair. At least not real hair that grew out of her head. I realize people have become used to seeing over the top extensions, but it’s still surprising that anyone would find that hair plausibly real. I’d like to mock it more harshly, but someone that age with three young children being that ill is pretty sad. I don’t envy her situation.

Back from the Wig Outlet, Prince William refused a toupee and still resents the suggestion.

She looks a damn mess, as if she just broke out of the looney bin. Did she and William fuck in the car or does her team just hate her?

I know her longtime hairstylist left, I think she’s going through a divorce, but that’s not an excuse. Kate can call up the best hairstylists in the UK, the rest of Europe, or better yet, America to come save her. They’d fall over themselves for the change to work on a royal, with mountains of cash.

But she’s too rich for that cheap, shake and wear, wig. Now, it’s a partial wig, so her real hair is in the front and even that is a mess. The coloring is trash. What should be ashy blonde looks almost green.

Fire the entire team, makeup included, because they are clearly working against her.

It’s not a “trope” to say she looks fine The trope is that she should look like someone else’s conception of a Fairy Tale princess.

That color is horrible for her. It's clearly a wig, but she needs to go darker and shorter. She looks like a lollipop with that thing on.

I can't bring myself to snark on a mum of three young children who has been fighting cancer for a few years. Yup, she's rich enough for the best cancer care and the best stylists. But nope, will not make disparaging comments about her at this point in time. I have a friend who fought cancer and made it through the other side but the treatments wiped her out for years after she made it to the "all clear." If Kate's still in remission in a few years, I will resume my critiques of her. But for now, she looks like she has been to hell and back so I'm going to lay off.

All cancer treatments use some combination or surgery, chemo, radiation, maybe stem cell or bone marrow.

I wonder if she’s putting the wig on herself? (for privacy reasons). It’s very tempting to attach the wiglet an inch or so back to disguise the hairline, but that gives the bump effect. It needs to be attached right at the hairline and thinned out at the front by a skilled professional.

This is clearly one of the reasons Queen Elizabeth II never changed her hairstyle. One change and people spend hours debating it. For Kate, it's the same hairstyle she's had for several years, but just a different color. I'm sure she's using extensions but pretty much everyone woman in the public eye does these days. But I don't think it's a wig simply because if she was trying to hide the fact she's losing her hair from further treatment, she would've tried something closer to her natural color. It was rainy and muggy in London today, and humidity does puff up some people's hair. That being said, the lighter tone does age her a bit.

She’s worn extensions in the past and she probably hasn’t done her own hair for most public outings, but maybe the hair loss is recent or she’s had some turnover in the people who are available to do her hair and now she feels uncomfortable? Or she’s ill and simplifying and this seemed like a way to streamline her routine?

Questions for any hair stylists - 1. If someone is transitioning from using extensions or wiglets or whatever to needing a full wig, is it difficult to get a wig that looks convincingly like your previous hair? I’m wondering if maybe the unflattering color was meant to distract from the transition. 2. Is this a wig that looks bad on her and isn’t fitted/positioned properly or is this a bad wig, period?

Yikes, the DM has a photo (scroll down) from the back view and her hair is not blended, you can see different sections which I guess are the extensions. I can understand going lighter as one ages but she needs toner for that ashy shade.

Other than the ghastly hair color, I don’t think she looks unwell in the photos. It helps that she is smiling in each one, otherwise her Nasolabial folds are very prominent but they always have been. Also she’s wearing a jacket; at Wimbledon, her arms were bare and they showed how scary thin they were. So I think she looks all right here.

It may not even be due to chemo loss, because many middle age women naturally lose hair volume, and her thick locks have clearly been a source of pride and identity for Kate.

It also looks like the wig is fresh out of the box - it needs to be heavily cut and thinned out. Girl needs to fire her stylist and maybe hire some black ladies, they know much more about wigs.

Chemotherapy can cause early menopause, sometimes temporary, sometimes permanent. Radiation, too. So the hair loss can occur from this. She's only 43, about 5 years early.

Cancer treatments can make hair lighten. It's clear she's going through another round of cancer treatment which has caused this and she's supplementing with extensions.

Nah, that wasn’t her real hair. But she does seem to have a decent head of hair, even if the length and fullness are being supplemented with extensions.
