Best Place to live in NYC?

If money was no object, where would be the best place to live in NYC?

I'm torn between Central Park Tower, Soho, or The Plaza Hotel Private Residences.

by Anonymousreply 75September 5, 2025 8:02 AM

“Were” no object.

by Anonymousreply 1September 2, 2025 10:30 PM

Uptown and downtown completely different vibe

Depends on your age

by Anonymousreply 2September 2, 2025 10:32 PM

I don't like the plaza.

by Anonymousreply 3September 2, 2025 10:32 PM

Patti Lupone's Manhattan apartment. The one across the hall from Audra MacDonald's.

by Anonymousreply 4September 2, 2025 10:38 PM

I like NoHo or Nolita

by Anonymousreply 5September 2, 2025 10:51 PM

Upper West Side

by Anonymousreply 6September 2, 2025 10:53 PM

West Village. Adored my time there.

by Anonymousreply 7September 2, 2025 11:11 PM

Gramercy Park

by Anonymousreply 8September 2, 2025 11:19 PM

West 70s near Broadway

NoHo or Nolita

by Anonymousreply 9September 2, 2025 11:25 PM

West Village.

by Anonymousreply 10September 2, 2025 11:26 PM

West village or Gramercy, definitely.

by Anonymousreply 11September 2, 2025 11:46 PM

Upper East side

by Anonymousreply 12September 2, 2025 11:47 PM

MLK Jr Blvd.

by Anonymousreply 13September 2, 2025 11:48 PM

Either the West Village or in The Ansonia.

by Anonymousreply 14September 2, 2025 11:51 PM

R1 Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 15September 2, 2025 11:54 PM

Sutton Place

by Anonymousreply 16September 3, 2025 12:27 AM

Nowhere once Mamdani becomes Mayor.

by Anonymousreply 17September 3, 2025 12:28 AM

I used to work on Columbus Ave. near the museum. That seemed like a nice neighborhood (20 years ago).

by Anonymousreply 18September 3, 2025 12:50 AM

I like New York in June. How about you?

by Anonymousreply 19September 3, 2025 1:27 AM

No big white box shit.

by Anonymousreply 20September 3, 2025 1:28 AM

Isn’t the West Village essentially just the NYU campus at this point?

by Anonymousreply 21September 3, 2025 1:46 AM

Hudson Yards.

by Anonymousreply 22September 3, 2025 1:50 AM

East End Ave if you want a quiet neighborhood near the hospitals.

by Anonymousreply 23September 3, 2025 4:27 AM

Depends greatly on what you want out of life.

If I win the powerball on Wednesday, I'll buy a place in Hell's Kitchen and try to have as much meaningless sex as possible.

by Anonymousreply 24September 3, 2025 6:07 AM

Murray Hill

by Anonymousreply 25September 3, 2025 6:47 AM

Central Park West.

by Anonymousreply 26September 3, 2025 6:53 AM

Townhouse - Sutton Place

by Anonymousreply 27September 3, 2025 8:05 AM

East Village

by Anonymousreply 28September 3, 2025 9:55 AM

Turtle Bay. I love NYC, but I also like a quiet and leafy neighborhood to rest my head.

by Anonymousreply 29September 3, 2025 9:55 AM

R21, no. Not at all.

by Anonymousreply 30September 3, 2025 10:46 AM

On Gramercy Park, the West Village, the Dakota

by Anonymousreply 31September 3, 2025 10:53 AM

The West Village has really jumped the shark. The NY Mag cover story “It Must Be Nice To Be a West Village Girl” was woefully accurate with how overrun the neighborhood is with white girls in half shirts who have made it impossible to just grab a drink midday on a Saturday. The streets are still beautiful, but the vibe is godawful.

by Anonymousreply 32September 3, 2025 11:23 AM

East Village near that park on 10th

by Anonymousreply 33September 3, 2025 12:06 PM

#3 Beekman Place

by Anonymousreply 34September 3, 2025 12:55 PM

Staten Island, of course.

by Anonymousreply 35September 3, 2025 1:22 PM

West Village: Hudson Street, Greenwich Street, Washington Street, Bank Street

Brooklyn Heights

Upper West Side: The Ansonia, The Belnord, The Apthorp, “Hotel des Artistes” on West 67th Street. The Beresford

Gramercy Park

Upper East Side: 5th Ave to Park Ave between 65th Street and 95th Street

by Anonymousreply 36September 3, 2025 1:31 PM

This thread is BOOOOOORING.

by Anonymousreply 37September 3, 2025 1:34 PM

The village has been ruined by NYU. They expanded over the years and built ugly big buildings but kept those soviet looking housing for the students...

Too many students walking around there....and Washington Sq Park is soooo trashy now with all the drugs being sold openly....

by Anonymousreply 38September 3, 2025 1:35 PM

I liked flatiron area but union sq has too many protests...if there is some shit going on...they will definitely be gathering there and protesting....I'll go shopping there but that's it.

by Anonymousreply 39September 3, 2025 1:37 PM

NYU has not “taken over” the West Village. It’s mostly east and south of Washington Square. The West Village is west of there. NYU dominates the central part of Greenwich Village, as it has for decades. But that’s not West Village.

by Anonymousreply 40September 3, 2025 1:47 PM

OP—Stop dreaming. The Power Ball fortune is mine!

by Anonymousreply 41September 3, 2025 1:49 PM

Hell's Kitchen.

Been here 28 years and will have to be carried out feet first.

by Anonymousreply 42September 3, 2025 1:51 PM

Try Weehawken. Carrie Bradshaw's money would have gone further there.

by Anonymousreply 43September 3, 2025 1:53 PM

FUCK NJ.

by Anonymousreply 44September 3, 2025 1:56 PM

Hey!

by Anonymousreply 45September 3, 2025 2:03 PM

Little West 12th St

by Anonymousreply 46September 3, 2025 4:36 PM

I lived for many years on West 12th Street and let me tell you all Little West 12th St has is a cute name for a few blocks.

by Anonymousreply 47September 3, 2025 4:47 PM

West Village - despite R32 being correct that it’s suddenly overrun with 27 year old girls waiting in line for aperol spritzes. But on weekdays, it’s idyllic. Lost so many of its classic basic places - but it’s still functional despite the onslaught of billionaires and trendy restaurants catering to spendy Gen Z-ers Brooklyn Heights is pretty but a little isolated and not a lot going on. I like parts of the Upper East Side - appreciate the gorgeous architecture of silk stocking district of not the people.

by Anonymousreply 48September 4, 2025 2:14 PM

I love the UWS, but the subway- the 1, 2, and 3 - absolutely sucks compared to the East Side.

by Anonymousreply 49September 4, 2025 2:16 PM

You NYC/Hell’s Kitchen queens really believe the world revolves around you.

by Anonymousreply 50September 4, 2025 2:39 PM

r49 I liked the UWS more when I lived near the Lincoln Center local stop than 72nd Street, where I was always afraid there'd be too many people on the platform.

by Anonymousreply 51September 4, 2025 2:46 PM

Hells Kitchen is overrun with whores.

by Anonymousreply 52September 4, 2025 5:41 PM

Do you have their phone numbers?

by Anonymousreply 53September 4, 2025 5:49 PM

Plaza has low ceilings.

by Anonymousreply 54September 4, 2025 6:47 PM

I bet the new Waldorf Astoria apartments are nice, but who wants to live in midtown?

by Anonymousreply 55September 4, 2025 6:58 PM

Depends what floor. Many floors of the Waldorf have low ceilings. Hotels in NYC were built that way. If you want hotel living and head space, consider Paris, Vienna or Madrid. Ritz Place Vendome - 15 ft ceilings.

by Anonymousreply 56September 4, 2025 7:07 PM

Either UWS or Tribeca.

Now someone needs to do one of these for Los Angeles.

by Anonymousreply 57September 4, 2025 7:10 PM

How about a boring but solid large brownstone on a leafy block in Park Slope. Prospect Park is lovely.

by Anonymousreply 58September 4, 2025 7:11 PM

[quote] Patti Lupone's Manhattan apartment. The one across the hall from Audra MacDonald's.

The one from which she sneers at single people walking in the park?

by Anonymousreply 59September 4, 2025 7:11 PM

Yes. Park Slope is nice. But it can be a schlep.

by Anonymousreply 60September 4, 2025 7:32 PM

When I lived in Brooklyn, it felt like I lived in a suburb. Dense - but very much felt like a hassle getting to Midtown for work and never went to Manhattan on weekends. And the gay bars were hard to get to without Uber. Good restaurants and subway access is easier than a scheduled suburban train - but felt isolating.

by Anonymousreply 61September 4, 2025 7:37 PM

I had the millions for a prime block Park Slope brownstone, and its taxes and maintenance, I could afford a car and driver.

by Anonymousreply 62September 4, 2025 7:40 PM

No Tribeca enthusiasts? This building sounds like it's highly coveted. Some people call it a "celebrity dorm."

R63 - Tribeca has never really been a residential neighborhood. I prefer neighborhoods than living in old commercial warehouse districts.

They had their moment in the 80s and 90s, but it seems like a fad and a bit passe to me. All of these non-artists living in large spaces where artists could actually work and live.

OP - did you just pull 3 places out of the blue? The huge skinny empty cold Central Park Tower? Plaza Residences?

For straight people who want to impress and be around other boring pretentious straight rich people, I guess. But most gays scream NON!

by Anonymousreply 64September 4, 2025 9:02 PM

TriBeCa is a bland version of Soho - without the mall or that many useful stores. The loft life is passé.

by Anonymousreply 65September 4, 2025 9:42 PM

Erik Van Conover is cute.

by Anonymousreply 66September 4, 2025 9:49 PM

Fuck Brooklyn

by Anonymousreply 67September 4, 2025 10:51 PM

Central Park is amazing and the air quality is much better if you live closer to it.

by Anonymousreply 68September 4, 2025 10:52 PM

Speaking of Central Park, Stacey Bendet's Dakota combination is awesome.

by Anonymousreply 72September 5, 2025 1:03 AM

Gramercy is very small area, not that great

by Anonymousreply 73September 5, 2025 1:51 AM

Tribeca is full of finance bros and their Bethany Frankel wives.
