What is wrong with Camille Paglia
I don’t want to hear shit about her politics. I am asking is she totally manic and untreated when she speaks in public. Sexual Personae was exquisitely well-written even if you don’t believe a word of it. No one was qualified to read her work because she wrote deeply about art history, English lit and film in her later works. Who was capable of seriously reviewing it?
Anyway, my real question is , is Camille Paglia mentally ill or just eccentric?

She’s seemed irrelevant for decades and is now age 78.

Irrelevant contrarian shit-stirrer. Punch and delete.

She was right about a lot of what she said back in the early 90s and received so much shit for it. She still makes great points today, especially in regards to the crap Lena Dunham keeps pushing and the transgender movement. That being said, she speaks fast with a manic edge. Maybe she’s bipolar? I don’t know. She’s had a huge resurgence with Gen Z in recent years due to her interviews in the last ten years and her old ones being pulled up.

I think she’s an untreated nut and she’s always supported pedophillia.

She's a climate change denier who told gay people in the early 90s that they were childish to demand rights when the President had "so much on his plate" at the time.

Everything she has ever published has been riddled with mistakes, factual inaccuracies and pure tripe.

She supports NAMBLA and believes priests that committed rape/sexual assault of children/teens are "victims".

She's a precursor to Intellectual Dark Web posers like Jordan Peterson, using her academic credentials to sell her spleeb to the general public. I always found her boring and incoherent.

She's a contrarian. That's it. Once you see it you can't unsee it. She's mentally ill and gets off on controversy. Other than that there is no "there," there. Her admirers always come across as idiots. She's "deep" in the way that guy in your dorm freshman year was "deep" after a few bong hits. She's masquerading as an intellectual, but she's quite stupid. Her intellect is all smoke and mirrors.

She is a LOON. For every one thing she’s said correct, there are 500 incorrect, and 10,000 that are just plain crazy.

For years she promoted that old theory that male homosexuality is environmental and not biological, that it's caused by an overbearing mother and a father who is either absent, emotionally distant or abusive. A theory that is so ancient and ridiculous it's not even worth the effort to respond to.

R12, I remember one of her articles said "no wonder so many men become gay these days".

If the phrase "a broken clock is right twice a day" was in the dictionary, Camille's pic would be used. But twice a day is being generous.

She's the rhetoric and worldviews of the most rapidly conservative Christian fascist in the guise of a lesbian academic.
That's it. That's all that you need to know about Camille Paglia.

The conservatives loved her after she came out against Hillary in 2016. She had a resurgence that she seemed to enjoy and you couldn’t find a right wing grifter that had not had her on.
This ended quickly when her advocacy of child abuse was brought to light. She’s been persona non grata ever since.
Last year the University of the Arts closed allowing for her long overdue retirement.
Here in the south gay republicans are common. I’ve heard several bring her up as some sort of cultural soothsayer, only to back down when you politely remind them that she never met a pederast she didn’t like.

What was her justification for the support of child sexual abuse? Honestly, I don't want to look it up.

Armond White is the Black male version of her, always punching down on the left and coddling the right.
She felt heartbroken when Madonna called her out in her acceptance speech at some award show years ago as being one of the feminists who wrote negatively about her. To be fair, Paglia was a champion of Madonna's back when the press and academia didn't take Madonna seriously, so it was odd that Madonna would single her out like that.

From Wikipedia, which has a section "Child Sexuality" on their Camille Paglia page:
[quote]Paglia notably commented in an interview in 1992: "In the case of Sinéad O'Connor, child abuse was justified". This was her response to the singer's action on Saturday Night Live, where she tore up a picture of the pope in protest of the unfolding child sexual abuse scandal surrounding the Catholic Church.[82] In 1993, Paglia signed a manifesto supporting NAMBLA, a pederasty and pedophilia advocacy organization.[83][84] In 1994, Paglia supported lowering the legal age of consent to 14. She noted in a 1995 interview with pro-pedophile activist Bill Andriette, "I fail to see what is wrong with erotic fondling with any age."[85][86] In a 1997 Salon column, Paglia expressed the view that male pedophilia correlates with the heights of a civilization, stating "I have repeatedly protested the lynch-mob hysteria that dogs the issue of man-boy love. In Sexual Personae, I argued that male pedophilia is intricately intertwined with the cardinal moments of Western civilization."[84] Paglia noted in several interviews, as well as Sexual Personae, that she supported the legalization of certain forms of child pornography.[87][88][85]
[quote]She later changed her views on the matter. In an interview for Radio New Zealand's Saturday Morning show, conducted on April 28, 2018, by Kim Hill, Paglia was asked, "Are you a libertarian on the issue of pedophilia?", to which she replied, "In terms of the present day, I think it's absolutely impossible to think we could reproduce the Athenian code of pedophilia, of boy-love, that was central to culture at that time. [...] We must protect children, and I feel that very very strongly. The age of consent for sexual interactions between a boy and an older man is obviously disputed, at what point that should be. I used to think that fourteen (the way it is in some places in the world) was adequate. I no longer think that. I think young people need greater protection than that. [...] This is one of those areas that we must confine to the realm of imagination and the history of the arts."[89]

Good post, R20.
R17, one of her arguments was always that major civilizations at their height allowed for it.
She was also always saying that civilizations that allowed for the lines to be blurred between male and female were circling the drain towards collapse.
This is coming from a lesbian who claims to be transgender and had a young son at the time. You can’t make this shit up. She’s a loon.

In 1992, “Donahue” had an episode about Lesbo a Go-Go and had irate lesbian feminists on and to have balance, had Camille Paglia on. And she was a lesbian feminist but she was the WRONG Camille Paglia. And she was NOT Into Lesbo a Go-Go.
They asked the wrong Camille Paglia onto the show.
