Sewing pattern companies all sold to liquidator

Apparently this is the end of these types of things being available.

That will impact about three people here. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

A lot of those fashions are dated but a clever person could make alterations.

by Anonymousreply 2September 1, 2025 7:55 PM

It is sad. 😄

"NOTICE: We do not sell patterns!"

It’s a shame. People are trying to avoid fast fashion by sewing for themselves but Etsy is flooded with bogus AI patterns.

by Anonymousreply 5September 1, 2025 9:08 PM

Oh noes - the ā€œmodestā€ Christian clothing website and business at r4 is for sale due to a death in the family. [italic]ā€Serious principals only inquire within.ā€[/italic]

I wonder if they mean ā€œprinciplesā€.

Anyway, moment of silence…

by Anonymousreply 6September 1, 2025 9:18 PM

I don't know if you are making a joke, but the correct technical term is "principal".

by Anonymousreply 7September 1, 2025 9:21 PM

It's unfortunate - no ifs, ands or Butterick.

Lots of women still sewed when I grew up in the 60s. My grandma,my mother and many aunts and neighbor ladies would have sewing parties. Not quilting, theres a difference ! Theyd trade patterns, help each other with special pieces like a wedding or prom dress etc. I remember the laughter, the discreet drinking, the clouds of cigarette smoke . but they were having a blast and being thrifty for their families. Sad women these days dont have anything like that .

by Anonymousreply 9September 1, 2025 9:30 PM

As a drag queen, out of necessity I used to have to do some clever thrifting and fitting adjustments - happy to report I always looked like a million bucks and scored PRIME PRIME dick, but that’s not what I’m here to talk about.

I still find watching sewing and makeup videos soothing. This lady doesn’t share my fashion style at all, but she’s so capable and practical that I admire her.

Some woman who spends 2 days washing her hair is just devastated.

by Anonymousreply 11September 1, 2025 10:07 PM

We just can’t have anything nice and normal anymore. My mom is ā€œleavingā€ - 88 with dementia. I know this has happened for centuries but now it seems like the things they had to share or remember are just trashed. Local cookbooks with spattered pages, wooden shoeshine kits, books, magazines - heck wall mounted pencil sharpeners -Thriftstores won’t take anything. No more sewing machines, upright pianos, sheet music to the Baby Elephant Walk. No more patterns? No more ā€œtomatoā€ pin cushions.

by Anonymousreply 12September 1, 2025 10:46 PM

I am helping to organize my mom’s house. I can’t make her understand that since her vision is too poor now to knit or sew (or even read much), she does not need her many sewing kits, skeins of yarn, and craft books/magazines. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 13September 1, 2025 10:58 PM

Is she on the way to her heavenly pattern maker?

by Anonymousreply 14September 1, 2025 11:04 PM

This is a big loss. Yunguns will adapt with PDF patterns sold by small designers. but it will definitely be a taller hill to climb starting out. I have collected sewing patterns dated from the 1920s onward, and they tell so much about (mostly women's) history. Tbere is robust trade in vintage sewing machines; not sure of the business of new ones but I doubt that one of the machines that changed the world will completely disappear.

Chatbot will sew it for ya

My favorite was Nancy, the sewing stroke victim.

r17 I loved Nancy!

Even if she always looked like one eye was giving you side eye.

by Anonymousreply 20September 1, 2025 11:24 PM

She needs a smoldering Kent sticking out of the squinched side of her face.

by Anonymousreply 21September 1, 2025 11:28 PM

Sometimes I’ll check in on Bernadette Banner, who meticulously makes Victorian style clothes. She’s kind of a rich bitch, tho, that I can’t quite figure out. Like, how did she get her apartment?? (She also has some mysterious fit issue in her torso - scoliosis?) (It isn’t quite clear.)

Anyway, this is an interesting episode… she has a Mrs Maisel costume copied for her. I think the point is you can download the pattern.

Oh, no! How will I ever run up a new caftan on mother's Singer?

by Anonymousreply 23September 1, 2025 11:42 PM

Very sad. One of my best friends makes all of her own clothes and it’s fascinating how the kits have various trucks for customization.

by Anonymousreply 24September 1, 2025 11:42 PM

My sister-in-law has an extensive collection of old patterns and has a seamstress to bring them to life. She's a horrible old, loud-mouthed, tactless, witch but she always looks good.

It all started with her obsession with Jackie Kennedy and that Chanel suit.

by Anonymousreply 25September 1, 2025 11:43 PM

Is her Olega?

by Anonymousreply 26September 1, 2025 11:44 PM

If one needs trucks for customization, well…

by Anonymousreply 27September 1, 2025 11:44 PM

My senior citizen mother will be devastated. It’s sad that younger women didn’t take up sewing

by Anonymousreply 28September 2, 2025 12:32 AM

I wish I could sew. Not for clothes as much as curtains and slip covers

by Anonymousreply 29September 2, 2025 12:37 AM

R29, it’s a great way to spend $1,200 and you always fight for space to gently store projects for another day.

I began slip covers because Pottery Barn charged me $60 per pillow cover with shitty nylon zippers and velvet that molted on low heat. My six pillows cost me $1,200, but they all had brass zippers.
