It seems like all of the most awful people on Earth right now: in politics, media, and entertainment are old. Remember when the villains were mostly thirty and forty something year olds. What gives? Old people used to mellow out in olden age or at least have more of a conscious. Even the ones not old old, are oldish like Roseanne Barr. Goddamn modern medicine.
When did old people become so nasty?

I'm old and agree. Ancient people shouldn't be in positions of power, especially politics. Current problems won't change with old ideas. Am also getting tired of seeing surgically renovated old people on the screen.

They are bitter boomers who cannot outrun their own mortality and they are pissed. Also they sit home and marinate in Faux News which promotes being aggrieved and outraged.

Still more fun than ignorant and entitled Gen Z. Do fuck right off.

Hell of a data collection and analysis system you have in place, genius.

I'm always amazed how some people have managed to get older (like, 80+) and haven't been able to keep up with a lot of things. It's like so many things that they're called upon to do (park cars, pick up medications, go grocery shopping, use basic technology) seem to confuse them and this bewilderment leads to tirades. This group -- and this is where one has to write, "but not everyone, of course" because. . . of course -- also remains completely clueless to others' mere existence, taking an inordinate amount of time to complete basic tasks.

We became nasty when younger people starting treating us like shit. The lack of respect for seniors in this country is disgusting.

Yeah - im realizing now thst old people become increasingly selfish and self - centered and stop making any effort to be nice to people. After dealing with with mold parent san old neighbors for years, im so sick of it and refuse to be the nice younger person. Old age = egocentrism in my experience. It takes work to be nice - and most old people stop making the effort.

Yeah, I’m realizing now that these ungrateful brats were never taught manners and fail to see any need for them. No eye contact (are they all on the spectrum?!?), no please, no thank you, and total disregard for anything/anyone that came before their arrival. Customer service? Never heard of it. Basic respect? Unheard of. Hopefully I’ll never have to go to a SNF. I am always shocked when a younger person treats me like a human being. SMFH

Many people force themselves to act courteously and thoughtfully on the unconscious premise that there will eventually be a sweet harvest (reciprocal consideration) for the kindness they have sown in Life. When the years pile up and they see they're not going to get this sweet return for their lifelong efforts, they grow bitter and, as they see it, "No more Mr. Nice Guy" because Mr. Nice Guy has been cheated out of his due (in their estimation).

Many people (I’d argue more than ever) never try. There’s another group that it never occurs to, to ever consider anyone else, period. I fear this latter group has increased exponentially in the last 20 years. As our culture continues to break down under a fascist dictatorship, I am preparing for complete anomie.

It's also the case that older people have to deal on a daily basis with health challenges, failing eyesight, failing hearing, and any number of other indignities which aging bestows on us. In the freshness of youth, we have a certain hope and patience because we know we have a whole lifetime ahead of us for things to get better; in age, we sense the end coming, and each challenge and disability seems like another step closer to the grave, which makes many people lash out in a kind of angry despair rather than to reach into themselves and be kind--they no longer have the patience to deal with others' shortcomings.

You’d have thought that ugly and plain old people would be mellow and magnanimous in old age because they don’t have to go through perhaps the most gruelling aspect of ageing - losing your looks. But no - look at Trump, for example, but also many others. They’re spared the very worst aspect of old age and yet they’re the worst ones. When I think of the truly beautiful, I find almost all of them were good-hearted and kindly when they became elderly, despite the fact that they go through a much, much harder old age than the lucky ones who didn’t have looks to lose in the first place.

Gee, I don’t know. Stephen Miller, Lauren Boebert, MTG ….plenty nasty and not old. I’m an elder gay and my contemporaries and I are pretty respectful and well mannered (though I do plenty of bitching in private)
