I recall the GOP antipathy toward mail-in voting actually starting in 2012 when the election result seemed closer and in doubt / up for grabs and then the mail-in votes helped Obama more than they helped Romney. Similar in 2016, we knew it was over electorally but then Hillary’s margin in the popular vote got better and better as the mail-in vote totals helped her and hurt Trump. That seemed to really get under Trump’s skin, losing the popular vote and believing that those mail-in votes “stole it” from him.
