Your cherry-picked interpretation of the Second Amendment is utter bullshit. [italic]A well regulated militia, necessary for the protection of a free state,[/italic] the right to bear arms shall not be infringed. In 1789, this was referring to arms bearing by what we know of today as our military — which did not yet exist in 1789.

The problem with this thread is that many are listing actions/behaviors that are already illegal; the laws, though, are poorly or inconsistently enforced.

[quote] Kill animal shelters
What's the alternative? Millions of animals slowly starving to death because there are simply not enough people willing and able to care for them? Or send them out into the wild and let some other animal solve the problem? Or is the alternative some fantasy where every single animal finds a loving home? Really would love to know what the alternative is.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 31, 2025 9:57 PM |
I agree with R18 e-bikes on sidewalks or boardwalks are very dangerous. They're not really the proper place for e-bikes in addition to the fact that so many have caused fires. On New York City alone there was something like over 240 fires caused by e-bikes in 2024.

Loud, obnoxious mufflers on cars -- most of which are under-powered shit boxes with 100hp four-cylinder engines. Yeah, we're all real impressed you drive a beat-up Civic hatchback that should have been sent to the junkyard years ago.

This thread is a great, great example of why the average person should not be able to pass laws about anything. Much too much, I don't like this thing or that thing, there oughter be a law. 99.9% of the time, that law would be idiotic and nobody should ever, ever pass it.

by Anonymous | reply 52 | August 31, 2025 11:17 PM |
R52 I agree 100% but I would add all tax breaks, tax all income, have a point where low income people don't pay taxes but above that all income gets taxes, no free ride for religions, children, your other taxes, they are all loop holes that people take advantage of.

To obtain a real estate salesperson license in New York, you must complete a 77-hour pre-licensing course.
To become a licensed cosmetologist in New York State, you must complete a 1,000-hour approved course of study.
Well, being a good parent is way harder than being a cosmetologist or selling real estate. I would make it illegal to become a parent without taking a 1,000-hour parenting course first.

Modified mufflers - motorcycles, cars - I don't care. It's a public nuisance because YOU want to make a lot of noise.
It's antisocial behavior meant to annoy.
Anything in that category also fits - those stupid coal huffers (?sp), loud music from vehicles, I'm sure there are others.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | September 1, 2025 3:56 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 58 | September 1, 2025 4:04 AM |
R54 - you really don't need a 1000 hours - but you do need online courses every few months for the first 5 years. That would help a LOT.
I'd say 20 hours would go a looong way for newborns - and BOTH parents have to take it.

Demisexual is a good one. People use it when they want to feel special.

Lying on TV. Hear me out - there needs to be an accuracy score based on pundits' previous statements on TV. That accuracy score should follow them.
But it's just an opinion? Well - opinions can be wrong.
Instead they just allow the same lying assholes on over and over and over again. A pundit is an EXPERT - if you're wrong or stating lies - then you are NOT a pundit. You are a lying asshole being propped up by media.
And of course Republicans are 95% of those I'm talking about.

by Anonymous | reply 73 | September 1, 2025 2:49 PM |
Stomping on the floor instead of walking like a normal person if you have downstairs neighbors. I have been driven to panic attacks by neighbors who have to let everyone in the building know every step they take. It is SO GRATING. So yes, it should be considered noise pollution and therefore illegal
by Anonymous | reply 74 | September 1, 2025 2:49 PM |
R73 - fairness doctrine doesn't cut it when one side has to real-time check all the lies on the other side. Both sides should have their opinions, but they need to be based in some reality.
That's what Republicans want to do - is take away all objectivity, data and reason - because it always flies in the face of their fucked up ideas and they KNOW it.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | September 1, 2025 2:59 PM |
R74 - I hear you - so many people walk heel-toe in apartments like they're on the street. So many people were raised in houses and never thought about it.
But you should walk more on the top of your feet in an apartment. You can hear the difference straight away.
In one of my last condos, people were required to put rugs down to also minimize the noise - particularly if they were foot stompers.
I honestly don't think most people have explained to them the difference between heel-toe walking and how you should walk in an apartment. Of course, some fuckers just don't care.

I don’t know OP, in my neighborhood of NY it’s those fucking motorized scooters that fly down the sidewalks driven by kids and stoned teenagers running down old people and dogs. If one ever touches me that kid won’t be long for this world. And the delivery guys everywhere not paying attention. I don’t understand how they aren’t constantly dying. And why the fuck does every third car have a TLC plate. Does half the fucking city drive for Uber?

by Anonymous | reply 82 | September 1, 2025 6:23 PM |
R82 Well when you put out 8th grade intellect, reason, and argument, you get served that in return. It’s giving C+ philosophy but wants to be treated like a Princeton grad. No sir or ma’am or they.

It should be illegal for anyone with an IQ under 100 to reproduce. Or go to college. Or serve in elected or appointed positions in the U.S. government (I'm lookin' at you, DJT!).
It should be illegal for Congressfolk to invest in stocks and bonds or take money from lobbyists.
It should be illegal to get a driver's license unless a driver can pass a 100-question exam similar to the one I had to pass to receive my German driver's license. Keep the dumb mfers off the roads.
Make it illegal for CEOs and other C-suite types to earn more than 16 times their workers' salaries. It's not illegal to make more in Japan, but that's their customary limit.
Hell's bells, I'm just getting started! Oh well -- I better stop, because I'm above the legal limit.
