Why Melania isn't on "Vanity Fair" cover : "She doesn’t have time to be sitting in a photo shoot"

First lady Melania Trump "laughed" at a request from Vanity Fair last month to appear on the cover of the magazine, according to the New York Post.

Vanity Fair editors reportedly fumed over the possibility of Trump on the cover, with one editor telling the Daily Mail there would be a "mass exodus" of staffers if it happened. The outlet added that several anonymous employees warned of a "meltdown" if global editorial director Mark Guiducci followed through with his idea, but the first lady appears to have bigger priorities.

"She doesn’t have time to be sitting in a photo shoot," a source familiar with Trump’s thinking told the Post's Miranda Devine.

"Her priorities as first lady are far more important," the source continued to the Post. "These people don’t deserve her anyway."

The first lady has been working to support children in foster care, combat cyberbullying and address opioid abuse, among other causes. On Wednesday, she called for more "preemptive intervention" to identify potential school shooters, and she recently wrote a "peace letter" to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"I love this because she is showing the grace that could have epitomized the cover of Vanity Fair but now never will," Fox News host Emily Compagno said Thursday on "Outnumbered."

Trump was excluded from Vanity Fair and Vogue, which are both published by Condé Nast, during her husband’s first presidency, despite both magazines frequently spotlighting past first ladies. She did appear on the cover of Vanity Fair Mexico in 2017.

Former first lady Michelle Obama appeared on Vogue's cover three times during President Barack Obama’s two terms in office, and former first lady Jill Biden landed two Vogue covers during President Joe Biden’s term.

Condé Nast did not immediately respond to a request for comment by Fox News Digital.

by Anonymousreply 4August 31, 2025 4:07 AM

I wonder what her face looks like when she laughs. Her eyes must disappear.

by Anonymousreply 5August 31, 2025 4:10 AM

Why be on a magazine’s cover now, when she’s graced the centerfolds of so many others’ in the past already? lol

by Anonymousreply 6August 31, 2025 4:15 AM

Is she transitioning in that photo?

by Anonymousreply 7August 31, 2025 4:35 AM

Mark Guiducci needs to be fired then.

Rule #1 - Know your audience. MAGA is not reading Vanity Fair. Stop trying to get cheap publicity for the failing magazine with a polarizing figure.

Also - cover requires an interview and she can't support Trump and all his bullshit and she doesn't want to answer for it.

by Anonymousreply 10August 31, 2025 4:42 AM

[quote]She did appear on the cover of Vanity Fair Mexico in 2017.

That's fucking hilarious.

MAGA doesn't read. it watches YouTube and FOX notnews

by Anonymousreply 12August 31, 2025 5:19 AM

What a bizarre excuse for them to choose. Melania notoriously doesn't do crap as First Lady. Laziest First Lady Ever.

by Anonymousreply 13August 31, 2025 5:24 AM

Will cover shot be artful nude? No?

All that plastic surgery for all those years, and STILL the babushka genes are fighting like Alien to burst out and take her over.

What's that old Randy Travis song--"It’s Just a Matter of Time"?

So many buildings to design!

by Anonymousreply 23August 31, 2025 11:49 AM

Over the years, Vanity Fair has emphasized her husband's default setting: outrageous lying. They also did not join whatever clamor for her there may have been in the weeks right after the election. She thinks this is a burn.

by Anonymousreply 24August 31, 2025 6:06 PM

R24 She's not wrong by any means.

Regardless, it appears she may receive widowed status sooner than expected.

by Anonymousreply 28September 1, 2025 5:40 AM

I didn't know Jones left Vanity Fair. Has the new editor gone back to the high-end glossy covers or are they still producing the sparse, drab, poorly lit covers?

by Anonymousreply 29September 1, 2025 5:46 AM

[QUOTE]Trump was excluded from Vanity Fair and Vogue, which are both published by Condé Nast, during her husband’s first presidency, despite both magazines frequently spotlighting past first ladies.

This is a half truth. That's because she refused to sit for an interview as other First Ladies had. She was offered during the first administration. I guess she doesn't think her English is good enough for an unscripted, unrehearsed interview.

by Anonymousreply 30September 1, 2025 10:05 AM

Of course she's too busy. Melania dedicates every July to December diligently giving a fuck about Chreestmas.

by Anonymousreply 31September 1, 2025 10:26 AM

Vanity Fair is not important in zeitgeist. Who cares if Mel is on the cover or not. I think she should have been on the Vogue cover. Vogue in kind of important but also very trashy. Just like Mel.

by Anonymousreply 32September 1, 2025 10:35 AM

Weren't they all bitching because she never appeared on the magazine covers during Trump's first term?

by Anonymousreply 33September 1, 2025 10:35 AM

I was just going to post that R33! She and her great big fat husband complained regularly over the past decade, that none of the magazines would have her. She desperately wants reputable magazine covers (Vanity Fair Mexico is not a reputable magazine in comparison to US versions) but nobody wants her. Maybe they should think about why that is.

Melania knows that the liberal legacy media (TV, radio, newspapers, magazines) is dying, so it doesn't matter what they say/think/do anymore.

by Anonymousreply 35September 1, 2025 11:49 AM

I think she wanted to avoid the furore from those objecting to her presence on the cover.

by Anonymousreply 36September 2, 2025 8:27 AM

I'd love to know what she actually does as First Lady on a daily basis.

It's easy for her office to list the campaigns she supports, but that doesn't translate to actual work that she does herself. It likely means that her staff do 99% of it and her 1% is sitting in a weekly 30-minute meeting with them nodding while they update her, and she maybe signs a few things.

I just don't believe she really does anything herself without an adviser. Her English is relatively poor (as shown even in rehearsed speeches) which means it's hard to think she could work on anything remotely complicated in English. She also doesn't strike me as the type to generate new ideas. I can't imagine saying to her staff something like: "We really need to shine a light on X and I think we could achieve that by doing Y." It's pretty clear her staff do all her thinking and planning for her.

She's not alone in that. Trump himself has experts who do the hard work behind the scenes as well.

It seems Mel quietly did some restorations and renovations in White House, her first time around, and a tasteful and historically appropriate manner. Likely through experts, of course. Everyone hated her rose garden revamp. I didn't think it was disastrous. Now it is, but that's the Orange Turd's work. I think the tennis pavilion is nice enough. Not offensive. I don't remember any real social work. Just the opposite - Melania communicating the wrong message or feeble gobbledygook messages. Mel's christmas decors were weird, but Jill's were tack as fuck and also overdone. I agree with Melania's fuck christmas slap down. In that the ENTIRE White House shouldn't be made into themed rooms. For what? Put up a tree and do one or two rooms. Then put garlands here and there and some arrangements. Done.

Yes, Sean Hannity whispers those pearls of wisdom in her ear every night before he leaves her bedroom.
