Gena Davis got her audition because the producers were considering models. The character was to appear in lingerie, distracting Dorothy, and Davis had just done a Victoria’s Secret ad.

Tootsie is so overrated.
I saw it once, it was kind of funny, but then comes a tsunami of praise comparing it to the actually brilliant "Some Like it Hot"!
Mostly Tootsie suffers from Dustin Hoffman's performance as "Dorothy". It's just bad.
