Living nepos who actually deserve their success anyway

There are actually some nepo babies who are so good they pretty much deserve their success. (I don;t think anyone's going to add homely Ben Platt or homelier Beanie Feldstein to this list.)

Jane Fonda is perhaps the foremost of these, along with Jeff Bridges and Anjelica Huston. But among younger people I would add:

Margaret Qualley

Colin Hanks (not a star, but a superb character actor who always done fine work)

Enrique Iglesias

by Anonymousreply 63September 1, 2025 3:01 AM

He never became a big star, but I always enjoyed Campbell Scott’s work.

by Anonymousreply 1August 29, 2025 9:41 PM

Paloma Picasso

by Anonymousreply 2August 29, 2025 9:42 PM

Liza.

by Anonymousreply 3August 29, 2025 9:43 PM

I think Ethan Peck is excellent, and deserves even better work than he's getting in "ST: Strange New Worlds."

by Anonymousreply 4August 29, 2025 9:44 PM

Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal

Alex Wolff

Sofia Coppola

Laura Dern

Maya Hawke

Dakota Johnson

by Anonymousreply 5August 29, 2025 9:45 PM

Michael Douglas

by Anonymousreply 6August 29, 2025 9:46 PM

Eve Hewson.

by Anonymousreply 7August 29, 2025 9:48 PM

Jamie Lee Curtis - like her or not.

by Anonymousreply 8August 29, 2025 9:53 PM

R7, I just came to say I was shocked to learn who Eve Hewson was. I didn't even get time to hate her. Fell in love with her immediately on The Knick

by Anonymousreply 9August 29, 2025 9:53 PM

Martha Plimpton

by Anonymousreply 10August 29, 2025 9:54 PM

Tyne Daly. Love her.

by Anonymousreply 11August 29, 2025 9:57 PM

Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave

by Anonymousreply 12August 29, 2025 9:58 PM

Angelina Jolie

by Anonymousreply 13August 29, 2025 10:01 PM

Jack Jones

by Anonymousreply 14August 29, 2025 10:14 PM

Benedict Cumberbatch

by Anonymousreply 15August 29, 2025 10:24 PM

Lynn Redgrave and Jack Jones are dead.

by Anonymousreply 16August 29, 2025 10:27 PM

Tracee Ellis Ross

This one's a hot take, but Jack Quaid.

by Anonymousreply 17August 29, 2025 10:38 PM

r17, Jack Quaid is adorable. Of course the nincompooperai of DL hate him.

by Anonymousreply 18August 30, 2025 4:43 PM

Beau and Jeff Bridges

by Anonymousreply 19August 30, 2025 4:49 PM

Jack Quaid was good in The Boys and Companion. He's a little one-note but he's good in those projects.

by Anonymousreply 20August 30, 2025 6:56 PM

The Redgraves.

by Anonymousreply 21August 30, 2025 7:09 PM

Agree with Eve Hewson. She's a fantastic actress.

by Anonymousreply 22August 30, 2025 7:12 PM

I had no idea who Eve Hewson was.

by Anonymousreply 23August 30, 2025 7:56 PM

Nobody springs to mind.

by Anonymousreply 24August 30, 2025 7:59 PM

Bridget Fonda

by Anonymousreply 25August 30, 2025 8:00 PM

Rob Reiner

by Anonymousreply 26August 30, 2025 8:08 PM

Colin Hanks

by Anonymousreply 27August 30, 2025 8:46 PM

I'm so tired of this nepo baby thing. My plumber inherited the business from his dad. I guess I should fire him and hire another plumber who has no family experienced in his trade?

by Anonymousreply 28August 30, 2025 9:24 PM

Lucas Hedges is very underappreciated as an actor (despite having already an Oscar nomination).

by Anonymousreply 29August 30, 2025 9:30 PM

R28 it seems to be part of the war on expertise.

by Anonymousreply 30August 31, 2025 12:02 AM

Dakota Johnson is a very talented actress. I've really enjoyed her work.

by Anonymousreply 31August 31, 2025 1:39 AM

Candice Bergen

by Anonymousreply 32August 31, 2025 2:14 AM

Second Candice Bergen, who i love. Also,,her celebrity father worked an articulated doll. Everything went fine.

Conversely, much as i admire her acting, each of the seven daughters of Meryls Streep should be tarred.

by Anonymousreply 33August 31, 2025 2:18 AM

Nepo Baby Emotional Support Thread.

Take a nice long hit of Copium. Yes, you would have been successful even without your rich, famous and well connected family.

by Anonymousreply 34August 31, 2025 2:21 AM

Lucie Arnaz

Liza Minnelli

All the Lassies

by Anonymousreply 35August 31, 2025 4:38 AM

Colin Hanks is a DREADFUL actor.

by Anonymousreply 36August 31, 2025 4:40 AM

R28 the whole point of the thread is that nepotism isn't always a bad thing that allows people with connections to thrive in industries they have no talent or knowledge for. Retard.

by Anonymousreply 37August 31, 2025 4:46 AM

I think r28 and r37 agree on a lot more than either one is willing to admit.

by Anonymousreply 38August 31, 2025 5:11 AM

Mia Farrow

by Anonymousreply 39August 31, 2025 5:21 AM

Mamie Gummer

by Anonymousreply 40August 31, 2025 5:23 AM

Mia is bitch.

by Anonymousreply 41August 31, 2025 5:53 AM

[quote]Colin Hanks is a DREADFUL actor.

I love him. He was just as goode as Matthew Goode in The Offer.

by Anonymousreply 42August 31, 2025 6:37 AM

Another vote for Dakota Johnson, though I think it helps that she couldn't be more different than her parents. Eve Hewson isn't terrible, but she seems a bit one note. I don't think the Streeplet on Guilded Age is bad, but her character is really boring

by Anonymousreply 43August 31, 2025 9:58 AM

Laura Dern

by Anonymousreply 44August 31, 2025 6:19 PM

Drew Barrymore. She has just simply put in the hours and has survived the celebrity ringer for the last forty-six years.

by Anonymousreply 45August 31, 2025 6:20 PM

[quote]has survived the celebrity ringer

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 46August 31, 2025 6:24 PM

Exhaustive lists of celebrity kids who joined the business. Some good, many forgotten.

I believe Nancy Sinatra is still kicking.

by Anonymousreply 47August 31, 2025 6:30 PM

I like Nancy Sinatra because she's supposed to be really nice and HATES Trump!

The nepo thing is tough because thousands and thousands of very talented actors never even get representation from good agents who can get them seen for roles that build a career and many if not most give up and quit.

Talent is expected and not hard to find, but getting positioned to save a decade or more of struggling to get a decent agent is the key that allows nepo cases to thrive and bypass the destructive struggle to just get on the board.

by Anonymousreply 48September 1, 2025 12:14 AM

Rashida Jones, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Aniston. Kendall Jenner is 5'10" and beautiful. She could have easily made it as a model without the Kardashian connection. Same for Gigi Hadid...5'11 and gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 49September 1, 2025 12:39 AM

Modeling is one of the few industries where being a nepo baby isn't helpful or harmful. Modeling agencies frequently have open calls, do national scouting and if you have an in-demand look, they will represent you.

by Anonymousreply 50September 1, 2025 12:47 AM

Maya Hawke

Sydney Chandler

Taylor Dearden

Fiona Dourif

Lewis Pullman

Hannah Einbinder

Jack Quaid

Margaret Qualley

Zoey Deutsch

Lily-Rose Depp

These are all good actors. Would they have made it without connections? Who knows. But they’re not just running on fumes.

by Anonymousreply 51September 1, 2025 12:54 AM

This will get me eviscerated here, but Gwyneth Paltrow. Yes, she's an absolute shitstorm in most aspects of her life, but I've enjoyed the majority of her performances even so.

by Anonymousreply 52September 1, 2025 1:14 AM

Please dont use the "R" word, R37.

by Anonymousreply 53September 1, 2025 1:25 AM

Don’t know her name but I love Bryan Cranston’s daughter on The Pitt.

by Anonymousreply 54September 1, 2025 1:31 AM

[quote]I'm so tired of this nepo baby thing

The disdain for "nepo babies" is one of those quirky things that is a big deal on DL and a huge "who cares" to almost everyone else. But because DL never, ever tires of anything ("Dead to me" is hilarious! Catherine Zeta-Jones is forever 32!), we can expect it to stay around until the sun burns out.

by Anonymousreply 55September 1, 2025 1:39 AM

Isabella Rossellini

Jennifer Ehle

Lily Rabe

by Anonymousreply 56September 1, 2025 1:48 AM

She’s not a nepo baby per se, but her sister gave her her first acting job, Taissa Farmiga.

by Anonymousreply 57September 1, 2025 1:50 AM

Rashida Jones, for sure.

by Anonymousreply 58September 1, 2025 1:53 AM

[Quote] Don’t know her name but I love Bryan Cranston’s daughter on The Pitt.

That’s Taylor Dearden. She’s very good.

by Anonymousreply 59September 1, 2025 2:07 AM

Liza

Jane Fonda

Sofia Coppola

Jared Harris

Michael Douglas

Laura Dern

Isabella Rosellini

by Anonymousreply 60September 1, 2025 2:15 AM

Laura Dern and the Gylenthal siblings

AHEM—did you skip someone?

by Anonymousreply 62September 1, 2025 2:29 AM

She’s obnoxious and vapid, but she has talent.
