It is quite possible in today's celebrity circus a person can be celebrated in media, but actually be uneducated and from the wrong side of the tracks.
No class, no education

Yes there are plenty of them OP.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 29, 2025 1:55 PM |
Yes, OP, what's your point? Just desperate to post something?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 29, 2025 1:57 PM |
op is full of unique insights
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 29, 2025 1:58 PM |
That’s pretty much the rule since the beginning of show business, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 29, 2025 2:10 PM |
OP thinks all those actors who played doctors and lawyers with Ivy League educations actually came from that background in real life.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 29, 2025 2:24 PM |
What of it?!
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 29, 2025 2:41 PM |
Yes, OP, but we're tired of talking about the White House.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 29, 2025 2:42 PM |
That’s the majority, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 29, 2025 2:43 PM |
Thurber beat you to it by roughly a century OP

I do see posts on DL with people blathering about how internet celebs and influencers should be in college getting an education, and what will they do when their looks fade? etc. Many are making a lot of money, and whatever they choose to do later, they'll have the money to do it (or do nothing, if they feel like it). They're not hurting anybody. It's a form of show business and they're successful at it.

I think one of the reasons that the 1970s "Upstairs, Downstairs" had the production values that it did was because a number of the people associated with the show actually came from that social class, or adjacent to it. If you watch crap made today, you can tell the schmucks playing in it don't have the foggiest idea of what they are doing- even stuff that they should have been coached on, like how to correctly pronounce the name of a bottle of wine.

OP, did you post this because of the verbal altercation at the US Open tennis where that fat Latvian lost to American Taylor Townsend, then yelled, “you have no class, you have no education”? She lost it because of the “rule” that a player must apologize when they get a point because of a let cord. It’s a custom not a rule, btw, and nothing to lose your mind over.
Taylor is playing singles tonight and I hope ESPN will show a little. She doesn’t do it too often anymore, but Taylor is the ONLY serve and volley player left in tennis. She said she developed her game that way after admiring Martina Navratilova’s play on YouTube videos. I’m a fan, Taylor!

just so everyone is aware - OP is referring to the comment some white tennis player said to a black tennis player yesterday after the black tennis player was upset that she lost the match.
They got into an argument - and those words were said. That's all I know and I really don't care.

R10 and everyone, educated used to mean, and still means to some extent, being sophisticated. That doesn’t mean adding someone’s formal school education up because some of the dumbest people I’ve ever known have masters degrees. If you have no knowledge of the world around you regardless of a degree, you’re pretty stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 29, 2025 3:06 PM |
R13, the black player WON THE MATCH. The white one threw the tantrum. Or do you have an agenda, MAGA?

When I read OP’s terrifying observation, I clutched my pearls so hard, they came apart like Gladys on “The Gilded Age.”

Oh, I see, it's one of those threads where we're given no clue what it's about, and have to figure it out or be told by other posters.

Middle class
Don't speak of it
Savoir faire
We reek of it
Some were born with rags and patches
But we use dollar bills for matches

R13, see r12 who actually got it right.

R19 - I have R12 blocked so I didn't see that comment.
I will agree that Latvian white player looked 'husky' and almost chunky for someone who is running on a tennis court hours every single day.

She’s a baker, R23, and seems to have eaten most of her cakes. Look it up.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 29, 2025 4:11 PM |
Yes, R12. No matter the snide remarks here by the I'm Sure They Never Get Out Of Te House Crowd, the comment was about a white girl saying sass to a black girl. Of course here we cannot demean any black. But the white girl was totally wrong, the black girl triumphed.

Taylor took out Mirra Andreeva the fifth seed last night in straight sets. I like Mirra a lot, but was glad Taylor won. Other players have voiced support for her after the stupid incident the other day, Sabalenka should get her head out of her ass and stop defending Ostapenko.
MAGA returns at R25. This isn’t white girl vs black girl, it’s about US Open Tennis.

Things have reached a pretty pass
When someone pretty lower class
Graceless and vulgar, uninspired
Can be respected and admired
