Pauly Shore: ’90s Star Breaks Down In Tears As He Reveals Shock Health Diagnosis
The 57-year-old comedian only discovered his condition after getting a preventive body scan on a whim.
Pauly Shore is still reeling after discovering he had a benign tumor inside his pancreas during a preventive body scan several months ago.
Recording from a hospital bed, Shore explained how he decided to get a preventive scan on a whim, only to learn he had a small tumor that doctors told him could have been in his body for as long as “15 to 20 years.” It’s like a devil that’s in me,” he joked to a nurse in his pre-op message. “Get it out.”
Though the tumor didn’t pose an immediate emergency, the actor said his diagnosis had an intense affect on his mental health.

Whenever I ask physician friends about preventative full body scans, they all say not to do it for this exact reason. Our bodies have all sorts of benign "abnormalities" within and finding out about them causes a lot of mental drama and unnecessary treatments/operations (see: Shore, Pauly). They say the regular recommended health checks for your age/gender/existing conditions along with just keeping tabs on how you feel is enough. I've asked them about it because I am tempted to do it. As yet, I have not and probably won't.

Sometimes you find out about these things even without a full body scan, r11. I was in the emergency room in 2008 and while I was there they did a mandatory chest x ray and found a cyst in my lung. It’s benign. It gets scanned every few years and is still benign.

I was living in Houston when the Superbowl was held there in 2004. A news station had a reporter staked outside a bar that was rumored to have celebrities visiting before the event. Some guy was walking up, and the reporter was in breathless anticipation—who is this and will he talk to us?!? It turned out to be Pauly Shore, I kid you not, so ridiculously funny. They cut back to the studio.
