A Psychiatrist explains what's driving their hate and why they act the way they do. Not as simple as them just being Rubes. Very insightful.
Noam Chomsky in the 90s - "There are other things to worry about too, like the fact that the United States is such an extremely fundamentalist country–and also such an unusually frightened one….
[There is a lot of] extreme irrationality and fear… in the U.S. population.
And that’s a very dangerous phenomenon–because that kind of deep irrationality can readily be whipped up by demagogues, you know, Newt Gingriches. These guys can whip up fear, hatred, they can appeal to fundamentalist urges–and that’s been scaring the rest of the world for a while… For example, if you recall the Republican National Convention in 1992, it opened with a ‘God and Country’ rally, which was televised and seen around the world. In Europe particularly it really sent chills up people’s spines–because they remember Hitler’s Nuremberg rallies, at least older people do, and it had something of that tone. Well, the Republicans were able to insulate the Convention from it that time around and keep most of that stuff confined to the first night, but in the future they might not be able to do that–in the future those people might take the Convention over, in which case we’d be very close to some American version of fascism; it may not be Hitler Germany, but it’ll be bad enough….
Actually, I think that the United States has been in kind of a pre-fascist mood for years–and we’ve been lucky that every leader who’s come along has been a crook…. But if somebody shows up who’s kind of a Hitler-type–just wants power, no corruption, straight, makes it all sound appealing, and says, ‘We want power’–well, then we’ll all be in very bad trouble. Now, we haven’t had the right person yet in the United States, but sooner or later somebody’s going to fill that position–and if so, it will be highly dangerous."
And in 2010 - “The United States is extremely lucky that no honest, charismatic figure has arisen. Every charismatic figure is such an obvious crook that he destroys himself, like McCarthy or Nixon or the evangelist preachers. If somebody comes along who is charismatic and honest this country is in real trouble because of the frustration, disillusionment, the justified anger and the absence of any coherent response. What are people supposed to think if someone says ‘I have got an answer, we have an enemy’? There it was the Jews. Here it will be the illegal immigrants and the blacks. We will be told that white males are a persecuted minority. We will be told we have to defend ourselves and the honor of the nation. Military force will be exalted. People will be beaten up. This could become an overwhelming force. And if it happens it will be more dangerous than Germany. The United States is the world power. Germany was powerful but had more powerful antagonists. I don’t think all this is very far away. If the polls are accurate it is not the Republicans but the right-wing Republicans, the crazed Republicans, who will sweep the next election.”

He’s too soft of a speaker for me but I got as far as fear triggers dictators since this personally likes order. But the cruelty I did not get to. Trump is doing all this crazy shit during the legislative recess to distract from that ME stuff. Are we going to see anyone rein him in or are they all Manchurian Candidates?

Thanks OP it was an additional piece to what we already observe. That cruel hypocrite Stephen Miller’s people (Jewish) fled the russian empire in the 1900’s for safety and prosperity in the U S. His uncle has posted many times of his nephew’s immigrant hypocrisy.

Did you do this in college? Teacher was not entertaining or the personality you like so you left the class room after 15 minutes?

What he is basically saying is MAGA types see the world in black and white, they like highly structured world with a power figure at the top or "Daddy" type. They like strict rules and someone to tell them right from wrong. So police force, military type of society structure appeals to them.
Now add that they are mostly white, which used to be the dominate group in power. As the country has changed, this is a threat to what they see as the natural order. People of color, LGBT, and other minority group threaten that power. Their automatic rightful place as they see it. So Make America Great Again really means put us back their former state of dominance. The only way to do that is push those people down any way they can. Fear of cultural dethronement is what they are afraid of.
That is why they dont need to see a better quality of life, or make more economic power, what they want is the return of social status. If you push the others down, it's just as good. It's about relative status. That's why they revel in pushing others down, they have been marinating in that anger and resentment.
This is where Steven Miller comes in, he's not particularly good at anything but he was primarily strong expressing anger and bile towards other groups. What he's know for is what they revel in. They celebrate it. It's the only thing that makes them feel good. That is why they don't care about policy, they cheer crulity. Trump showing off cruelty is what appeals most to them.
When Trump is threatened, no matter how minor it is, or how justified, they personally feel threatened. Because they see him as a representative of their feelings. If he looks victimized, they feel even closer to him. This is why after his conviction, their support for him went even higher. This is how they brought other groups like Hispanic men into it as well. The men felt superior to women. And that social status was being threatened. The same for White women.
Their social status fear kicks in this authoritarian leaning preference. So they march to the tune of the Pied Piper Trump, and if that takes them to the place of dismantling democracy, then so be it. As long as they find their way back on top. It's a whole psychology of a movement it's not just Trump. He just knows how to use it.

The sword cuts both ways, OP.
Take for instance, "liberal" group Queers 4 Palestine and their open antisemitism and shutting down of Pride Parades.
America is an angry, cruel place, no matter what side you're on.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 27, 2025 1:40 PM |
Sorry r14, not playing both sides are bad game. The queers 4 Palestine is NOT the vast majorly of the Democratic party. MAGA IS THE MARJORY of the REPUBLICAN party. And even Non-MAGA Republicans still fall in line with MAGA ideology. That just is not true for the other side.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 29, 2025 2:57 AM |
R16, R15 is using fear triggers: those OTHER people (weird, ambiguous, foreign-sympathizing) are coming for YOU (nice, normal Americans, “ordinary” gay people).
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 29, 2025 3:12 AM |
Thanks for summing it up, r12.
It’s complete bullshit.
MAGAs are cruel and vindictive because for three decades they’ve been fed the line that democrats, liberals, people of color, and immigrants are destroying America. This has been done by Fox News. They have specifically engineered their “news coverage” to make white working class people hate democrats. It worked. They hate us with a passion and would like nothing more than to do us harm.
Fox News did this to drive working class whites to the polls. It worked. They go out and vote AGAINST the Democrat, even if they’re not voting FOR the Republican per se. (In other words, they vote for whatever Republican is on the ballot — to defeat the Democrat.)
Trump is a lazy and selfish man, and there’s a lot he doesn’t know. And he’s also childish and often makes a fool of himself.
But he was one gift. He knows how to manipulate stupid people.
These decades of Fox News indoctrination got these millions of poor whites SO READY, so primed, for him to exploit them. All he had to do was, embody everything democrats hate and the republicans would happily march with him into Hell. And so that’s what he did. Every storm of outrage over Trump’s ludicrous statements in liberal media was like music to their ears — they LOVED him for it. Just as he knew they would.
By the way, I’m not saying this is the only reason Trump is cruel. Part of it is that he’s simply a bad person who enjoys harming others. So he stepped into the role of champion of the Fox News viewer quite easily.
I’ve said this many times before. Trump is the symptom. Fox News is the disease. Fox News WANTS a deeply polarized America. They want us hating each other.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 29, 2025 3:23 AM |
R18 both of those cant be true. There is not conflict between what the psychologist says in the video and what you just said about Trump and Fox. His explanation is why, yours is about the tools or vehicle of how to get there.

[quote]I’ve said this many times before. Trump is the symptom. Fox News is the disease. Fox News WANTS a deeply polarized America. They want us hating each other.
Please, Democrats are the ones who have been whipping up hatred and polarizing Americans with their anti-men/anti-white/anti-USA/anti-capitalism/anti-Christianity rhetoric via their extensive propaganda machine (aka ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, NPR, PBS, Hollywood, Broadway, print media).
Democrats are socialists/globalists now. They want to destabilize and eventually destroy America, which they have no allegiance to and which they believe has become too rich and powerful. They merely view the USA as something for other lesser countries to plunder.
And they wonder why they're losing the trust of Americans, who are learning every day that Democrats project a lot. Everything they accuse Republicans of, they're actually guilty of it themselves -- like gerrymandering. I live in Massachusetts, in which 36% of the votes went to Trump and yet the state has no Republican representation in Congress. That's bullshit! This state is being run (into the ground) by socialist grifters.
Also, being tough on crime, deporting illegal immigrants, and expecting able-bodied people to work is not cruel. 😂
