Why did nobody ever tell me this is just a movie about a social climbing slut? I mean, she’s banging two brothers, one of whom is 31 years older than her!
I’m watching Sabrina (1954) for the first time

I was also surprised to learn it’s no Roman Holiday.
Just wait until the end. Bogart was all wrong for this and it wouldn’t have been any better with Bacall.

It's funny that Sabrina is supposed to be from Long Island, but she talks like she's from 'anotha lahnd.'

It’s not a very good film, really.
Bogart didn’t like Hepburn stealing all the attention. He told the press, “She’s alright, if you don’t mind twelve takes.”

I was going to mention that, r1: that it’s no Roman Holiday, which (a) was way more delightful by far and (b) had a satisfying ending to the love story. Bogart was all wrong for his role, not least of all because of his age. Bill Holden was gorgeous as usual and gave a good performance; however it would have been nice if they’d found somebody 10 or 15 years younger.

It is jarring. I completely agree with you about Bill Holden.
She had an affair with him. He was very married at the time, and I don’t think he was in a hurry to leave his wife, but she told herself that she had to end it because he had a vasectomy.

Meanwhile, Edith Head’s ripping off Hubert de Givenchy’s couture designs for yet another Oscar.
HERE’S what the old dyke REALLY created for the film:

They don’t come much gayer than you, r6.

You may need to sit down OP, but Breakfast At Tiffany's is about a WHORE!

R2 Audrey Hepburn always had that Euro hybrid accent in every movie, even when she's supposed to be playing Americans like in SABRINA, BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S, and WAIT UNTIL DARK. I don't know how she was Oscar-nominated for those roles.

William Holden should have played both brothers

R5 no he wanted to marry Audrey, but she refused him on account of his vasectomy

The fact that he was a married alcoholic didn’t bother her??

Gregory Peck was the perfect costar for Audrey in Roman Holiday. Not only were they both gorgeous but genuinely seemed to like each other. That's my take, anyway.

How odd, given that she spent the first twenty-one years of her life living in different Europe countries like Belgium, the UK, and the Netherlands!
You may discover to your surprise that Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman spoke with Swedish accents when they played non-Swedes in Hollywood films. And that Arnold Schwarzenegger often played Americans but did so with an Austrian accent.

I don't care what you all say. I love Sabrina. And the reason she has that accent is that her father is British, so she probably was born in the UK.

Why does her sister Katherine have a completely different accent?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 28, 2025 1:19 AM |
She was great, but the brothers were miscast.
