Her Crystalline Shine was her secret weapon!

There is NO ALCOHOL.

Cher was only really A list respected from the early 1980s to about 1990. Other than that she's been famous and a gay icon, but not exactly Cate Blanchett in terms of prestige. The hair care ads were not that odd, all things considered among the many ups and downs of her career.

I guess their friendship didn't survive this, huh?

I think Jim Carrey did the best Lori Davis on In Living Color.

Lori was a paramedic-stylist for Hollywood hair emergencies.

[quote]"My hair was destroyed after I did ‘Miss Firecracker,’ ” Holly Hunter recalls, “and Lori saved it.” During the making of that film about three years ago, Hunter’s hair was dyed red several times, which stripped it of its moisture and sheen. So Davis restored the actress’s natural shade of brown and used deep conditioners to bring back its soft texture. “She’s been with me ever since,” Davis says. In addition to Hunter, Davis’ clients include Meryl Streep, who visits between films to have her natural pale-blond color restored; Cher, who comes in for perms, and Bette Midler, who had her hair dyed red for “Beaches” and blond for “Stella.”

But Davis’ work isn’t limited to women. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a regular at Lori Davis Hair Doctor since his “Conan the Barbarian” days. Nick Nolte insists on having Davis flown to his film locations to match his hair color and style to his role. Sean Penn and Tom Cruise drop in for trims. And “Cheers” star Ted Danson, who gets a Davis cut and conditioning every two weeks, comes in for color as well when he needs it for film work. “To make his hair look its natural shade on the big screen,” Davis says, “we have to make it a little darker than how he wears it on television."

"Abso-fucking-lutely".

Cher in The Advocate when asked if the Lori Davis commercials hurt her career.

by Anonymousreply 11August 27, 2025 4:26 AM

We've really lived through some exciting and wondrous times.

by Anonymousreply 12August 27, 2025 4:38 AM

Cher goes for perms...haha. That's a wig baby!!

by Anonymousreply 13August 27, 2025 4:39 AM

I feel Cher's work with Lori warranted special Emmys for them both.

by Anonymousreply 14August 27, 2025 4:48 AM

More cringe than Victoria Principal and the skincare dwarf?

by Anonymousreply 15August 27, 2025 5:56 AM

She's been damn-near bald since 1988.

by Anonymousreply 16August 27, 2025 6:00 AM

I couldn’t imagine why unless she really believed in the hair care line.

by Anonymousreply 17August 27, 2025 6:01 AM

I think Larry was still boozing when he did his promo.

Is Ms. Davis still with us?

She looked ... arterially challenged 35 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 19August 27, 2025 6:24 AM

I can’t find out if she’s still alive or not either. I did read something about her being 51 when these were produced.

by Anonymousreply 20August 27, 2025 2:46 PM

Wasn't there something about lawsuits, people losing their hair, etc.?

by Anonymousreply 21August 27, 2025 2:54 PM

Yes, supposedly they paid a settlement out and just kept selling the stuff.

There are a couple of old threads on this because of course there are. They provided some interesting info, but I don’t think anyone knows what happened to Lori.

Lori helped Cher during Mask when she tried to dye her hair red and it fell out. The red wig Cher wears in the movie is a Lori Davis creation.

by Anonymousreply 23August 27, 2025 5:25 PM

I wonder who she started going to after they fell out?

Lori and I could have helped each other.

by Anonymousreply 26August 27, 2025 7:39 PM

R25. Exactly and if you keep watching the second half hour of the video is Cher’s own infomercial about her skin care line or what the hell ever.

So much for her pretending like she didn’t “know what they were getting her into.”

by Anonymousreply 27August 27, 2025 8:29 PM

I'm certain Cher "helped" Lori and retained a decent cut of the profits from what was likely a huge amount of sales, as well as the profits from her own skincare line.

I bet this rivaled her movie money, or surpassed it.

by Anonymousreply 28August 28, 2025 1:59 AM

If you have dark brown hair and want red, just apply a box of the palest blonde hair color available.

by Anonymousreply 29August 28, 2025 2:05 AM

Thankyou Sydney guilaroff.
