Tasteful friends—how do you deal with THICK mattresses?
Some of the ones on the market now are 14-17 inches thick. I don’t think they will work on my platform bed because the incorporated headboard would be swallowed.
Even the less luxurious ones are 11” which is pushing it.
I wasn’t looking for a new bed.
Futon for me?

If you're using a box spring you can get rid of it and lose a few inches. But these tall mattresses are silly--nobody is sleeping deeper than 3 inches.

OP, you seem to already know an awful lot about mattresses.
Are they related to your profession somehow?

No box spring.
I still have my previous mattress in a guess room. It is 8” my current one is 11” and the ones I like are 14”or more. A crisis is looming.

Are you asking if I’m a whore, r2?
Not anymore
And I don’t know a lot about mattresses beyond what I’ve learned in a few days of shopping.

This tracks. Sheet sets advertise as being uncommonly deep - 14”. The flat sheets don’t have the width or length to make up for the increased depth

I'm a woman and not a body-builder, and I hate these mattresses with a passion. Lifting them to tuck in the fitted sheet could result in permanent back damage. And you can't turn them over and they DO wear twice as fast as those you can.
Who do these clowns think makes the bed in the majority of bedrooms in the world?

I had what was considered to be a good tempur-pedic latex mattress on my bed, but it was too high and I couldn't get sheets to fit it. I also didn't like how firm it was. One day at Costco I saw some rolled up foam mattresses for sale, only 8" high. I bought one and gave the other mattress to a friend who likes firm mattresses. And now I can fit sheets on the bed.

I think I am going to get a new bed. I was never happy with the one I have now. The slats are connected by ugly plastic strips and the mattress doesn’t cover them entirely.
Maybe this one recommended by Wirecutter. It can handle the new thick mattresses.
