Seeing her Sunday in Miami.

Cannot wait!

by Anonymousreply 1August 25, 2025 3:51 PM

This is the later career Madonna could've had without the narcissism and addiction.

by Anonymousreply 2August 25, 2025 3:55 PM

Her schtick is so tired.

Are you dumb? Did you miss the 00s. her third decade?

by Anonymousreply 4August 25, 2025 4:02 PM

She's an incredible performer and Mayhem is a fantastic album. Not surprised she's doing so well with this tour.

I didn't see her when she was in LA, but sure wish I had.

(R2, not really a Madonna fan, but Madonna was in her late 50s or so when she lost her way. I think Gaga is late 30s. Give Gaga time, she might go down the same route!)

by Anonymousreply 5August 25, 2025 4:11 PM

Honestly, I’m getting a little tired of these extravaganza tours.

They’re so loud and busy.

Maybe I’m just getting old and cranky.

by Anonymousreply 6August 25, 2025 4:35 PM

The ugliest woman in pop!

by Anonymousreply 7August 25, 2025 4:38 PM

She looks ridiculous now.

I think what R2 is referring to is that in the late 90's, early 2000's Madonna had not only critical acclaim for her music but for her acting as well. She was set to do a roll that Meryl Streep took and earned an Oscar nomination for. She worked with legendary director John Schlesinger. She then married Guy Richie and moved to England. There were so many opportunities for her to grow artistically and train at the proverbial feet of the masters. Instead, her narcissism and desire to chase relevance trumpeted over all of it.

by Anonymousreply 10August 25, 2025 5:17 PM

"... that drew sharp connections between her past and present"

Legacy tour.

by Anonymousreply 11August 25, 2025 5:21 PM

I see R10.

Yeah, I really thought Madonna was going to age wonderfully. She was doing really interesting things when she was around Gaga's age now. I never really cared for her during her "imperial phase", but from Ray of Light though Confessions (minus American Life!) I thought she was at her most interesting.

by Anonymousreply 12August 25, 2025 6:07 PM

R12, I agree with you and I think R10 is being a bit critical. Lady Gaga was struggling within, what, 5 years into her career? And then she came back with A STar is Born. But after that, all of her biggest hits (minus Abra Cadabra) are songs where she attaches herself to others. Madonna didn't need to start doing that until 2008.

by Anonymousreply 13August 25, 2025 6:13 PM

🤣🤣🤣🤣

This NEVER happened.

How embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 15August 25, 2025 7:12 PM

R14, not that poster, but she was acclaimed for the League of Their Own role. But let's be real, her best role was in Truth or Dare.

by Anonymousreply 16August 25, 2025 7:35 PM

[quote] [R14], not that poster, but she was acclaimed for the League of Their Own role.

Acclaimed? She was given acceptable notices for playing a version of herself as a baseball player. Hardly tackling Desdemona.

She has nine Razzie Awards. That’s an almost unheard of statistic.

One of the worst on-screen performers in cinema history.

by Anonymousreply 17August 25, 2025 9:38 PM

Madonna got decent reviews for Dangerous Game and Evita. She was on the oscar shortlist for Evita. Though i think if the film had been released today, she would have been nominated and possibly won.

She won the Golden Globe award which is a very prestigious award.

The Ray of Light era had her at her critically acclaimed zenith. She was finally winning Grammys for her music and awards for her film work.

by Anonymousreply 18August 25, 2025 9:49 PM

R13 that's so funny. I've actually loved Gaga's last two records. I don't really care if she's the biggest pop star around or not. That stuff doesn't matter to me at all.

I thought Chromatica was a great dance record and Mayhem is my favorite pop record in at least a decade. I listen to it almost every day, even six months after it was released.

But I also loved Madonna's Rebel Heart more than, say, Like A Virgin. So what do I know?

by Anonymousreply 19August 25, 2025 10:00 PM

17 years into Gaga’s career post-debut is “Mayehm” 17 years into Madonna’s career post-debut was “Music”.

Madonnas career was waaay bigger when you look at it that way.

by Anonymousreply 20August 25, 2025 10:09 PM

Lord.

Gaga's doing well and she's determined to apply the smarts to keep it that way as long as she can.

Madonna, whose career needs no apologists or shit-mouthed boosters to prove it, has gotten somewhat lost and her personal "style" has become rather repulsive, because she doesn't seem to be able to make herself understood anymore, as if it's no longer possible.

by Anonymousreply 21August 25, 2025 10:16 PM

[quote] She won the Golden Globe award which is a very prestigious award.

Oh, very much so!

by Anonymousreply 22August 25, 2025 11:17 PM

I believe it. Her Coachella set was almost the whole concert she was going to launch live, and it was mind blowingly good.

by Anonymousreply 23August 25, 2025 11:20 PM

It's sexist and mysognist to continue to compare Gaga and Madonna.

They are not the same performers, and Gaga is doing something wholly different than Madge did. Both are incredible performers, and yes Madge has aged, as happens when you're in your 60s, and if you're trying to stay young and relevant.

But are we comparing male singers to those who came before them? I can see comparing Harry Connick, Jr. with Sinatra, because that's a direct copycat influence, but that's not what Gaga is to Madge.

by Anonymousreply 24August 25, 2025 11:25 PM

[quote] It's sexist and mysognist to continue to compare Gaga and Madonna.

No. It’s not. And people like you using those words for every self-reported cultural crime has rendered those meaningless.

Woke is dead. Thankfully.

by Anonymousreply 25August 25, 2025 11:40 PM

What I'd like to know is 'Can Lady Gaga dance?' it's an understood thing that Madonna started that way and then segued into pop music when her acting attempts fizzled. i've never been to a gaga show but obviously there's a lot of dancing that she must rehearse the f--k out of. When does she find time to do that?

by Anonymousreply 26August 26, 2025 1:59 AM

So tiresome, the endless Gaga vs Madonna dragdown comparison.

Gaga clearly owes a LOT to late ‘80s/early ‘90s Madonna. Ok, sure, acknowledging. And… Gaga is a far stronger-voiced pop singer as well as a bold and creative performer. She’s maintaining her fan base really well and developing a reputation for great live shows even as she gets older. I’m rooting for her.

by Anonymousreply 27August 26, 2025 2:08 AM

[quote] So tiresome, the endless Gaga vs Madonna dragdown comparison.

Indeed. One is a talented and creative musician, singer, songwriter and actress with a reputation for professional generosity and adoring her fans and the other is Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 28August 26, 2025 2:12 AM

Only ‘cause she’s appropriating Barbra’s nails, OP!!

by Anonymousreply 29August 26, 2025 2:21 AM

Gaga is a good actress and elevates whatever she appears in, no matter how dreky. She had a great movie career ahead of her.

Madonna started out as a promising actress, it then took a weird turn and became awful. Swept Away is laughably horrendous as Madonna talks with a weird accent from nowhere.

by Anonymousreply 30August 26, 2025 6:06 AM

Gaga isn’t a good actress — it’s painfully obvious whenever she’s battling to out-ham Bradley Cooper or Joaquin Phoenix. Every scene in Joker 2, House of Gucci, and A Star Is Born plays like it was designed to be that one Oscar-bait monologue clip they roll during the awards.

Saying she’s a better actress than Gaga is like saying she’s a better dancer than Christopher Reeves. And she’s a shitty dancer.

by Anonymousreply 31August 26, 2025 6:34 AM

You can’t compare Madonna and Gaga at this point.

Gaga’s career has been more of an identity crisis as opposed to re-inventions.

And she goes after critical acclaim because her cultural relevance waned. Her standards albums with Tony, her acting career, etc. She hasn’t been influential in pop culture since “Bore This Way” so she tries to go for the Oscars or getting her ass kissed by critics for doing jazz.

The fact that she copied Taylor Swift on the new album (“How Bad Do You Want Me”) was embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 32August 26, 2025 6:49 AM

Speaking of copying… the chorus of the climactic song in KPop Demon Hunters, “What It Sounds Like”, is a 100% Gaga soundalike.

by Anonymousreply 33August 26, 2025 7:52 AM

Yes Gaga can dance. She was trained, and her stage show is loaded with choregraphed dance numbers, stunts, and her actually stopping to play piano and sing.

by Anonymousreply 34August 26, 2025 4:49 PM

Madonna had more cultural relevance thank Gaga. Gaga is a far better singer. So many artists today have been influenced by Madonna’s career

by Anonymousreply 35August 26, 2025 6:53 PM

R35 for sure Madonna had more relevance. I don't think that's even up for debate.

But Gaga is an A lister in her own right and is rather beloved by the general population. I know the weird Gaga haters on DL would have us think otherwise! But I think that's just the Janbot contingency who get off on stan wars.
