On one hand, I think that Disney might have overdone it. I'm gay, and think that more consistent exposure to simple depictions of homosexuality as a kid would have shaped my coming out trajectory differently---but I also think that kids aren't necessarily built to understand adult social issues and that you don't need to spoonfeed everything to them. They pick up what they pick up, let the rest alone.

On the other hand, Snoop is an embodiment of the reactionary turn, which will get worse before it gets better. He's all about the money, and people should absolutely call him a hypocrite.

Not necessarily, but 95% of the gay depictions I've seen in kids films are presented with some kind of anti-bigotry commentary. I would feel different if they were just simply gay. I mean, I'm very much about not insulating kids from reality and trying to test their ability to have empathy early in life, but I don't think relentless social justice messaging does anything but feel kids with a weird neurosis. I know lots of kids with left and liberal parents---some are fairly hands off and answer kids' questions honestly as they arrive, and some are inculcating their kids in the womb. My sister bought the Antiracist Baby book for her 1.5 year-old.
