I have friends of many years who are a cool lesbian couple. They used to post on Facebook about their home repairs, gardening, music, feminist issues, their new tattoos, all kinds of stuff.
Somehow a switch flipped and now every post is either about Palestine, trans, or both (there's a lot of overlap).
I don't get it.

R5 THIS!!!!!
They never protest the actual enemy, it's always their own. Which does nothing to actually help the actual Palestinian people. It's all performative so they can feel like they are the good guys, and go back to their tribe as the heroes thinking they accomplished something, when they actually didn't do shit.

by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 25, 2025 12:19 PM |
It’s performative!
90% of protestors don’t care about the cause, they care about the attention and dopamine.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 25, 2025 12:44 PM |
It's all just so performative and masturbatory, because we all know nothing will change on that front until at least January 2029. You really think you're gonna bully the US into changing its stance on G.aza?
Also, I can't believe they haven't switched to another pet issue by now. Antisemitism is a potent fuel, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 25, 2025 12:44 PM |
I'm so sick of these losers. I'm also sick of the mass prayers where they shut down entire streets to pray. Enough of this shit. I swear I'm going to blast polka music or something equally off-putting the next time I'm blocked by them.

by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 25, 2025 3:22 PM |
^^^I guess the irony is lost on you that it was cancelled because of the actions of supposed "allies."
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 25, 2025 3:56 PM |
I think this is what they’re mad about.
[quote] In 2024, Capital Pride issued a letter which condemned both "the acts of terrorism" committed on Oct. 7 and Israel's "endless and brutal campaign in Gaza," which it said had caused the deaths of "innocent Palestinians."
The Jewish Federation of Ottawa called the statement "antisemitic" and said it would boycott the Pride parade in response.
Other groups and individuals withdrew their support and sponsorship from some Pride Month events, including Sutcliffe.
The parade went ahead regardless, but this year the statement was removed from Capital Pride's website.
Capital Pride executive director Callie Metler told CBC last week that the removal was part of a website update but that it still stood by its "principles and values."
However, the organization has faced a campaign by Q4P to restore the statement and recommit to supporting Palestinians.
[quote]So it looks like this was over the organization pulling a Target on their statement, not just something completely random. Feel how you will about that, but apparently that's the history that kicked this off.

It’s no surprise that there are some people here being apologists for the people who indefensibly stopped the parade.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 25, 2025 4:29 PM |
Why didn’t the parade just keep marching forward?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 25, 2025 4:33 PM |
Since when did the LGBT community In Canada/the US become responsible for the plight of the Palestinians? I just don't get why community activists have decided that it's our issue.
There are far too many activists who take it upon themselves to speak on behalf of all of us when they don't represent all of us. That's one of the main reasons why a lot of gay men, myself included, feel alienated and disenfranchised by the overall LGBT community these days.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 25, 2025 4:39 PM |
As a gay man, I feel I’m part of the community called “society” these days. I don’t have any need to be “represented” by freaks.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 25, 2025 4:48 PM |
[quote] Why didn’t the parade just keep marching forward?
The Palestinian supporters attacked a Pride parade because they wanted a target that they trusted wouldn’t fight back. It’s unfortunate that the parade participants didn’t Stonewall their ass.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 25, 2025 4:58 PM |
Supporting aid to Palestine and an end to the conflict might have been admirable if they hadn't tried to extort Ottawa Capital Pride to do it.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 25, 2025 5:04 PM |

This could have been contained by a committee twink with a clipboard. "Gays For Palestine? Okay you march between the Calgary Leather Club and Maple Leaf Drag; stay in your lane & happy Pride!"
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 25, 2025 5:44 PM |
This complaint is very "BLM protests are adding 20 minutes to my commute and that makes me angry"
You're mad about the disruption caused by a protest movement but you don't care about actual suffering and injustice. Pretty hard to sympathize with someone with is that selfish and childish. People are starving in Gaza.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 25, 2025 6:33 PM |
Not to go all conspiracy theory about it, but is there any definitive proof that "Gays 4 Palestine" is actually made up of gays for Palestine?
Some right wingers would love nothing more than getting pride events cancelled. Just saying.

All Pride events have an inherent protest movement: against homophobia, bigotry, and oppression. These folks would have done more for Gaza by running a car wash across the street from Ottawa's gayest brunch spot and donating the proceeds.

[quote] You're mad about the disruption caused by a protest movement but you don't care about actual suffering and injustice. Pretty hard to sympathize with someone with is that selfish and childish. People are starving in Gaza.
The protest had zero impact on the situation that day in Gaza and won’t on any day after. It’s delusional to think that stopping a gay Pride parade helped anyone, anywhere. People’s right to have those kind of delusions doesn’t extend to disrupting other people’s lives so that the protestors can feel better about themselves.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 25, 2025 7:20 PM |
Gazans are starving? They look pretty chubby, especially the "refugees" getting off the plane.
I've no pity for supporters of an islamic terror group (for decades) or the hundreds of civilians that participated in the pogrom and danced with joy as the bodies of young dead Jews were dragged through the gazan streets. They can all fucking die for all I care.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 25, 2025 11:05 PM |
As an Ottawa resident, every weekend is a Palestinian protest. I am so sick and tired of their nonsense. Now I hear their spokesperson saying they did not want to terminate the pride parade, just 'interrupt it'. Then she even goes so far as to blame the Pride Committee for the reason the parade was shut down, saying it was their decision to do so. Typically taking out of both sides of their mouths. As said upthread, its all performative, the oly thing accomplished is now they've shown themselves to be the fools they are.

It's a photo of ISIS killing gay men ten years ago in Iraq and Syria. So, just because they belong to the same gigantic religion of many factions, even though this is a different sect of Islam, and a completely different political group, and this took place in a different country, and happened in a different decade, the Palestinians must be guilty also of this 2015 crime.
In the same way, the Kennedy family must be equally personally responsible for the Spanish Inquisition. And as an atheist, I must personally claim responsibility for the excesses of the Chinese Cultural Revolution.

R34 is a lying sack of shit. Hamas murdered one its top leaders when it was discovered he was gay. Gays face a genocide in the Palestinian Territories. Most women have experienced Female Genital Mutilation. Shove those facts up your diseased ass, faux progressive cunt.

No, it’s like showing the beheaded bodies from only one action by one Mexican drug cartel and saying this is what Mexican drug cartels in general do, which is valid.

R45, even major city in the west, including Times Square and the fucking disrespect of in front of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal and other churches.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | August 26, 2025 11:20 AM |
R50, you are very ill informed and falling for safe and comforting illusions. Christ never ordered the Spanish Inquisition, nor did he ever say to throw gays off roofs, enslave people, massacre and rape. All if this is ordered and sanctified in the koran and were done with joy by the islamic prophet. Furthermore, muslims are doing these things around the globe.
If you want the truth, check out Raymond Inbrahim and Robert Spencer on YouTube to start.

In the AP app today. Palestine is a humanitarian nightmare. Full stop. Palestine is not Indonesia, and Islam has sects like all major religions.
But hopefully young liberals know that all religions, no matter how peaceful they claim to be, are at the mercy of imperfect humans. This particular sect, in this particular nation, is not freedom loving.
[quote] An audience of about 100 people witnessed the caning on a stage in Bustanussalatin city park in Banda Aceh on Tuesday. The men, aged 20 and 21, were whipped across their backs with a rattan cane dozens of times by a group of people wearing robes and hoods. Aceh allows up to 100 lashes for morality offenses including gay sex and sex between unmarried people. Caning is also a punishment in Aceh for gambling, drinking alcohol, women who wear tight clothes and men who do not attend Friday prayers. The court in Aceh sentenced the men to 80 strikes each after Islamic religious police said they caught them engaged in what the court deemed were the sexual acts of hugging and kissing in a bathroom of a public park, court records said. Eight other people were publicly caned Tuesday for adultery and gambling. The men were arrested in April at Taman Sari city park in Banda Aceh after residents told a police patrol they saw the men enter the same park bathroom. The police found the men inside kissing and hugging. Prior to meeting in the park, the pair made contact through an online dating app, court records said.

by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 26, 2025 1:11 PM |
Yes, R58. Then they have the fucking nerve to ask buskers and vendors to turn down their music while they pray. Like I said, if it were me, I'd crank the volume up even more. There is literally no need for hundreds of men in the West to take over public streets and squares to pray - and then expect the general public to be respectful and grant them space.

In years past the parades were interrupted as protest for other issues; police in uniform marching, BLM, etc... Even in the unlikely event that the Palestinian is resolved next year, the parade will be stopped/interrupted for another issue.
Just stop having the parade. Many grass roots community organizations put a great deal of work in their presence at the parade only to have it co-opted and erased by a group dedicated to one cause (however worthy that cause may be).
