The Kelly McGillis appreciation thread

I have always loved Kelly and her work. Her off-screen backstory, though at times very difficult to read about, has always interested me. I have been revisiting some of her early films & interviews from the 1980s era (Witness, Reuben Reuben, and Top Gun). I wish that she had done more films, and I feel that she has always been underrated.

In this interview from 1988, she discusses with Bobbie Wygant how surviving rape led to her choosing the role in The Accused. She is so beautiful, sensitive, and well spoken in this interview, but you can see the pain underneath.

Discuss what you remember/admire about Kelly and her work/life.

She has a very Neanderthal set to her jaw and mouth, and I love it.

She was really gorgeous, but also distinctive looking, with a very expressive face made for the big screen.

I don’t think she was a fantastic actress, but she was certainly a good one.

I hope she’s happy in retirement.

R3 She has 57 credits in film and television work, and the OP mentioned four films that she was in Top Gun, Reuben, Reuben, Witness and The Accused

I loved her in Witness and also thought she was excellent in The House on Carroll Street, an underrated noir period piece which she had the right old school elegance for.
