Hilarious now when you watch it, it's so bad.
Best of all is how Bette Davis HATED Karen Black (join the club).

It's not bad! I love that scary ass movie. That fucking kid landing on the car windshield scared me long after I was jaded by every other horror movie when I was 7.

Not great. The scariest was the hearse driver. I'd watch it again.

Just to clarify, the kid didn't land on the car windshield. He was in the car and witnessed his dad fall on the car windshield and die. Kid runs out of the car traumatized and the chimney falls on him.
Still horrifying and it traumatized me when I was little as well

I hated that bratty Montgomery kid. He was stinking up TV all over the place. his older sister Belinda J wasn't much better. thankfully neither lasted long.
and this movie could have been so much better without that whining brat. Bette Davis, Karen Black, a very bloated Oliver Reed...

That bratty Montgomery kid hit the wall hard.

Oh thanks R4, I knew it was something creepy with the windshield. Reed was bloated but I'd still bang him! This movie and "Mephisto Waltz" were two underrated truly scary flicks.

loved Mephisto Waltz

Lee had a moment in the 80s. The bratty kid grew into a beautiful beefcake

This was a "location shoot" in Oakland, CA. Bette HATED location work. She didn't care for Black or Reed. I think he deliberately provoked her with some outrageous off-camera behavior. Later claimed Bette and Shelly Winters were senile.
No one so far has mentioned the delicious, dotty performances by Burgess Meredith and Eileen Heckart. The film was directed by Dan Curtis, who did tv's Dark Shadows.

Karen and Bette famously did not get on well during the making of this. Karen was definitely a kooky woman, but I do believe she did everything for the sake of the art and probably didn’t kiss Bette’s ass in the way she wanted her to.

I just rewatched this last year and it still holds up for me. Like another poster stated, the hearse driver is the scariest part.
