If Bernie would have been the nominee in 2016 Trump would have lost

In all the finger pointing, MSNBC, Comey, Garlick, crazy Uncle Joe, word salad Kamala Harris. All of this bullshit, very many valid points, one thing is clear. Explain me the scenario where Trump wins the blue wall over Bernie. It doesn’t exist. It is a statistical impossibility. Hillary won 3 million more votes than Trump. If Bernie was that nominee, a President Trump would be a thing of sci-fi films.

by Anonymousreply 70August 23, 2025 5:57 AM

She should have picked him or Elizabeth Warren as VP, but I don't believe it would have made a difference.

by Anonymousreply 1August 22, 2025 4:58 AM

*snort*

by Anonymousreply 2August 22, 2025 5:03 AM

Hilarious.

Bernie got 4 million FEWER votes than Hillary in the Primary, but he would have beat Trump?

Ohmygawd, so crazy.

by Anonymousreply 3August 22, 2025 5:07 AM

You ran it up the flag pole, OP, and we collectively responded đź‘…pppbbbbttttt đź’¦

by Anonymousreply 4August 22, 2025 5:15 AM
She should have picked him or Elizabeth Warren as VP

It would have to have been Bernie picking Hillary to be his VP, but it would have been been better for him to pick anyone other than her.

by Anonymousreply 5August 22, 2025 5:19 AM

This is so divisive, OP. Delete this.

by Anonymousreply 6August 22, 2025 5:31 AM

Nothing to take seriously here. I wish it could have been true but no. Vermont might be ready to be like Canada but that's about it.

There is no state as wonderful as Vermont.

by Anonymousreply 7August 22, 2025 5:31 AM

He would’ve been the nominee if the DNC hadn’t rigged the primary.

by Anonymousreply 8August 22, 2025 5:39 AM

I don't believe it.

by Anonymousreply 9August 22, 2025 5:44 AM

BERNIE: " the millionaires and the billionaires..blah,blah, blah..."

ME: "uhh, yeah Bernie - you're also a millionaire...fuck off"

by Anonymousreply 10August 22, 2025 5:45 AM

You notice not nay ho has disputed my premise. Spell me a scenario where Bernie Sanders loses the Blue Wall in 2016.

And yes bitches, she was implicit in the primary rig/steal.

by Anonymousreply 11August 22, 2025 5:52 AM

Goddamn spitting old fool.

I would have sat home in 2016 if that phony had been the nominee.

I’m not alone, either. That spitting, finger wagging phony would have gotten his ass kicked. Dream on, OP

by Anonymousreply 12August 22, 2025 5:55 AM

If Bernie has been the nominee, Trump would have attacked him as being a Commie.

Bernie would have lost big time.

by Anonymousreply 13August 22, 2025 5:57 AM

I loved Bernie but he never could have been elected. Be realistic.

by Anonymousreply 14August 22, 2025 6:00 AM

(Some)Bernie bros never got over 2016. Still struggling, OP?

by Anonymousreply 15August 22, 2025 6:11 AM

Hillary won the popular vote. Which indicates who the people wanted for POTUS. Then Putin's hackers made them disappear.

They tried the same thing in 2020 but there were so many votes for Biden they couldn't erase enough.

By 2024 Musk had figured out how to erase votes from computer tabulations.

Donald Trump has never won an election.

by Anonymousreply 16August 22, 2025 6:19 AM

R15 no bitch. We saw the fucking future. That’s the problem. You establishment Dems keep telling us “it’s not time” but when are YOU going to actually win. It’s time the Democrats had a tea party movement. It’s necessary now.

You wanna know why MAGA never floundered like previous sub political groups—because at every turn they gave the GOP ultimatums. They always thought long game. We’re not backing down this time. No more, no longer. Mamdani 2025. RHO. Real Hos Only.

by Anonymousreply 17August 22, 2025 6:55 AM

OP is delusional.

by Anonymousreply 18August 22, 2025 6:56 AM

Bernie Sanders was too far left to win

by Anonymousreply 19August 22, 2025 6:59 AM

Yes, R17, “Real hos only” is definitely gonna win over suburban moms and grandmas in Michigan and Wisconsin.

If we’ve learned anything from the last decade it’s that America is, at its core, a center-right country, and any bit of incremental progress, anything that can be framed as within a football field of “socialism,” will inspire a backlash so aggressive it will set us back a century.

by Anonymousreply 20August 22, 2025 6:59 AM

A bit dramatic but correct in essence r20. Bernie was even more left than Canada, his inspiration.

by Anonymousreply 21August 22, 2025 7:03 AM

….with Jane Sanders? She’d bankrupt the U,S. faster than DJT.

by Anonymousreply 22August 22, 2025 7:58 AM

In the general, the GOP would have eviscerated Marxist, commie Bernie

by Anonymousreply 23August 22, 2025 8:20 AM
Mamdani 2025. RHO. Real Hos Only.

The charlatan. The opportunist who checked a box meant for Black Americans when it benefitted him on a college application.

by Anonymousreply 24August 22, 2025 8:29 AM

I know there are 24 responses, but I came right to the end because the chalkboard grating grammar had me wondering how many liberals walk circles around folks like this.

by Anonymousreply 25August 22, 2025 8:41 AM

And then Covid would have been on Bernie’s watch and Trump would have come back and pounded him relentlessly on that and accused him of using Covid as an excuse to turn America into a godless mask wearing freedom hating communist country and then Trump would have won in 2020

by Anonymousreply 26August 22, 2025 8:57 AM

Bernie is a lazy Senator, a nasty human being and a shitty Presidential candidate. Thankfully Black voters saw through his bullshit and denied him the nomination.

And piss off, Teacake. Bernie Bros are trash.

by Anonymousreply 27August 22, 2025 9:42 AM

If James Comey had kept his Frankenstein's monster-ass quiet until AFTER the election--like he was supposed to do--Trump would've lost.

Clinton got SCREWED.

by Anonymousreply 28August 22, 2025 10:06 AM

This doesn’t pass a credibility test.

The 2016 election was unusually close in part because, even though we’d had a Dem president for 8 years and things usually swing to the other party after a while, women voters and Black voters came out strongly for Hillary Clinton. Obviously it wasn’t quite enough. But there’s zero reason to believe that Bernie Sanders who polled very far below Hillary with women voters and with Black voters, would have somehow defeated Trump where she could not.

by Anonymousreply 29August 22, 2025 10:07 AM

This is such a pointless conversation now. We should be focussing on what's coming from the Trump administration.

by Anonymousreply 30August 22, 2025 11:29 AM

Keep fucking that chicken OP.

by Anonymousreply 31August 22, 2025 11:31 AM

The Democrats are ready for Bernie’s policy platform now. He was 10 years too soon.

by Anonymousreply 32August 22, 2025 11:54 AM

If he had been elected, he would have caved to corporate interests. Bernie talks a good game but that’s all it is. Talk.

Look at how quickly Nina Turner defended bipartisanship the moment democrats started redistricting in California. As one comment pointed out, what happened to the revolution they so wanted?

by Anonymousreply 33August 22, 2025 12:24 PM

Yeet!

by Anonymousreply 34August 22, 2025 12:48 PM

Absolutely not, OP. Democrats would have stayed home in droves. A socialist will never be elected President in this country.

by Anonymousreply 35August 22, 2025 1:06 PM

Women voters especially would have sat it out. Remember the sadness many felt way back in 2008, when Obama defeated her in that primary? The PUMAs? [italic]Now, FINALLY, [/italic]they thought in 2016. [italic]Finally we can have a woman be our Democratic nominee and maybe even our President. [/italic]If Bernie had handed Hillary Clinton a surprise defeat all over again, especially after she served so loyally as US Secretary of State under Obama... it would have caused a profound sense of alienation and hopelessness, and yes, refusal to support him among many women voters.

It is easier for us males (I am one) to take it for granted and not think about it as much, that we live in this world where the US president has always and only been male, and now here we are feeling even more skittish about 2028 and there's a lot of current talk about how it had better be a white guy for our D nominee after what we just experienced with Trump vs Harris. But many Democratic women voters feel a resigned sadness about this, and in some women voters it goes deep and it is more than understandable.

by Anonymousreply 36August 22, 2025 1:32 PM
The Democrats are ready for Bernie’s policy platform now. He was 10 years too soon.

Bizarre non-logic, right here!

Bernie has had TEN YEARS to advance his "platform" and has accomplished precisely NOTHING, because other than bash Democrats he has done precisely nothing! Not one action taken other than fundraising millions for himself and cheering on looney candidates. His buddy AOC has followed in his footsteps with her Green New Deal which still has not progressed from the bumper sticker phase, although she too raises tens of millions a year to run in her D+28 district.

Bernie sabotaged the 2016 election gifting us Trump...twice.

by Anonymousreply 37August 22, 2025 2:00 PM

Dems will lose again in 2028 if they pick a mainstream Democrat like Newsom. Of course, DLers are too blind to see this and will lose again.

by Anonymousreply 38August 22, 2025 2:08 PM

Can’t we thank Debbie Wasserman Schultz for railroading Bernie?

by Anonymousreply 39August 22, 2025 2:24 PM

Wahhhhh!

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz didn't worship me, the non-member of the Democratic Party!

by Anonymousreply 40August 22, 2025 2:40 PM

The enthusiasm for Bernie was real. The huge rallies, crowds following him, stopping him on the street to shake his hand and give him a hug. Hillary was not only not popular (they struggled to fill a high school gym for a rally) but she was ill (coughing up a storm, collapsing) and you can't divorce her (so to speak) from her husband. No matter how many times people said "he's not running," of course it would have been a continuation of the Clinton presidency. Do you think just because he stayed in the background that meant he wasn't her partner? And people didn't want to re-elect the Clintons.

What's awful, too, is the party wanted to anoint her, without any real primary opposition, someone who was not even in public office, at the time, a private citizen--treat her like an incumbent. Running unopposed. And so many of you went along with that, instead of demanding an open primary, and exchange of ideas, and a chance to have choices. It was undemocratic, but nobody cared. Yass Queen.

by Anonymousreply 41August 22, 2025 5:14 PM

It doesn't really matter that Hillary won the primary (that Donna Brazile and Elizabeth Warren both said was rigged), when it comes to who could have beaten Trump. The primary winner isn't necessarily the best one to beat the other candidate in the general. It's a totally different dynamic. It's really hard to believe that people who were going to vote for Hillary would have voted for Trump instead, if the choice were Trump-Bernie. And I think Bernie would have picked up many votes of disaffected Democrats who were disappointed in Obama and ended up voting for Trump because they figured a centrist would continue Obama's policies and they were willing to give an unknown quantity a try.

by Anonymousreply 42August 22, 2025 5:22 PM

R38 I disagree. I think many are either regretting their votes OR regretting they didn't get off their couches to vote. Repbulicans have pissed off POCs with their anti-DEI shit and detention centers surrounded by crocodiles.

by Anonymousreply 43August 22, 2025 5:53 PM

R38 Also, Newsom is WHITE and a MAN. So the self-hating blacks and browns won't have an excuse not to vote Dem.

by Anonymousreply 44August 22, 2025 5:57 PM
Dems will lose again in 2028 if they pick a mainstream Democrat like Newsom.

Hilariously wrong!

You are aware that big lefty AOC routinely gets the fewest amount of votes in her very blue district than every winning Democrat in NY's House delegation gets in theirs, right? What does this tell us? Big media eagerly reports Bernie's and AOC's every utterance, but the actual voters are pretty lukewarm. Fact.

The issue is that candidates like these are most popular to a group who are very unreliable voters. You can't win elections appealing to non-voters.

by Anonymousreply 45August 22, 2025 5:59 PM

Bernie Bros were aging hippies who never transitioned to higher levels of personal responsibilities, and those 20-somethings +, demanding free tuition and/or expecting their college debt to be erased. Bernie never explained how all the free stuff gets paid.

by Anonymousreply 46August 22, 2025 7:22 PM

Where’s my free stuff?

by Anonymousreply 47August 22, 2025 7:26 PM

R46 Yes, he explained it all on his website. I've been reading this lie here for ten years.

by Anonymousreply 48August 22, 2025 7:32 PM

Are you Bernie Bros are still crying? My god, you almost whine as much as MAGA. You guys were assholes to everyone so blame yourself.

by Anonymousreply 49August 22, 2025 7:35 PM

Bernie Sanders plans to pay for his free public college proposal, the College for All Act, through the Tax on Wall Street Speculation Act. This legislation would impose a tax on financial transactions, such as stock and bond trades, to fund the elimination of tuition and fees at public colleges and universities. The federal government would cover the majority of the costs, with states contributing the remaining portion. Key details of the financing plan:

Wall Street Tax: The core funding mechanism is a tax on specific Wall Street transactions, including a 0.5% tax on stock trades, a 0.1% fee on bonds, and a 0.005% fee on derivatives.

Federal and State Cost-Sharing: Under the College for All Act, the federal government would be responsible for a significant portion of the cost, with the remaining share paid by the states.

Estimated Funding: The Tax on Wall Street Speculation Act is projected to generate approximately $2.4 trillion over a decade, which would cover the estimated costs of the free college program.

Broader Goals: Beyond tuition, the legislation also aims to allow existing federal aid to cover living expenses like books and housing and includes provisions to eliminate federal profits on student loans.

by Anonymousreply 50August 22, 2025 7:36 PM

Plenty of Bernie Bros turned to MAGA.

by Anonymousreply 51August 22, 2025 7:42 PM

Bernie will be back in 2028. And 2032.

by Anonymousreply 52August 22, 2025 7:49 PM

OP is assuming there was no Russian interference with out Voting System. Putin's plan was two-fold (if not 3, 4, and 18-fold). He wanted Hillary to lose AND his candidate Dump to win. This was a long-game plan going as far back as 1989, (Craig Unger writes about it in his book American Kompromat).

A lot of people didn't realize back in 2016, and still don't. Bernie had help from Putin. He wasn't nearly as popular as he seemed at first, but bots helped to cheer on Bernie, as well as degrade Hillary. There was a Putin-employed mole in Bernie's camp (Tad Devine), just like there was in Dump's (Paul Manafort).

Now, I'm not saying Bernie was complicit. I prefer to believe he wasn't. He didn't need to know. He must have suspected at some point when all this dirt about Devine came out, but chose to keep silent. I like to believe had Bernie advanced to be the Democratic candidate, he would have dispatched Devine and let all be known. (But I digress).

If Putin's plan at that point had come to fruition, and it was Sanders vs Dump, he had tons of information he would have released on Sanders, (not necessarily factual information, but all types of propaganda to make Bernie look corrupt). I think Putin might have had an easier time defeating Sanders than Hillary Clinton.

(Not to mention, Putin, just the year before, was hugely instrumental in sabotaging Jeb Bush's Presidential campaign. If you all recall, it was widely expected to be a Bush vs Clinton race before Dump's emergence).

I know most of you will think me a conspiracy theorist, but many conspiracies turn out to be real. I give you Nixon committing Treason to win the 1968 election which was only revealed a few years ago.

by Anonymousreply 53August 22, 2025 7:54 PM

Nah. If this country isn't ready for a woman president it sure as hell isn't ready for a Jewish president.

by Anonymousreply 54August 22, 2025 7:57 PM

R53 good post. Much of it has merit. Some of it one day may garner more confirmation with added revelations. Putin had his hands in all of it. Add Jill Stein to the Putin orbit.

by Anonymousreply 55August 22, 2025 8:45 PM

If the nomination had not been handed to Hillary, President Sanders would by now be former president Sanders. I wonder if he would have retired after being president, or try to go doing something else.

by Anonymousreply 56August 22, 2025 9:13 PM

R54 That, too!!!

R55 Totally agree re: Jill Stein.

R56 It wasn't really "handed" to Hillary. Many of us now believe that because Right Wing outlets were "promoting" that, (none more so that FOX!). Obama was very instrumental in finessing Hilary's campaign while discouraging Joe Biden's, (far more than was officially reported).

Perhaps not in 2008, but if you objectively look at all Hillary had accomplished by 2015, she truly was the most qualified. She also had huge polling numbers UNTIL she declared her candidacy. That's when Putin systematically started his meddling (with lots of help from FOX).

by Anonymousreply 57August 22, 2025 9:38 PM

Bernie won caucuses. Hilary won primaries. Caucuses are public. Bernie won the Washington state caucus, Hilary won the beauty contast Washington State primary. She was millions of votes more the choice of the Democrats than Bernie.

by Anonymousreply 58August 22, 2025 9:41 PM

Bernie would have lost the popular vote as well. Many in this country would not vote for a Jew.

by Anonymousreply 59August 22, 2025 9:43 PM

There was a regular on the dailykos blog who was a massive Bernie stan, who simply could not support Hilary "because of her vote on the Iraq war." could not. 4 years later he threw all his support to Biden.

These were just the same white men who just could not stand the thought.

I remember Susan Sarandon was similar. A big Bernie stan, pouting and sullen throughout the convention. Again, could not support Hilary due to the Iraq war vote (which wasn't an Iraq war vote at all). But had supported John Edwards (another Iraq war vote) in the past.

by Anonymousreply 60August 22, 2025 9:44 PM

R49 I remember in 2020 Bernie bros were still doing the "earn my vote" shit and the mainstream democrats were all, "No you did this last time and killed the hostage anyway."

by Anonymousreply 61August 22, 2025 9:48 PM

R20 I would never use that language with them. Know your audience.

by Anonymousreply 62August 23, 2025 1:17 AM

Btw I proudly voted for Hill thinking I was voting the first female president because I always see glass half full except Trump 2.0. Bernie would have one every single blue wall state. Truth hurts doesn’t it Hillbots.

by Anonymousreply 63August 23, 2025 1:19 AM

Isn’t it ironic that the same establishment dems screaming that hard lefties are anti-Semitic, were making the argument that a Jew was unelectable in 2016. Stop listening to these cunts talk out of both sides of their mouths.

by Anonymousreply 64August 23, 2025 1:22 AM

Why do I feel like a time machine just took me back to 2017?

by Anonymousreply 65August 23, 2025 1:29 AM

Bernie was defeated twice. Not by the establishment, not by superdelegates. not by the mainstream media, not by the oligarchs. He was defeated by Democratic voters.

But sure. He totally would have beat Trump.

by Anonymousreply 66August 23, 2025 1:30 AM

LOLOLOL.

by Anonymousreply 67August 23, 2025 2:23 AM

R37, he had like 10000 years to explain his Medicare for all plan and he couldn't explain it. There was some long Politico article where he was asked details and he couldn't provide them.

by Anonymousreply 68August 23, 2025 2:26 AM

But the child molestor had a concept of a plan!

by Anonymousreply 69August 23, 2025 5:08 AM

Teacake, would it kill you to proofread your posts before hitting the post button? Just once? Make it make sense, as you have repeatedly stated in your dumbass posts.
