Disney is begging Hollywood for original IP’s that will win over Gen Z boys again
Leadership at Disney is pressing Hollywood creatives for movies that will bring young men (ages 13-28, aka Gen Z) back to the brand in a meaningful way, specifically original concepts.
Sources say Disney has been seeking new IP and pitches such as splashy global adventures and treasure hunts, as well as seasonal fare like films for the Halloween corridor. The calls come as the Star Wars machine struggles to produce any film project and the superhero genre sheds audiences by the minute.

Teenage boys are too busy playing video games to care about movies

I have a couple of ideas.

Disney had a division which targeted young men fine. It was called Touchstone and produced many of Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay’s movies.
Bob Iger dismantled it.
Then they bought 20th Century Fox, which has a long history of male-centric titles from Die Hard.
They let it whither on the vine.
Much of what you are going to see over the next year is how badly Bob Iger’s long term planning was.

R1 I’m sure that’s the issue. As if video games are new

R5 Die Hard was their only male IP? And you think that’s good?

Bring back the Scavenger Hunt genre.

Hum, wonder why that is. Couldn't possibly be because they ran Star Wars and superheroes into the ground by constantly putting out inferior product.

Then pay big money for good directors to adapt video games and don’t interfere by demanding stupid arbitrary changes or a shoe-in scene where Gal Gadot reminds a little girl she can be whatever she wants to be. Make a Mass Effect or Metal Gear show.

How are you going to get 13 to 28-year-old men out of their mothers' basements?

Good luck with that. They wanted to be all woke and make it a female brand. Now they’ve figured out that they’re continuously losing money and maybe trashing men wasn’t the best idea. Their CEOs are atrocious.

Boys are simply not interested in Disney. It’s a childish brand and everything they make is a pile of crap.

Gen Z boys have gaming, porn and social media. They're not looking for things to do to get themselves out of the house.

We really need to stop speaking of 13 year olds watching porn as no big deal.

R17, we all were 13-year-old boys who watched (or tried to watch) porn at some time.

R18 most of us didn’t have access to it. Porn isn’t good for kids. 13 is too young.
An image is one thing. Hardcore porn is another.

Are their attention spans too weak to appreciate feature films? I won't pay the going rate for less than a 90 minute film if that is what's on the horizon.

Boss: "Ashley, get Dean Jones on the horn, stat!"
Ashley: "Who? Horn? WTF?"

In the late 1950s and the 1960s, Disney made films that young boys loved.

They spent 10 years chasing a woke audience that never existed. Their target audience sunk them and “Barbie” and “Wicked” proved girls like girly movies.

Try a show about incels and Alphas for that demographic. Throw in some MMA cut scenes and you’ve got a ratings winner.

Gen Z boys aren't interested in movies anymore. Most are hopped up on Mountain Dew Code Red while playing Call of Duty and listening to five-hour manosphere podcasts.
