Tariffs are giving parents back-to-school sticker shock

[quote]Lisa Ward was startled at the prices on sneakers when she recently went back-to-school shopping for her twin boys. “All of them were at least $10 or $20 more than last year. That pissed me off, but I didn’t have a choice,” said Ward, a finance professional who lives outside of Atlanta. After buying two pairs of sneakers for each of her growing 15-year-old boys, Ward was suddenly out $300.

[quote]“The lagging impacts of tariffs are coming in. Raising prices is not a strategy brands implement often – unless they need to.”

If the parents voted for Trump, I don't want to hear them complain

MAGA loves families but hates education, so they must have mixed feelings over this news.

She would have had to buy new shoes for growing teenagers anyway and she could have gotten much cheaper ones at Walmart, so that’s on her.

[quote] “I think the higher prices are due to tariffs and just greed, to be honest. This is an opportunity for everyone to jack up their prices,” Ward said.

For a few years, people were saying inflation was all caused by companies gouging consumers. You don’t hear that concern much anymore.

It's not that simple. Kids wearing cheap and knockoff stuff tend to get relegated to the bottom of the social ladder, which then impacts their confidence and what kind of friends they're able to make, limiting their future prospects, which then turns into a vicious circle. Happened to me as well, growing up poor.

So I fully understand why parents wouldn't want to set up their kids for failure right from the get-go.

She probably voted for him, so don't complain if this is what you wanted.
