U.S. Senator Issues Warning To NFL Teams With Male Cheerleaders

Appearing on OutKick's Hot Mic w/ Hutton & Withrow, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, a former college football head coach in his own right, railed against the Minnesota Vikings adding a pair of male cheerleaders to their squad. While not the first time male cheerleaders have appeared in the NFL, he called out the NFL for being "woke" and trying to take "take the masculinity out" of the sport.

"I would like to ask the ownership of the NFL and the commissioner, what the hell are you doing?" Tuberville began. "If you're going to be woke, and if you're going to try to take the men out of men's sports, which is what they're doing, they're trying to take gender and try and make it more about gender than about masculinity, then you're going to have a huge problem."

Tuberville then railed against the state of Minnesota, socialism and gender identities before issuing a warning that male cheerleaders had better not become a thing in the South. He believes that adding just two male cheerleaders can become a slippery slope.

"You can see Minnesota doing it, they're one of the blue states, we've lost them, and they're more into socialism and it's about 150 genders. Butat the end of the day, I hope to God it doesn't come South," he said.

"This is not about just a couple of people being men cheerleaders, it's about pushing a narrative about wanting to put gender into sports and let everyone know that we're going to take the masculinity out of it a little bit, and that's not going to happen in the South."

As OutKick pointed out, the Los Angeles Rams introduced male cheerleaders in 2018 followed by the Baltimore Ravens.

There's never been a shortage of male cheerleaders in football, though usually they're most noticeable for being supportive of the female cheerleaders in pompoms.

As far as Tuberville's fear that male cheerleaders will become a thing in the South, that ship sailed ages ago.

But if Tuberville's sole concern is seeing men using the pompoms then that's a horse of a different color.

There are reports that some Vikings season-ticket holders are already canceling their tickets in response to the news.

Whether fans really put their money where their mouth is remains to be seen.

Old Elephant Ears needs to stay in his lane. Because no one wants an opinion from the dumbest member of the Senate.

Oh, shut up.

I hate that Trump is enabling people to revel in their own resentments and fears.

Do we think his fellow Alabamians are proud that he's focused on such pressing issues or think he's a complete idiot?

"and if you're going to try to take the men out of men's sports, which is what they're doing, they're trying to take gender and try and make it more about gender than about masculinity, "

Let's see if I've got this right. Adding two men is actually taking men out of men's sports. And masculinity and gender are opposing ideas. Gotcha.

I think Tubberville doth protest too much. I bet he's toe tapped in a truck stop stall more than once.

by Anonymousreply 6August 20, 2025 6:11 AM

This asshole...

by Anonymousreply 7August 20, 2025 6:15 AM

Tuberville wouldn't have had this notion unless he was a latent homosexual

Go Vikings!

The TikTok guy in R9 has a point. However, I think there's a small section of "straight" men who don't differentiate much between women and "femboys," so they might actually secretly enjoy two twinky cheerleadering queens wiggling their asses at them.

But let's be honest... the most important question here is how much football player cock Louie and Blaze are getting on the DL.

"cheerleading was male sport first and Reagan and Bush were cheerleaders. it's about doing what you like and what your good at."

Tuberville deserves a vicious face slapping with a copy of Gender Trouble.

Christ, these people are fucking idiots.

by Anonymousreply 13August 20, 2025 7:38 AM

TikTok queen above has a point, no one wants to see male queens, they want many dudes in short shorts.

by Anonymousreply 14August 20, 2025 7:38 AM

This is more entertaining than those two queens.

I'm not American so I had to check if Tommy Tuberville was a real person, because his comments verge on parody. How is adding two male cheerleaders taking men out of sport?

But I think this sort of rhetoric is bad for the Republicans. I've been following the discussion in the last few days and even some of the more ardent MAGAs have been saying they don't have a problem with it because they can clearly see these are men cheerleading - ie they're not trans women. Their argument has always been that men can act 'feminine' but that doesn't make them women - so at least they're being consistent here and saying this is an example of that.

Plus it's drawn out genuine homophobes who take their masks off and basically just say "we don't want to see gay dudes dancing" (along with more colourful language). But that's then received pushback from other MAGAs who're saying things like: "gay men aren't the issue, we just don't like the trans, would you say this to Scott Presler?" and so on. It's been quite funny to watch the in fighting - especially as it's come so soon after the MAGAts have been having the same arguments about repealing same-sex marriage.

R16, the Repugnicans are long beyond internal logic. Everything they say is performative crap acting as a last fig leave for their unfiltered hate. They know it, the MAGA cult knows it. It doesn't matter what the justification is, as long as the hate flows freely.

Oh, and for some, it's of course also self-delusion because they think they're good Christians bound to Heaven. Of course, that's ridiculous. If there's an afterlife, all MAGAs are damned to an eternity of unimaginable torment.

Male cheerleaders are not anything new.

by Anonymousreply 18August 20, 2025 11:37 AM

Hell FDR was a cheerleader at Harvard in the early 1900s. Pre wheelchair obviously.

by Anonymousreply 19August 20, 2025 11:50 AM

R18 / R19 Exactly. The haters essentially say they're fine with male cheerleaders when they're in male roles - eg lifting the female cheerleaders.

In their mind, that's fine for a man to do, because they deem it manly enough.

But a man dancing with pom poms? Too much. Their mind tries to apply the trans talking points, but all of those have answers:

"They're not women! Women and men are born women and men and can't change sex!" -- These men aren't saying they're women. They're biological men, participating as MALE cheerleaders. The clue's in the name.

"These men shouldn't be dressing/larping like girls! It'll confuse children" -- They're not. They've got tops and shorts on. Some men in the 1980s wore shorter shorts than these male cheerleaders.

"Men shouldn't be dancing provocatively! It's not suitable for kids!!" -- They're dancing the same steps as the female cheerleaders. If you had no problem with female cheerleaders dancing like that in front of children, why do you suddenly think it's bad when it's men?

"OK fine. I like perving on the female cheerleaders and I don't want some prancing f*gs interrupting my view, or making me question my sexuality". -- We got there in the end.

Tommy (a name for a little kid, actually) knows there are 150 genders but doesn't know the number of branches of government.

But Talibama loves his rank stupidity.
