I love Plattsburgh. It's Montréal's American suburb, about an hour away . Easier to get to than some other Montréal exurbs. They describe themselves that way. And Plattsburgh gays are always welcome here. As we feel welcome there. They spend so much time here. Always fun guys.

We are their closest big city.

The Air Force base can be a problem though. That's their MAGA component. Southern accents in Plattsburgh are viewed with suspicion. And some of them are gay, and come to Montréal to hook up, but we know the difference between the true people of Plattsburgh and the transient MAGA families from the base.

It used to be an easy day trip from Montréal. A little more than an hour drive. Inexpensive outlet stores for bed linens and towels made the lower Canadian dollar competitive. Many restaurants and lodgings took Canadian money at par.

Plattsburgh is a long time close friend of Montréal.

Now we are afraid of bringing laptops and tablets and phones.. I am retired but my husband still works as a lawyer. He refuses to bring his phone with good reason. Confidential information.

Friends who work in the engineering community have had their phones, laptops, tablets confiscated for several hours qhile the waited. Some of the information on those devices was confidential.

Much as I love Plattsburgh and the great people who live there, they know who I mean, I refuse to turn what used to he an easy 90 minute drive into 4 hours with border MAGATS checkig my phone and asking about every gay citizen of Plattsburgh I might know.

Also being followed and strormed by a fighter plane as I drove from Pyramid Mall didn't help.

But I love Plattsburgh and the people who live there.
