I know I'm just lazy, but if I were pushing 80, and had tons of money, I would not be constantly seeking out work. I'd have a few pets, a big nice house with a yard, and a housekeeper, and just chill out.

I don't know -- sounds like fun to me.

Besides, she won't have to leave the US because of you-know-who -- she's already gone.

by Anonymousreply 2August 18, 2025 4:27 PM

It's not like she's spent decades grinding out a 40-50 hour work week. She's had lots of free time over the years between projects and can continue to work or not work as she pleases. I assume many actors continue to work past normal "retirement age" for those reasons.

What I don’t understand is she keeps choosing things that won’t win her the Oscar.

That is usually the goal isn’t it?

by Anonymousreply 4August 18, 2025 4:36 PM

She's gonna wait out T in the UK while filming a cute little show and getting fawned over left and right. What's not to love.

by Anonymousreply 5August 18, 2025 4:36 PM

I thought she was playing Queen Maud of Norway. That would have been exciting!

by Anonymousreply 6August 18, 2025 4:39 PM

I don't think she cares at this point, r4. Not everyone is as obsessed with Oscars as JLC.

by Anonymousreply 7August 18, 2025 4:41 PM

Losing for The Wife broke something inside her, she's thrown in her towel where Oscars are concerned. And you know what, good for her.

by Anonymousreply 8August 18, 2025 4:46 PM

She probably knows that she should have won for Albert Nobbs. That was an Oscar-worthy performance.

by Anonymousreply 9August 18, 2025 5:22 PM

She can play a dried apple doll next.

by Anonymousreply 10August 18, 2025 5:48 PM

R9, her Oscar should have been Dangerous Liaisons. People actually saw THAT one.

by Anonymousreply 11August 18, 2025 5:58 PM

R9 it didn’t work for her Garp costar, why would she think that?

R11 agreed. It’s my favorite of her performances. She and Malkovich were brilliant together.

by Anonymousreply 12August 18, 2025 6:15 PM

She must be pissed that she is being pushed out of the Sunset Boulevard movie. This sounds awful (elderly woman is a serial killer).

by Anonymousreply 13August 18, 2025 6:29 PM

An Oscar is a not sales award for the most units sold, r11.

Wanna bet, R15?

by Anonymousreply 16August 18, 2025 6:51 PM

R14, I mean.

by Anonymousreply 17August 18, 2025 6:51 PM

R9 m An Oscar worthy performance aka Oscar bait.

by Anonymousreply 18August 18, 2025 6:59 PM

Before I scrolled to the picture, I thought this was about Glenn Greenwald getting an even better assignment than Brazil from Putin.

by Anonymousreply 19August 18, 2025 7:24 PM

She was great in the Israeli spy drama “Tehran”, and she even did a fair bit of Farsi. I was impressed.

by Anonymousreply 20August 18, 2025 7:31 PM

If she didn't win for this she ain't never gonna win.

R13, she’s not being pushed out. Shes welcome to play Max. Or the monkey.

by Anonymousreply 22August 19, 2025 3:04 AM

Like you nappy pussy bitches won’t be watching this.

by Anonymousreply 23August 19, 2025 6:01 AM

It’s sad that she has to resort to work overseas now, in the foreign market.

Who knows, maybe THEY’LL give her awards.

by Anonymousreply 24August 19, 2025 6:07 AM

She’s got 10 projects lined up, two of which are television series. She must be broke.

by Anonymousreply 25August 19, 2025 6:26 AM

It's not THAT Maude, is it?

by Anonymousreply 26August 19, 2025 6:45 AM

[quote]R25 She’s got 10 projects lined up, two of which are television series. She must be broke.

It’s the talk of the town.

So embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 27August 19, 2025 7:14 AM

Given the quality and breadth of her work over decades, her lack of an Oscar is more a reflection on the Academy’s poor judgement than on her talent.

Personally, I hope she is nominated/awarded in the future, and I kind of hope that she tells them to go fuck themselves.
