The lobster's not for you- that's Gary's.

No thank you for Sunday dinner. Maybe for a quick Wednesday night dinner.

by Anonymousreply 1August 18, 2025 3:43 PM

Lucy's Sunday dinner was a bottle of scotch and a pack of Pall Malls. As is was every other night of the week.

My Mom made an equivalent of this dish sometimes. She'd add more vegetables, like larger chunks of bell peppers, cabbage, onions, and mushrooms to spread out the meat more. We kids hated it. It would later become Hamburger Helper. My New England partner's Mom made it often. They called it "American Chop Suey".

So, it's like "Ground meat and noodles" with Italian bread-mixed green salad.

by Anonymousreply 4August 18, 2025 4:13 PM

It's gross!

by Anonymousreply 5August 18, 2025 5:19 PM

Im the vomit on the table next to that bowl of crap

by Anonymousreply 6August 18, 2025 7:28 PM

I prefer more vegetables on the side if i'm going to serve pasta and meat mixed together.

by Anonymousreply 7August 18, 2025 7:58 PM

Lucy wasn't known for "warmth" or "classic goulash."

And, obviously, the OP doesn't know the meaning of either.

by Anonymousreply 8August 18, 2025 8:11 PM

I have sufficient.

by Anonymousreply 9August 18, 2025 11:19 PM

I'm Gale Gordon, arriving with his 'nephew' Brucie.

by Anonymousreply 10August 19, 2025 1:19 AM

[quote]Ball's goulash was exactly what I hoped it would be: the kind of recipe that feels like a hug in a bowl.

Tell Chef Lucy that my "hug in a bowl" is covered in her cigarette ashes!

by Anonymousreply 11August 19, 2025 1:28 AM

After reading this, I had to make American Chop Suey for dinner.

by Anonymousreply 12August 19, 2025 1:50 AM

That looks remarkably like a plastic vomit gag gift I had.

by Anonymousreply 13August 19, 2025 4:40 AM

I have that menu pinned. Lettuce salad with three choices of bottled dressing. And fruit and cheese for dessert? How boring. Obviously a cocktail and backgammon party. Eating was minimal.

by Anonymousreply 14August 19, 2025 4:58 AM

Lucille couldn’t serve a genuine hug, much less in a bowl.

by Anonymousreply 15August 19, 2025 5:11 AM

I’m Lucy’s cigarette ashes that fell into the sauce as it was being stirred. People found this Sunday's meal to have a smoky flavor.

by Anonymousreply 16August 19, 2025 5:13 AM

Oh shit I just saw r11

by Anonymousreply 17August 19, 2025 5:14 AM

I'm the reason why Beano was invented.

by Anonymousreply 18August 19, 2025 5:38 AM

I think it’s really sad that she calls this “Sunday night supper for two or twenty”…. meaning she’d serve it to company.

People don’t have to be ostentatious, but she could keep the salad, bread, fruit and cheese from her menu and spring for a better entree.

by Anonymousreply 19August 19, 2025 6:16 AM

slop

by Anonymousreply 20August 19, 2025 6:44 AM

This actually looks like something I'd enjoy eating........her whole menu.

by Anonymousreply 21August 19, 2025 7:40 AM

Same here, R21, what’s not to like?

by Anonymousreply 22August 19, 2025 9:50 AM

I'd rather have a good spaghetti

by Anonymousreply 23August 19, 2025 10:12 AM

For dessert, I would have liked some chocolate candies that had been warmed in Vivian Vances’s bra during the candy assembly line scene from “I Love Lucy.”
