William and Kate's "True Colors" on display, as neighbors told to "Move Out Immediately"
Kate Middleton and Prince William will be moving their family out of Adelaide Cottage and into Forest Lodge in Windsor. However, the Prince and Princess of Wales's relocation to their "forever home" isn't free from scandal.
According to a new report, Kate and William's new Forest Lodge neighbors have allegedly been told they can't remain in their homes, suggesting the couple's "true colors" are on display in their decision to move.
The Mail on Sunday reported that, before Kate, William, and their children move into the "300-year-old Forest Lodge," a number of neighbors will need to move. In fact, "two separate families who lived in cottages next to the country mansion were asked to vacate their properties."

Tenants were reportedly "surprised" to learn they'd be forced to leave their cottages on the grounds of Forest Lodge, which had "been rented out by the Crown Estate." A source told the outlet, "They were told to move out. I guess they were given somewhere else, but they were told they had to move."
The source continued, "They were not expecting it. Those houses are very close to the lodge, so they're not going to want any Tom, Dick, or Harry living in those houses if there are going to be royals there."
The outlet also suggested that Forest Lodge is a "considerable upgrade" from Adelaide Cottage. Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis's new home includes a "chandelier-lit ballroom, tennis court, Venetian windows, and extensive grounds," per the publication.

I would assume the cottages belong to the Royals and if so, they have the right to ask people to move, though they likely offered to relocate them, not just kick them out

They won't have been told to "move out immediately" as that would be illegal. The tenants would have had a contract with a certain notice period in it. It might be 30 days or so, but it's not like the Crown Estate is some kind of slum landlord.

What a ridiculous non-story. The tenants being kicked out are given other places to live. The 'true colors' clickbait headline is not in reference to the eviction but to Kate and William paying for the rental cost of their new home with their 'own' money, iow aren't they fabulous?
Not many people know Wills and Kate have their own money. Apparently Kate has resurrected her mom's bankrupt party pieces business and William dresses up as a clown to promote it at non-royal gatherings.

Where does it say they were given a month's notice, R13? Also, the article itself concedes, "I guess they were given somewhere to go to".

R16 Fort Belvedere is subject to a long term ground lease. The fee owner (the Crown) can’t just evict them. Other properties at Windsor have similar long term leases and many much shorter leases. The shorter the lease term the more likely there is a right to evict or shorter notice.

What a perverted headline. The “true colors” quote in the last paragraph was someone stating that William and Kate are truly good for paying for all of it themselves. [quote]You know, they have a perfectly lovely estate at Anmer Hall, part of Sandringham. I thought that was their happy place. It was a gift from the Queen.
Anmer is way up in Norfolk. This new place is near Windsor, and the children's school. It's also close to Eton where ostensibly George will be in a couple of years.
I have no problem with them getting a bigger house in WGP - Adelaide House was far too small for their family - but this merry-go-round of large estates is dizzying. They now have three large-scale homes: Anmer Hall, the KP apartment, and now Forest Lodge. Are they keeping all of these places when Charles passes, or staying put during William's reign? If the latter, what becomes of Buck Palace, Clarence House, Sandringham, the apartments at Windsor Castle and even Balmoral? Sandringham and Balmoral will be owned outright by William personally.
There aren't enough working Royals to live in all of these places. I worry about Sandringham - if W&K are comfy at Anmer, what happens to the larger estate house? No more Christmas there? I wonder if they will continue to summer up in Scotland at Balmoral, as Charles has continued to do.

r52 Charles has made many things clear to William over the years but it's always a question as to whether William will abide by his wishes, as he tends to go his own way on things. Since this is a situation that will occur after Charles's demise, and involves Camilla, it's a toss-up IMO if William will go along or do something else.
If Charles is able to secure some kind of lease or leasehold for Camilla at CH, or some kind of legally-binding promise of tenancy for her for life, then it may be moot as to what William wants or thinks.

The D/L take on Camilla is always adorable to me: always someone comparing her to a horse, always the dark musings about here post-Charles fate (a moustache-twirling William will surely tie her to the railtracks as soon as she is undefended!).
In reality, she has been a wealthy woman all her life, and has her own children, grandchildren and friends. The very worst fate possibly in store for her is that she will spend her twilight years in their company at her own dream home in Wiltshire.
However, as the Queen Dowager, I’d bet that she remains in Clarence House and retains those of her charity interests which really appeal to her. She may retreat into the background of the new reign, but she is likely to be in her eighties anyway and (at the very least) has her own divorce cash settlement to fall back on. That has probably been invested rather wisely, untouched over the past 2 decades.

I could see Clarence House being used by an elderly Edward and Sophie, once Camilla dies. They will probably be full time working royals until they are quite old, given how young the Wales children are and how long W&C want them to stay unencumbered by duties.
I don't believe Buck Palace will be used to house family members in the future. There are sets of "apartments" or rooms there, used by Andrew, Anne, etc when they are in London on royal business, but I think that will be phased out in the future. BP will become strictly a "showpiece" palace, tourist attraction and used for garden parties, functions and State Dinners. They may put offices for staff there.

The Wales kids seem to have a warm relationship with Camilla and she seemed engaged and protective over them at the Queen's funeral. I recall a video a few years ago of the kids (Charlotte especially ) waving goodbye and exchanging pet nicknames with Camilla and Charles as they boarded a private helicopter after visiting them.
Charles also seems engaged and playful with Camilla's grandchildren.
Louis wanting to be with Grandpa Charles at public events also speaks to a familiar relationship. I doubt they are cold fish to the grandchildren.
I forgot where I was going with this....
Anyway, I'm sure they are better with the grandkids than they were with their own kids, which happens a lot. Adult children end up appreciating parents/stepparents who are good to their kids even if they didn't have a great relationship themselves.

Personally, I think it's a mistake for William (and Charles if he lives past the completion of the renovations) not to live in Buckingham Palace after he becomes King. The repairs to BP are being paid for in part by taxpayers which include the royal apartments. Because of that, it should continue to be the primary residence of the monarch while in London.

It's right in the heart of tourist London - it kind of makes sense to open up the palace & the gardens for tourism since no one could live there & the costs to make the building secure & tech friendly for offices must be enormous. I recall from a previous thread, someone indicated that the BRF would likely never to do it, but it seems to make sense.

Buckingham Palace is open to the public for part of the year. A good chunk of the royal art collection is on display there. In the past Charles suggested it should become basically an art gallery, while using the state rooms for formal events. In practice, that is how it works anyway, but there are probably security issues in operating like that all year round as a dual purpose venue , so the two roles alternate.

Once you get past the state rooms and the Art galleries Buckingham Palace is essentially apartments. Anne stays there at times, Sophie and Edward have too. I expect William and Catherine will stay there once in a while when there are big doings, or state occasions in London. Their new "forever home" is at Windsor. When I travelled from London to Slough to see Windsor Castle it took us about 40 minutes by train. I'm betting Buckingham Palace will still be used as a residence but not often. Right now Charles and Camilla are perfectly happy at Clarence House. I read that he is now at Balmoral for the summer recess. Or whatever it's called. The UK is full of rats and mice! Verin. When we toured the Cotswolds a few years ago, we saw all these lovely cottages with the quaint thatched roofs, and our guide told us in the Fall, the mice head for the roofs where they make their nests for the winter months. They reproduce pretty rapidly. The other thing I learned is that every time a rat or a mouse runs, they pee.
