Europeans

What do they all think of each other? I can't imagine it. Is it really like our states? They give each other shit sometimes but feel in it together?

They were at war in the last century and now it's all peace? They are so mysterious.

by Anonymousreply 17August 19, 2025 12:12 PM

Truth is, we just don't think about each other all that often, even those of us in the EU. What matters most is performing better than your immediate neighbour, economically speaking. Oh, and the grass is always the greenest in Switzerland, if you ask every single one of our politicians and probably most of the population as well. So there's lots of stereotyping and poor understanding of other countries' actual economies going on. Like, yes, the Swiss wages are insane, but so are their prices. This is something the average Joe here just doesn't seem to understand.

Having said that, external shocks like Trump do tend to bring us closer together and strengthen our European identity. We also feel closer to Canadians now than ever before.

Two World Wars started there. Perhaps nobody perfected ethnic hatred more fully in the 20th century.

Which makes it even funnier when White Americans want to take pride in some sort of 'pan white' identity, not knowing how much the various parts and pieces of themselves may actually hate one another.

by Anonymousreply 2August 18, 2025 3:31 AM

Well that's because you're not like South Africa R28

Ukraine and Russia seem amazingly stupid for fighting. They're the same fucking people practically.

by Anonymousreply 3August 18, 2025 11:07 PM

R3, are they more like Namibia?

by Anonymousreply 4August 18, 2025 11:30 PM

[quote]They're the same fucking people practically.

First of all, completely false, both ethnically and culturally speaking.

Secondly, you could say the same thing about all white people. We're all practically the same fucking people, so why have our own countries and squabble constantly? No offence, but you sound like you were home schooled.

R5 Fine. Kill each other. I don't give a fuck.

When I lived and worked in Europe, they didn't give a crap about each other but were fascinated that I (not American) had worked and studied in the USA for two decades, only because hey always wanted to know what Americans say about their various countries/people. They would then looked so downcast when I told them the truth; Americans generally never discuss Belgians/Belgium, Greeks, Austria, etc. Maybe we gays might occasionally say something along the lines of, "*sigh* Curly-haired Italian men do it for me" or "Every Dutch guy I've fucked has a small dick." But that's about it.

Finally, some swarthy little co-worker from Malta wanted to know what Americans think of Malta and instead of honestly informing her that I'd never once heard the word Malta uttered in the 21 years I resided in the USA, i said, "Oh, they think you're all dreadful. Very smelly and small-minded." She looked so pleased. That's when I was reminded of that old saw, the gist of which is "the only worse thing than people saying bad things about you is people saying nothing at all about you."

I have crushing envy that Europeans can go to any one of a dozen countries in 3 hours or less.

by Anonymousreply 8August 19, 2025 5:22 AM

We hate the British.

by Anonymousreply 9August 19, 2025 5:31 AM

I had a Dutch friend and asked her this question a long time ago. She married an American and didn't have much to say about us but she did tell me everyone likes Italians because they're chill and cool...and Germans were loud and obnoxious!

by Anonymousreply 10August 19, 2025 6:36 AM

dutch guys with small dicks?

by Anonymousreply 11August 19, 2025 6:49 AM

That's what I thought too R11! It's obvious that R7 has never had sex with a Dutch man because they're all hung. I know this from living in the Netherlands for 4 years.

Shitposting Lite

1. Mock-naïve tone. Posing very basic or obvious questions. “Europeans, do you even like each other??” as if wide-eyed and innocent.

2. Pseudo-erudition. Dropping in a half-smart observation. “They were at war in the last century and now it’s all peace?” That sounds informed but isn’t actually deep.

3. Low-brow phrasing. Informal, slightly clumsy, so it feels like barroom banter instead of serious commentary.

4.Provocation bait. It’s designed not to get an answer, but to spark people jumping in. “Actually, I’m German and let me tell you…” / “No, you don’t understand history…".

Performative ignorance that pushes others to explain or argue. A lot of posters know perfectly well what the answer is, but they act as if they don’t.

“Just asking questions”, because the replies are the entertainment.

It’s close to the Socratic troll style: pretending to seek wisdom while really stirring the pot.

Nicely summarized R13. These are the exact techniques the anti-trans trolls use on DL and they all look totally wide eyed and innocent while they're doing it.

[quote]I have crushing envy that Europeans can go to any one of a dozen countries in 3 hours or less

Mais le monde entier envie les États-Unis pour avoir tous ces états profondément fascinants.

by Anonymousreply 15August 19, 2025 11:10 AM

Obviously, they don't R15.

by Anonymousreply 16August 19, 2025 11:45 AM

Oh they do, R16, they love nothing more than to find a folksy American couple to explain --sparing no detsil-- all the tiniest nuances of "back home."
