Hulu to be eliminated as Disney plans major streaming change
Viewers will likely be deleting a popular streaming app from their homepage as Disney plans to fully integrate it with Disney+.
Walt Disney Co. announced during a conference call on Aug. 6 that it plans to combine Hulu with Disney+ “to create a unified app experience.”

It's time to merge all the streaming apps together and call it "cable."

I’m r1 but I actually think this is smart. Disney is such a powerful recognizable brand. Hulu and it’s color scheme always gives me 2009 vibes. I don’t know.

Lots of Hulu shows just don't seem right for "Disney."

This really sucks. I was one of the first subscribers to Hulu - back when OLTL premiered on the new streaming service. I pay a very low rate- grandfathers in.

I love Hulu, but have never had any desire to add Disney+.

R6 It’s branding did. This is not debatable, it is fact. All HBO streaming apps were rebranded from HBO Max to just Max for about 2 years and now it’s HBO Max again.
If your talking about some demand streaming app for suckers who is still have cable that’s not what I am talking about.

R4 Hulu launched publicly in 2008. The “green scheme” is pretty much the same now.
I signed up for Hulu when it was launched. Hulu had free content at that time, including The Mary Tyler Moore Show and several Britcoms that hadn’t made it to US TV screens via PBS.
I didn’t have an iPhone yet, so I steamed on the Hulu website.
By the time Hulu became a pay site, they had built up enough content to make it worth a paid subscription for me.

I have zero interest in Disney content but happily subscribe to Hulu. I don’t want to wade through a ton of Disney content to find my shows, and I sure as fuck don’t want to pay more for the “privilege” of doing so.

Now you won’t have a choice. And you’ll enjoy the privilege of paying double every month!

They want it to be one app with Disney+ combined with Hulu, BUT
[quote] A new “unified” Disney+ and Hulu streaming app will be available in 2026, the company said.
[quote] According to a Disney rep, customers will still be able to buy a stand-alone Hulu subscription (as well as a stand-alone Disney+ plan).
So how will that work? You an access both services through a unified app, but if you only want to pay for the Hulu part, you're blocked out of Disney+ part of the app? It's not completely clear. But it starts in 2026.
