I was between semesters in college, working that night at a men’s clothing store when I heard the news about Elvis. Ten years to the date later, Northwest Flight 255 crashed soon after takeoff from Detroit Metropolitan Airport killing all aboard with the exception of a 2.5 year old girl.
I posted recently about seeing a much slimmer than expected Aretha, along with an entourage, at a suburban Detroit upscale deli around the turn of the century. On the day of her funeral, my office, hosting a lunch in her honor, ordered in pizza. To best commemorate Aretha’s life, I suggested stiffing the vendor.
