I tried to watch it & couldn't get far: first, she takes a ridiculous amount of luggage and of course has someone schlep it for her, then it's just her endlessly mugging for camera (cellphone camera?) while eating tacos. I think there is an interesting show about traveling solo, but being a largely "invisible" person, but she's just annoying.

I write this as someone who does a lot of solo stuff and yet I often feel needlessly apologetic about it.

I do too; I'll even lie about going on a trip with a friend or a tour group just to head off "traveling by yourself to X....that's just sad" even though I honestly prefer to travel by myself. Traveling by yourself in Europe is fine - in fact a lot of people travel alone and gravitate towards other people if for no other reason than just to have lunch with or share a tax. It does seem so very radical, and there are a million travel articles of every facet of how to do it if one somehow needed instructions.

I know this probably never occurred to you gentlemen, but it is different if you're a woman traveling alone.

I've traveled alone, eaten out alone, etc. since 2008, because I've been single since then (and not looking!!). And I've found that I enjoy my own company better than anyone else's. Its no muss, no fuss when you do things alone.

But I'm sure Miss Tracee never has to worry about much of anything when she travels, really. Wealth is a great insulator.

Reality is - there aren't a lot of travel shows that are hosted by black people.

And there are probably a lot of professional black women who may not be partnered but want to go and explore. A lot of non-black women as well.

I've never felt uncomfortable traveling solo - but I'm a man. I think one good tip for a solo traveler is to eat at the bar. It's a much more lively place and it doesn't feel like you're under the spotlight of a Table for 1 in the middle of a crowded restaurant. Plus you can meet people at the bar.

I saw the trailer. It's not really 'solo' traveling'. In some of the scenes, it seems she got a cameraman and probably also a director with her. She should have use a handheld camera at all times to make it more real and organic.

That would be hard to watch.

Apologies R7, I did something that I try to never do - not think of how it is for women.

I still have female friends who travel solo but we (they and me) are, FWIW, not American. I'm not sure how much that influences peoples' experiences.

And also FWIW for the respondents upthread - I'm not American, but I'm also not "European" - there is a whole world outside of USA and the 49 countries in Europe. I have been travelling solo since I was straight out of high school - I still do trips with friends but I also have absolutely no issues with going it alone. If someone thinks that that is pathetic then they don't want to know what I think of them.
