Happy Birthday - Madonna
Madonna Louise Ciccone, born 16 August 1958. She's 67 today.
Forbes estimated Madonna's net worth at $850 million as of 2025, making her one of the wealthiest musicians in the world.
According to Rodrigo Fresán, "saying that Madonna is just a pop star is as inappropriate as saying that Coca-Cola is just a soda. Madonna is one of the classic symbols of Made in USA." Rolling Stone Spain wrote, "She became the first master of viral pop in history, years before the internet was massively used. Madonna was everywhere; in the almighty music television channels, 'radio formulas', magazine covers and even in bookstores. A pop dialectic, never seen since the Beatles's reign, which allowed her to keep on the edge of trend and commerciality."

I had that she’s 67, because that means I’m getting older too.

She's back in Italy for the Palio di Siena. Then she'll be joined by family and friends Sting and Debi Mazar, among others, for birthday festivities.

I thought she’d go the Marlene Dietrich path in her later years but it seems like she’s going the Mae West route. Without the wit. Not in a good way.
In her heyday, an incredibly beautiful woman.

She had a hot career, but it couldn't last forever. She stopped being an interesting artist after 2005 and has been declining mentally since her divorce from Guy Ritchie. With all that being said, she still has the best music catalog of all female pop stars, and I will always appreciate her for groundbreaking music videos and concert tours. Also, her gay activism and contribution to AIDS related causes. Happy belated birthday, Madge. You're getting up there!

I am curious to know what her new album will sound like given that she’s going for COAD part two. If anyone can give her a comeback album, at least to fans, it’s Stuart Price. But I expect a lot of vocoder shit to try and cover up the old lady tones.

Ar 67 do you think she can finally retire wearing grills? Or does she think they *still* make her look edgy?

She’s not growing old with grace, but she remains a legend. In terms of pop artists with actual cultural impact and an actual long run Top 10 singles, few women have ever been on Madonna’s level.
I loved the “ FlopDNA!” threads in here though, back in 2012 when her worst-ever album bounced down and off the Top 200 in short order.

She's been pretty quiet in the last year or so. She was having such a miserable time with aging, and kept acting out for years and years beforehand.
It's hardest to age when your brand depends on your being sexy.

Makes me think of the comment in "Truth or Dare" about her being in a race against time.
The level of celebrity she achieved just isn't healthy for anyone. Prince also went batshit crazy from it. But they accomplished more than most people in their profession and on their own terms.

I think the near death (OD?} and successful tour helped level things out.
MJs would be last tour was the nail in his coffin, so she's got that at least

[quote]She had a hot career, but it couldn't last forever. She stopped being an interesting artist after 2005
Once she went to England, did the Reinvention tour and that desperate stunt of kissing Britney, it was a wrap. Most pop artists have a good 10-15 years. Fans I knew lost interest starting with the Drowned World Tour. Bedtime Stories is her last true great pop album. Ray of Light is overrated and Music has its moments. Confessions was ok.
[quote]In terms of pop artists with actual cultural impact and an actual long run Top 10 singles, few women have ever been on Madonna’s level.
What cultural impact though? She was a groundbreaking artist, but did she really change music the way Aretha, Joni, Streisand even Whitney did?

The Guy Ritchie thing is still bizarre to me. He’s not hot , interesting or even a great filmmaker. If she really wanted to be with a British guy she could have done better.
