sleeping with dogs

A study conducted in 2018 by Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, found that women who sleep alongside their dogs tend to experience better sleep quality than those who share a bed with a human partner. Surveying 962 adult women across the United States, the research highlighted that dogs were less likely to interrupt sleep and often provided a greater sense of safety and comfort.

Dogs generally maintain consistent sleep patterns and are less likely to snore or move around unpredictably during the night. Many women also reported feeling more secure with a dog in bed, which may reduce anxiety and contribute to more restful sleep. In comparison, human partners were more frequently cited as sources of disturbance due to movement, noise and inconsistent sleep habits.

The study suggests that for women who value uninterrupted sleep and nighttime reassurance, sharing the bed with a dog may be more beneficial than sleeping next to a human companion.

I wonder if it's a coincidence that Canisius College is also a Catholic University.

My shih tzu trained me to sleep in a sort of crescent formation so she could comfotrably occupy the center of the bed. I slept very well that way.

I’ve slept with dogs in my bed since I was a toddler. Coming up on six decades with no regrets.

I believe this - I guess I have to wonder what 'alongside' means. Our dogs slept at the foot of our bed and were generally just out - except for some dreams where they would start vocalizing in their sleep.

Better than cats who will fucking sit on your face, run around the room, and wake you up to get food.

What is the effect with men?

Dollface thread.

Not my experience at all. Most dogs I've had seem to think leaping up post midnight to gnaw at its backside is acceptable.

It’s even better if she brings along a jar of peanut butter.

We had to get two beds. Two men and three 75+ dogs do not fit well into a king sized bed. But it was always so snuggy and nice to have everyone in bed on those cold, snow mornings

What about donkey which is friend?

by Anonymousreply 10August 17, 2025 12:54 AM

^^ You take Eric to bed!?

Dogs have been protectors of humans for thousands of years. I know when I’ve slept with dogs - even though I’m decidedly a “cat person” - there is a sense of comfort that is perhaps in part derived from that long relationship. 🤷🏻

Dogs snore and have really bad gas.

My dog used to sleep curled up behind my legs. She would wait until I got comfortable, then I would say, “ok, I’m done”.

She would jump up in the bed and situate herself behind my knees.

R13 has never slept with a man.

by Anonymousreply 15August 17, 2025 1:37 AM

Ive had dogs. Ive had cats. No animal has ever slept in my bed. Or even gotten on it hopefully. I always kept my bedroom door closed . they had the run of the house just not that room.

Cats try to lay across your face or steal your breath.

by Anonymousreply 17August 17, 2025 3:00 AM

r17, I've never experienced this myself but I do have a cat who bites my head if I insist on sleeping in too late.

by Anonymousreply 18August 17, 2025 3:04 AM

I couldn't sleep without an animal on my bed. Not counting my handsome husband.

by Anonymousreply 19August 17, 2025 6:32 AM

This does make sense. I hate sharing a bed with anyone even when I love them.

by Anonymousreply 20August 17, 2025 6:35 AM

Try two guys, a dog, two cats in a queen bed.

Warm in the winter.
