I agree. I was thinking of doing RFC as the cover boy. I guess the jinx wasn't needed though.

Why finals on Monday?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 17, 2025 12:28 AM |
It's been a walk in the park for Sinner and only a few stones in Alcaraz's path on their way to the Cincy finals. Betting on a threepeat of these two in another Slam final this year. Are there any real contenders to turn the Big Two into the Big Three or Big Four? If anything, it looks like they've solidified their reign at the top.

Il Gingio is very boring to watch.

These two-week 1000s feel endless.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 17, 2025 3:54 PM |
Not sure why exactly but I love Il Gingio. Maybe it’s because I prefer his coolness and calmness to the chest thumping and demanding of applause from the crowd. That hand to the ear saying “how great am I?” just bugs me.

It's amusing how quickly the US cameras cut away from Swiatek when she changes her kit on court, as if a sports bra is provocative. And the commentators tsk-tsk about her not going into the locker room but laugh and joke when ATP players are whistled at or catcalled as they change shirts.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 17, 2025 7:22 PM |

I also like Il Gingio, though I don't think he's hawt in the least. I like it that's he's cool and quiet and just goes about the business of playing great tennis. He is well spoken and gracious in interviews.

PaoPao vs. Svee final.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 17, 2025 9:30 PM |
Here's something, you know how all the mens players seem friendly off-court and often say it can be a little different when they have to face each other?
You almost never here that from the womens.

Is Roddick still contributing to the Tennis Channel wrap-ups or is that only during Slams?
I like all four of the singles finalists but would like to see Alcaraz and underdog Paolini prevail.

Why is the men’s final in the afternoon while the women’s final is in the evening? Surely the number 1 and 2 men’s players in the world would generate higher ratings.

Sinner just lost a lot more than the final—his goodwill is shot to shit for a very long time…
by Anonymous | reply 63 | August 18, 2025 7:44 PM |
So he was sick apparently.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | August 18, 2025 7:46 PM |
Hmm the US Open Fan Week Mixed Doubles event already starts tomorrow. Sinner is supposed to partner up with Siniakova but I don't see that happening.

[quote]Why is the men’s final in the afternoon while the women’s final is in the evening? Surely the number 1 and 2 men’s players in the world would generate higher ratings.
I think it was intended to give the men a bit more recovery time heading into the US Open. It would've also been better for ratings in Europe. The scheduling in Cincy and Canada was already terrible without the mixed doubles stunt in Queens. As unrealistic as it is for Sinner now that he's ill, it's nuttier for Swiatek even if she remains healthy.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | August 18, 2025 8:27 PM |
Yes Il Gingio deserves to lose all of his goodwill for being sick. We all have control over being sick.
Cue the “clearly he was faking because he was losing ” trolls. Also cue the “maybe be got a bad dose of ‘roids” hilarity.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | August 18, 2025 8:37 PM |
He had an out; he took it. The end.

Sinner was obviously too excited about getting to the US Open Mixed Doubles in time.

by Anonymous | reply 75 | August 18, 2025 10:26 PM |
Darwin has long been pegged a future star. But his limited tour experience has included wild cards into matches he was not ready for.
Glad to hear he has re-emerged and notched a win. I believe he got a USO wild card.

Iga's tactics irk me. The constant throwing ball up and down - faking serve. The wiping , the nose blowing
by Anonymous | reply 87 | August 18, 2025 11:50 PM |
Can iga serve the fucking ball on first try?? Why is this being allowed?? It's constant, once or 2x i get that fine, but each single time???
by Anonymous | reply 88 | August 18, 2025 11:54 PM |
I think a caught ball toss should be a fault.

Paolini outperformed expectations in the final and shouldn't be too hard on herself about the loss. She could have a nice run in New York.

2024 Cincinnati Open final - Sabalenka

by Anonymous | reply 95 | August 19, 2025 12:06 AM |
Iga is fine and just a different personality. She expects superb tennis from herself, its a non-negotiable. I loved in her acceptance speech that she basically said the womens's lockeroom is normally a pit of angry women, but that Jasmine is always the smiling optimistic self that you see on the regular.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | August 19, 2025 12:30 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 99 | August 19, 2025 1:17 AM |
Bad news —Terence Atmane, the great surprise of the ATP Cincinnati 2025 tournament, has withdrawn from the qualifying rounds of the US Open 2025. The Frenchman cited fatigue and tiredness as the main reasons for his withdrawal, as when the cut was made for the fourth Grand Slam of the year, he would have had to play the qualifying matches to be in the main draw.

Just watching the men's final now. Sinner is definitely sick. His shirt is drenched with sweat after the 4th game. He has a fever. He never sweats like that normally in a match, certainly not through the first set.

First round of quallies under way. Most of the seeded players - like Cazaux, Struff, and De Jong - breezed through.
Unfortunately, one exception was uber-ripped eye-candy, Andrea Pellegrino.
Our Joao plays later today - a tough draw against Belgian 11th seed, Alexander Blockx.
