Jesus, read the comments. Dozens of people report the same thing happening, different airlines, but getting passed on to a new “representative”.

I will NEVER fly United Airlines.

DON'T FLY UNITED!!

Who would pay $17,000 for a flight?

It's terrible. I'm sorry but when I hear a heavily accented voice I am not giving them my credit card.

It's almost like you have to record and document your phone calls now by speaker, so you can upload it for internet justice. Companies will move really fast to avoid internet justice.

R5 do people not realize that credit cards have protection? If a charge is fraudulent, you can get your money back. It’s not rocket science.

sounds like the UAL agent was working with a bad actor in this scenario. A thousand years ago, I worked in the revenue accounting dept. of a US airline. This was back in the days when people used cash to purchase 'walk up' tickets at the airport. Busted some devious agents who charged the ticketed pax the highest fare- but actually ticketed the pax- the lowest fare, thus pocketing the cash difference. I would make a terrible crook, I can never be that creative to think of things like that.

R6, that's true, but you have to jump through plenty of hoops in order to do it. And the company can dispute it. It's not like the credit card company just instantly restores your stolen money if you file a claim. The whole process can be a major PITA.

Thank you for patiently waiting.

I had a similar scam for an HP printer. The person said he was going to refund the defective printer and someone was going to collect the old printer. Red flags were popping up. Suddenly he was asking for my banking information so that the refund could go directly into my account, at which point I realized I was talking to a crook. In the meantime, they had taken control of my computer. I was able to shut down some of the Spyware they had inserted, but I ended up taking it to the geek squad to eliminate the last of their claws into my system. There are a lot of devious people out there.
