I definitely would not transport it on a plane from the US. People forget that it is actually illegal in the US as well. Some states have made it "legal", but the Supremacy Clause of the US Constitution states that federal laws are the supreme law of the land. The DEA has simply opted not to enforce it.

THC is legal in Germany so you can buy it there. Transporting it in small quantities via train, car or bus to Romania would pose very little risk. They don't have security checks like they do at airports and since both Germany and Romania (and the countries in between) are all part of the Schengen Zone, there is no passport control or customs check.

If you are going to be in Germany for a few days, you could attempt to get a prescription for THC. The prescription would be valid in Romania as they will honor a prescription written by an EU physician (not a US physician). That said, if you will be traveling by land between Germany and Romania, it is highly unlikely that you would be stopped/searched anyway. However, you could be in major trouble if you were somehow caught. I have traveled extensively in Romania several times and traveled between Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary by rental car. There are no longer any border formalities. It's like driving from Georgia to Florida to Alabama.

If you have square shaped thc gummies I have found a bag of gummy starbursts candy are the same size/shape going through any machines. I have tucked 4 or 5 10mgs in and sealed it up without issue. Do not try to bring more than 5 they can start to smell a little. If you do thc mints try and find a tin of mints that matches the shape of the mints and mix them together. Again don't go overboard. I have done this to Spain, Mexico & UK. Once I land I put them on my person in case of a secondary bag check.

OP here. You have all scared me straight. I went and got a CBD tincture - not as effective, but it will have to do, and as far as I can tell, fully legal. We are only starting in Romania (and just connecting in Munich, not spending time there).. Spending a few upfront days there and then doing a cruise on the lower Danube, passing through Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, and finishing in Budapest. While I would like to think this was going to be some Kristen Bjorn- style fantasy, I am an elder gay (nearly 55) and will still be among the youngest on the cruise. Hopefully I will still manage to sleep. May take a few zzzquill along too. Probably for the best to try to get off the thc for a few weeks.

Going through Serbia could be an issue, too. It is not EU or Schengen Zone which means you will have to clear customs/border control going into and out of Serbia. Hungary has a zero tolerance policy for THC containing products. You will see so called head shops in Budapest, but they only sell CBD and kratom. I thought it was odd that they were OK with kratom and not THC. Cannabis is illegal in Bulgaria and Serbia even for medical use. Perhaps you can get your doctor to prescribe zolpidem (Ambien) or another hypnotic to have with you in case you really can't sleep.
