Tristan Rogers (“Robert Scorpio”) is DEAD to Me

#SAD about Tristan.

He added a suave, sophisticated level of excitement to GH when he joined in 1981.

I remember him from GH when he was young and cute.

I remember rumors in the 80s that he was offered many chances to join "DYNASTY' but he didn't want to leave daytime TV. I bet Aaron Spelling knew the value of his huge daytime fan base and wanted to carry them over to prime time and keep DYNASTY on top.

I believe he was the voice of Outback Steakhouse commercials for some years.

On another note, when I saw Rogers was 79 I decided to see how old Tony Geary is, thinking he must be at least 80. He’s not, he’s 78.

But I was surprised to see Geary finally came out. Apparently he married his longtime partner Claudio Gama in 2019.

I know there’s always been speculation about Geary’s sexuality, but was his coming out common knowledge? I never saw anything about it.

Anyway, sad news about Rogers, but belated good for Geary.

I'd have never recognized him. He didn't age well.

R9 No, he never announced it anywhere. It just started showing up in costar's Instagram posts, etc.

Geary did mention that he was gay in a recent All In The Family book, where they interviewed him about the episode he was in. But that did not get worldwide publicity.

It’s like all of the soap stars of the era died all at once.

Most non-smokers diagnosed with lung cancer are women.

The grim reaper has certainly had a field day with GH stars and alum in the past two years.

I’m glad they were able to give him that nice send off scene with Sasha last month. He looked quite frail.

I just read about his condition a few weeks ago. He must have been at the hospice stage if his rep was issuing a press release about his health. RIP and condolences to his family and a soon-to-be bygone era.

At this point GH should just have a plane crash with all the legacy characters that way they can just do one big funeral week. Has Monica died on screen yet?

Sorry to hear this.

I remember watching GH waaaaaay back in the 80s and I was always surprised about the women who swooned over him. He had (to me) a very smarmy look to him and the accent did not endear him to him as it did others.

However, he did a great job with his roles and cancer does suck.

I wish people would stop this bullshit of noting whether lung cancer patients ever smoked. I don't care. Lung cancer is a horrific disease, and I feel terrible for anyone who gets it, regardless of whether they ever smoked.

Many people smoke to cope with mental illness or other forms of sorrow in life. I don't blame them if they can't leap over that quit hurdle. I managed to quit 30 years ago, thank God, but it was very hard.

I'm anxiously awaiting the results of a re-scan of multiple nodules in my lungs, and if it turns out they are malignant, I won't blame myself. And if anyone else suggests that I brought lung cancer on by my long-ago smoking, I will tell them to go die in a fucking grease fire, per my DL training in unrepentant bitchiness.

I think that was Paul Hogan. But Tristan and Rick Springfield and Olivia Newton-John (who predates all of their "intros" to the U.S.) were definitely contributing factors.

I loved the Scorpio-Jones family dynamic, mid-aughts, when Robert showed up again (after Mac put in all the really hard work, to raise Robert's & Frisco's daughters). I love this gathering at Kelly's diner beyond measure. Still makes me smile & laugh. They were all great in this scene.

His character was assumed to be dead for quite a long time.

His toughest acting challenge was not falling down on the floor in laughter as a groomsman at Liza Minnelli’s wedding to David Gest.

He's been more visible since he retired. Even before he got married, he was publicly on social media with his husband. There's also a semi-recent book that's an oral history of All In The Family, and when they get to covering the episode he was on "Books by Covers," he gave a comment about how it was being a gay actor in that story. I think that was the first time he addressed it directly.

Geary is kinda like Richard Simmons - did either of them HAVE to come out? Everyone knew. No need to “come out”. They were never in.

VOTN, I mentioned that back at R11. I do agree, I'm pretty sure that's the first time Geary himself mentioned it in any kind of interview.

There was an academic book some years ago that said Geary was gay, but there was never any press/newspaper articles that said so, and the only "press" I've ever seen is the social media mentions/photos of Geary and his partner.
